People arent supposed to listen to all those 'negative' threads..

but theyre supposed to listen to yours?

if most of those threads are "unfounded and without merit" then prove it.

No problem: Any thread saying this game sucks and will fail in 6 months is just bashing the game with no reason.

Currently playing SWTOR and it's MUCH better than it was at launch.

It's super polished, the story is very invovled, the combat is similar but still smooth and the planets are awesome. Also the crafting is very cool as well. If people don't like this MMO then they don't like MMO's in general

I disagree, there are many things that are just wrong, wrong, wrong with this game:

    - The stories are actually uninteresting and the dialogue is cliched. It takes hours of dull grinding to progress things.

    - The zones are densely and nonsensically packed with mobs every three feet. These aren't worlds, they're not even zones, they're fairground shooting galleries.

    - Everyone looks the same, dresses the same, uses the same weapons level by level.

    - The zones are static and lifeless.

    - The zones are also extremely small and far from 'open'.

    - The end game is exceptionally limited and will get old extremely soon.

    - Replayability, as I see it, is probably going to be limited to 1 main + half an alt.

So, no, I don't think this game is going to be a great success.

It's a very, very simple game for very, very simple people.

    hmm simple people ?

I have played eve for 6 years, most mmo's out there starting in M59 and before that muds (coded my own which is still going 14 years later btw).

Enjoy single player games like skyrim, mass effect etc

In eve (taking a break atm over christmas)

    http://eve.battleclinic.com/killboard/combat_record.php?type=player&name=Quebber

But yes I must be really simple because

    A) I enjoy the plotlines, storylines and even side quests in SWTOR

    B) I have 4 characters all of which I enjoy playing.

C)My wife also enjoys her swtor chars same goes for our friends.

None of which I would label as simple people, perverted yes, crazy yep but not simple.

Also we are looking forward to Secret world and maybe even GW2.

But SWTOR is alot of fun to us and is allowing us to enjoy roleplay, stories and SW content.

You pretty much failed in every point of your post.

Expecially against a day one launch mmo which has alot of potential to grow (better shape than alot of mmo's out there on day one and some of those turned out well also).

Against my better judgement, after 2 of the stress test weekends, I went ahead and purchased the game. I am now level 25, and can honestly say that there is nothing new to see here. I have long since tired of the voice-over, and now just spacebar through all of the cut scenes. You don't even need to pay attention because the game visually tells you if you are about to make a light/darkside choice. It's a change of scenery, and nothing else. SWTOR literally has NOTHING new to offer the world. I am not saying it's bad, it's just already been done to death.

i got bored after the first 20 levels and cant bring myself to log into the game anymore, the story is good but the quests are so boring and repetitive ad i feel like im doing the same thing over and over again.

Well at least you tried it unlike so many people bashing it. But do you really need the visual to tell you if something is good or evil anyway? :)

I disagree with your point that it brings nothing new to the genre: The crafting/companion system is not only fun but unique and it's a Star Wars/Sci-fi based MMO instead of the same old tired Orc, Elves and Dragons.

Why can't anyone produce an MMO that is NOT fantasy based? How about an Old West MMO? Anything but Orc, Elves and Dragons!

No problem: Any thread saying this game sucks and will fail in 6 months is just bashing the game with no reason.

I disagree, there are many things that are just wrong, wrong, wrong with this game:

    - The stories are actually uninteresting and the dialogue is cliched. It takes hours of dull grinding to progress things. If you don't like the stories being told, then you obviously have very poor taste. Nevertheless, story quality is subjective.

    - The zones are densely and nonsensically packed with mobs every three feet. These aren't worlds, they're not even zones, they're fairground shooting galleries.     This is a falsehood. I've never had a problem moving about the map without aggroing mobs, which is more than I can say for games such as WoW, or LOTRO where you can barely use a mount without being dismounted by aggro'd mobs.

    - Everyone looks the same, dresses the same, uses the same weapons level by level. Weird, I've never seen an agent dressed quite like mine. I see quite a few different variations of equipment, mostly due to the mod system, which allows a tremendous amount of flexibility.

    - The zones are static and lifeless. I'm sorry you're too blind to see the crowds of NPCs walking about, or too deaf to hear them talking. Granted they're not Skyrim, but I think there's enough NPC 'life' to suffice. Besides, one of your complaints was that there were 'too many' NPCs about, now you complain there's not enough? Which one is it then?

    - The zones are also extremely small and far from 'open'. Yeah, you're just full of it. The only planet/zone  I've encountered so far which this description could possibly apply to would be Nar Shaddaa. I guess I imagined all the time I spent just zooming around the wide open spaces in Balmorra and Tattooine.

    - The end game is exceptionally limited and will get old extremely soon. Not there yet, so can't comment.

    - Replayability, as I see it, is probably going to be limited to 1 main + half an alt. A subjective opinion at best.

So, no, I don't think this game is going to be a great success. A baseless opinion, especially given that most available information indicates the game is so far a success.

