I think society is already starting to come to grips with some of these problems. And maybe we can do our bit as individuals too. We've already turned smokers into pariahs and second class citizens. And begun seizing large sums of their money for more appropriate purposes. But for example - see a fat person at the grocery store buying a rich desert, shame him or her in a loud voice. Be sure everyone realizes what unfit and objectionable human beings they really are. Or have a neighbor who is not attending church regularly, hand out flyers noting their transgressions, etc..
This whole area of activism to get people to do the 'right' thing is rich with possibility. These are indeed exciting and progressive times we live in.

Indeed, there is nothing that makes me feel more complete as a human being than the idea of calling out overweight individuals for their crimes against the species. These people need to be put in a camp or something, perhaps a camp where they can concentrate on their misdeeds. Maybe throw in some forced labor so they can slim down while reflecting on the reasons for their rotundity.
It would be great if this world had less people dictating to others how to live their lives. Fitness nazis are bad enough in person, nobody wants them online too.

Public shaming?! Now you're crossing the line mate. And keep in mind many "fat" people wished they could stop but got into a vicious circle and publicly shaming them won't help if anything they'll feel even worse about themselves and want to eat even more. (because yeah many eat a lot because eating is there little "comforting" thing)
Fere libenter homines id quod volunt credunt. Among those who dislike oppression are many who like to oppress.
Nothing wrong with giving people knowledge. The truth is that obesity, and in fact the diet of regular Americans, is tied to all sorts of health implications, e.g. diabetes.
Actually the real problem is that the food industry in America is completely fucked, with some very rich and powerful people making sure it remains that way. To begin on a journey of discovery, ask yourself how it is possible that a hamburger costs less than a bunch of carrots?
If you'd like not to know... just move along, ignorance is bliss and all that.

And? There are a great many of us that live here who do not take part in the fast food industry, yet still qualify as "obese." There have been various percentages of any population who have been large for thousands of years, yet only in this past few decades have they come under attack and been so widely persecuted. For many it just boils down to genetics, there is nothing that can be done past a certain point.
It might seem like a harmless offering of knowledge, but in the end, it just gives fitness nazis another outlet to demonize those who aren't of adonis blood. Look at the title of this thread for example: tell me that doesn't have a ring of hatred to it.
The fact is that there are multitudes of studies put out on this very same topic year after year, it is impossible to not be aware of the unhealthiness of fast food anymore. When all is said and done, those who aren't interested in the system simply won't take part in it, and those who are will persist.

You're still fat.
You might not be obese but you are still overweight and are opening yourself up to all sorts of medical problems - they might not immediate medical problems that come from being obese but being fat will shorten your life expectancy and cause other injuries that wouldn't normally occur to a person of heathly weight.
What group of people fall into the obese weight category that are actually a healthy weight?

Here's a hint: that isn't news to anyone who is overweight, we don't care. You will never find anyone on this planet who will be legitimately surprised when you tell them that their weight is going to cause them medical problems. If it helps to understand, it is similar to telling a smoker that cigarettes are bad for their health, they don't care either.
All it amounts to is just another outlet for the same type of person who would like to be racist, but they know they can't because society will ostracize them. So instead, they go with the tried and true, media sanctioned anti-fat people stance, so they can feel better about themselves while putting someone else in their place.
Edit: and if the next question is "how is hatred of overweight people similar to racism?" then that is simple. Humans want to feel superior about something, it is just the nature of the mind, but when they know they have nothing, they reach for the most easily accessible thing: racism. Example: go to any Youtube-type video hosting site and look in the comments, at the sheer number of baseless racist posts. The kids who infest these comment boards have no sense of identity, no accomplishments, nothing to make them feel superior to the people that they are carrying out flame wars with, so what do they do? They go for the most easily accessible thing they can think of. In funcitoning society, people can't be racist for no good reason, so they go with the next big thing that the TV tells them is alright to do: hatred of fat people.

What group of people fall into the obese weight category that are actually a healthy weight?
Using a traditional definition weightlifters, football players and other heavily muscled people are considered obese. If you were 20% above the ideal weight for height then you were obese. Emmitt Smith, the running back for the Dallas Cowboys playing at a weight of 190 pounds at a purported 5' 10" height (more like 5' 8") was borderline obese by some height to weight charts.
In the last few years the insurance agencies and medical professions have finally caught up with reality and have started using Body Mass Indexes to indicate obesity. But currently they can't agree on which specific BMI will be the standard that they all will use.
On a personal note, I'm 5'10" and weigh 195. I have a 36-38" waist and 43" chest and am considered obese by most body mass indexes too but I sure as hell don't look like Emmitt does either.

Did you read the post that I quoted and did you keep the "genetics" part in context when you posted the comment above? Are you suggesting that people with excessive muscle are that way because of unavoidable genetics?
Are you further suggesting that a heavily muscled person will be treated as obese by his family doctor? Or that he couldn't get his doctor to confirm in writing for his insurance that his BMI is different due to his bulk and not fat? Oh, say, something like a calculation of his body fat percentage... which is automatically done before a person is deemed obese...
I'm not fat, I'm big boned! My fat genes only kick in when I eat fast food! The TV says fast food is yummy, more yummier than fruits and veggies!
Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

Yes, genetics can dictate musculature as much as it can dictate body fat. Anyone familiar with basic Mendelian Inheritance and how the DNA of various races are affected by their native ecosystem would comprehend that.

A race of people is too varied to select one attribute and affirm that all of them have that same attribute.

Geographical location has a significant impact on genetics, it is common knowledge and widely accepted in biological anthropology. Not believing in it doesn't make it less true.
You are already in blatant violation of the rules, this post and the last one more than qualified as hate-related. Again, you have to ask yourself, why do you feel it is necessary to address people as if they are of a lower class simply because you do not agree with their lifestyle choice? Do you subjugate homosexuals who adopt a flamboyant lifestyle choice, because you believe they would be more respectable if they acted "normal"? Group preparedness has absolutely nothing to do with it, this isn't a god damn tribal warfare system we live in. You are just looking for reasons to excuse your bigotry, transparent ones at that.
I hope you catch a bullet in the skull one of these days, I honestly do.
Edit: sure I don't have to mention this, but the prime goal of The Holocaust was a unified drive toward making a better species. Medical experimentation to try to morphologically alter the ones that weren't muscular, blonde and blue eyed, genocide to get rid of the rest that were deemed unsalvageable. Interesting company you keep.

They go for the most easily accessible thing they can think of. A race of people is too varied to select one attribute and affirm that all of them have that same attribute.
If all fat people had an unavoidable medical condition that made them fat then it would be the same as racism, but as it is, you are fat because you are not doing enough of one thing and too much of another and you don't care enough to do anything about it. Being fat is a lifestyle not a race and because of it your lifestyle of fat is open to ridicule .

Do you subjugate homosexuals who adopt a flamboyant lifestyle choice, because you believe they would be more respectable if they acted "normal"?

How much more likely is it that someone would set the building on fire in the first place because a hate mongering bigot is taking shelter inside? Yet again, you are justifying the persecution of a subset of individuals that have existed for thousands of years because you think society as a whole would be better off if they didn't exist. And? Well, we are seeing an uprecedented global epidemic of obesity with lives being lost (see OP) and costs of obesity-attributable medical expenses of $75 billion per year.
I know you don't care that *you* are obese but do you care that so many people are unecessarily obese? Is it a condition that you would wish on others?
The knowledge I was sharing is more about part of the "blame" being on the food industry and the way it is regulated and hoping people will recognise the scale at which manipulation is taking place. I have no interest in arming fitness nazis**.
There are other points for not being overweight. I was seeing this woman for awhile. She was the nicest person you would ever want to meet. She would cook for me, clean my house, bring me medicine and chicken soup when I was sick and so many other things. I told her I just wanted to be friends from the very beginning.
One day she asked my why she couldnt be my girlfriend, date and be intimate. I told her from the very beginning, I didnt want that. Then she pressured me and hounded me to tell her why.
Finally I said " Because you dont turn me on, you are way overweight". She left and I never heard from her again. I felt bad, but that was the truth and she wanted to hear it.
I am such an ass.
I felt really bad, but I guess, as the saying goes " The truth hurts"
Oh, forgot, we would play World of Warcraft together every night. She was a healer and I was a warrior and she would make sure I would never die. We kinda dated in the game. She mastered cooking and would bring feasts to our picnics next to a camp fire in the woods. Weird, but we had fun. We also played UO and she would decorate the house and have a meal for me when I came home from hunting.
This was years ago, and believe it or not, I miss her terribly to this day and still feel bad about the whole situation.