It's a very, very simple game for very, very simple people. Aaaand, you just pretty much established yourself as an incredibly elitist prick. I'm glad you don't like SWTOR, as I sure as hell don't want you or your ilk in any game I play.

that's because technically from a design standpoint you are doing the same things over and over. That's the whole reason why people like me are trying to tell those who read these threads why it will have no lasting power. They worked on this game for how long and this is the best they could do with the questing? gimme a break.

Yeah only if you like exactly the same thing you've seen in World of Warcraft, Lord of the Rings, etc etc only with light sabors and tech. I'm sorry but the huge queue times aside (big design flaw there, they pissed off so many new comers not only new to their game but new to the mmo genre entirely) they really had all the time in the world to work out and make great problems that have faced players and developers in every game since EQ. How many years were they in developement throwing out hype? hmmm? can anyone remember how long that they had to wait to finally release this game? And this is the best they can do!? you're kidding me.

Sure it was more polished then most games but when you tout your game as a next gen game please please deliver..... otherwise you're just polishing a turd.

it's called poor management. "let's release it now before people forget it's there" that's literally how long they've had this on the burner. What gets me is they make it sound like it's a next gen game and then deliver like three improvements which i have to say is better then the two that Rift had however it's definitely not a fix. They need to like other game devs, go through and improve upon ALL aspects of gameplay before launch, then it will be a next gen mmo. If you tout your game as next gen devs of the future, please please deliver, it's really insulting to log into a game only to find the same "kill ten rats" system of questing, voice overs or not it's the same.

For the same reason first-person shooters are still being released with exactly the same gameplay elements as Quake and UT - people like them and they sell.

That said, I'm not convinced that TOR doesn't bring anything new to MMOs. For a start the dialogues are pretty unique in MMOs, and provide a whole new type of gameplay that only single player games have had until now. I know they don't appeal to everyone, especially Achiever types but for those of us who don't fall into that category they represent a massive breath of fresh air. I suspect they'll also appeal to casual gamers too. They introduce a character-led, emotional form of gameplay (albeit fairly basically) that few, if any, MMOs have managed to pull off.

There's also the crew aspect to the game, which brings an element of management to the genre that doesn't exist elsewhere. Not only are companions handy in combat and allow you to bring different ones along to give you an adaptable edge, but choosing which ones to set to crafting or send out on crew missions is another nice addition to standard MMO gameplay. You just don't get that anywhere else.

As I said, I agree that TOR doesn't bring too much new for Achiever types but given that just about every MMO released over the past decade have been aimed almost exclusively at Achievers at the expense of other types of gameplay, I don't think it's a bad thing at all. And it certainly sets it apart from all the other MMOs out there, which is why I think it is causing so much consternation among certain gamers. It's ironic that although TOR gets billed as WoW in space by its critics, many of the criticisms boil down to it not being enough like WoW.

Me, I'm loving it. I was looking forward to it anyway, mainly because it was Bioware making it and it wasn't going to be yet another tedious elves and orcs game, but the way it plays as a whole has won me over more than I thought it ever would.

Quake and MW3 are the same thing O_o   .. and MW3 is like BF3  O_o

i tried to play tor..... very bland andn stale... seems like it was made on a very generic engine.   the enviroments are bad and the dialog used on quests is an attempt to make me car about fetch and kill x to complete a quest.  even the dialog choices you choose are pretty weak.

I do not understand why people are in love with this.  I feel dumb and cheated for having gotten it.  the character creation is horrible.  it's just bad.

All you people say it is polished.... well a polished turd is still that a turd.

The sad part is i can forsee everything thta will happen in this game before it even happens since ti follows the same mold as all other theme park mmos.

I am an idiot for having bought it i cannot express that enough. .

Great marketing and great viral marketing by the fan bois.   i really do agree with the review gampro gave to it.

I can't even explain how bad it is.  It just feels old so old.   i thougth i was just beign jaded but everythign i was hoping to be wrong about was right.

It looks like crap.   the combat handles fine and the only compliment i can give it is that there is no auto attack and you have to be more involved.

I just do not know why you people are so in love with it.  It just feels sterile and generic.  The characters are bland.. the way they look act and the poor detail to them gives them no character.   Everyone looks generic and like it was made by one of those no name game publishers.

I am repeating myself only because how taken i feel.  it is just trash and the hype around it is astounding.  how did they brain wash you all??

its the same thing we have seen but with light sabers and dialog.  it improved nothing .. nada you still have to grind grind grind. ..

all of you will follow the same trail with a twist due to different class. You will all grind the same content for the same gear for the same spec that will be come the cookie cutter to run the same content over and over again...

everything you do will be pre planned so you will never actually be different just the same as everyone else.. if at least you didn't look the same that would be a huge help but all classes look the same. and will look the same once geared out.

you will discover nothign but follow the game on rails

enjoy your crappy game, please do., and I hope you get tired of it and realize after years what a pos it is.

I think most would agree (lovers and haters) that Bioware delivered pretty much on what they promised. I think your blowing quite a bit of smoke out your ass.