But ambulance chiefs have warned that the movement of overweight patients is becoming increasingly problematic for paramedics who can sometimes risk their own safety.
I read some place that weight is pre-determined just like eye colour, height, there is very little you can do if you're body thinks you need to be 200lbs it will do it best to keep you there, i.e if you're 250lbs you can probably drop to 200lbs but it will me much harder to lose more but easier to gain when you're below 200lbs.

Well that's half correct, but yes the metabolism can make people more prone to be become fat/thin. For instance i have a cousin who eats like an ogre and who has always been slightly underweight. On the other hand i have an uncle who now, after certain treatments, eats less than average but still is obese, he ain't losing weight. Most likely because he has a metabolism that absorbs more "weight" (to put it in a non-medical way). (though since he's on a lot of medication that helps too)
So yes you're correct it's not always entirely someone's fault. But eating habbits do play an important role as well.

I answered your question in the post I quoted.
Yes, genetics can dictate musculature as much as it can dictate body fat. Anyone familiar with basic Mendelian Inheritance and how the DNA of various races are affected by their native ecosystem would comprehend that.
Much like the cigarette smoker you and those like you are fat because of vice and your inablity to control yourselves.
It has less to do with personal ego and more to do with group preparedness.
Fat people have physical limitations that fit people don't have - those limitations will prevent you from being useful if you are ever required to ______ so you should be pressured to stay relatively fit. It is in a ________ best interest to pick on people for being fat. To say more would be getting close to being against the rules here a MMORPG.COM
Where did I say I hate you? Where did I claim that fat people are to be hated? Some of my facebook friends are fat.
I'm merely stating that being fat isn't a virtue or something to aspire to become. I'm saying that unless you have a medical condition that makes you fat you shouldn't be fat and ________ has a reason to try to prevent people from becoming fat
Why is it so difficult for people to keep things in context? The colour of a person's skin might be determined by genetics. The colour of their eyes can be attributed to their genes... You know what is not determined by their genes? Being able to wipe their own ass! Being able to wash their lever 2000 parts! Being able to touch their toes! Being able to pull themselves up into a seated position without getting a red face. Being able to climb stairs without taking a break at the top.
Being fat is not the same as being a member of a race because being fat is a lifestyle. You choose to be fat. You chose to make yourself unfit for ________. You chose to put those things in your mouth and eat them. You chose to not exercise off the excess that you consume. All of these things are by choice and all of these things are why you are fat.
The blame is yours and not 100s of generations of fore fathers.
You are fat and your fat is attributed to vice not medical so you are doing something wrong.
You choose to be fat by your own actions and deeds or lack of them and your being fat not beneficial to yourself or anyone around you, infact, it's detrimental. to us or yourself, infact it's dtrimental
Am I stating anything that is untrue?
Detrimental to those around us? Huh, you must have no friends or family worth pissing on if you think that a real friendship takes weight into consideration. Why do you insist on claiming that it makes someone wrong as a human being simply because they choose to be over the weight limit of a "normal" person, even in the light of the revelation that we do not give a fuck? Does it fill some sort of gap in your soul?
Pop quiz hotshot:
How many firefighters does it take to drag a fat man out of a burning building?
How many fat men does it take to block an aisle which prevents everyone else from getting out of a burning theatre?
How long does it take for a fat man carry a rucksack and rifle 5 miles?
You should care a great deal about being fat.
How much more likely is it that someone would set the building on fire in the first place because a hate mongering bigot is taking shelter inside? Yet again, you are justifying the persecution of a subset of individuals that have existed for thousands of years because you think society as a whole would be better off if they didn't exist. I believe the modern day Nazi party runs on a similar platform.
Are any of those hypothetical situations derived from real life counterparts that resulted in the deaths of one or more of your family members? Because chipping away at intolerance is great.
**or any sort of nazi for that matter
