Am I missing something? I didn't play WoW beyond level 30 as I thought it was a pile of monkey dung, so maybe I just don't get the joke. That said, if TOR was a WoW clone then I wouldn't be playing it as I loathed WoW.

There is desert both in WOW and SWTOR and has same color too...so yeah it is a WOW clone.

How many servers SWTOR will launch with on release?

ShredderSE - Umm how many do they need? Maybe 6.
US, EU, Asian, France, German and Russian.
Subs will be so low there is no need for more
    Snoocky-How many servers?
The first 3 months a lot...after that 2 i guess, one for PVE and 1 for PVP...

Thorbrand - SWTOR doesn't have longevity at all. Might be one of the shortest lived MMOs.

WoW! A desert! This must be JUST LIKE World of Warcraft!

No other game has a desert. In fact theres nothing like this in the world that they may have been influenced by, the Sahara desert really was just a figment of my imagination, imagine that!

Tattooine is also a planet that completely rips off Tanaris, shame on you Bioware! SHAME!

Have i fed you enough yet? Is that okay? I didn't want to overfeed you see. Stop trolling and just go play what you enjoy, no sense is making another irrelevant thread. Have a good day :)

So a game with a desert location automatically becomes a clone of another game which also has a desert location? Or do I need to consider that both games have a UI to really get it?

Yeah, them deserts are such clones of each other, with all their fancy pants dunes and scorpions. Nerf deserts! That Sahara is such a clone of the Arabian desert, they've got the same graphics and everything. Jeez, let's get some originality!

Okay I really don't want to get into shit slinging, but please. Let's not insult the intelligence of everyone reading. The 2 zones look very much alike right down to the pink tinted flying creatures (vultures in WoW; bats in SWTOR). Let's forget the bones, or the settlement in the OP's screenie -- which reminds me of Gadgetzan. If I squinted, the OP's screenshot would pass for Tanaris easily.

Now I'm not going to shout blood... deserts exist IRL. But the resemblance is uncanny.

I need to take this advice more.

[mod edit]. Sorry bud, Tatooine existed in lore a long time before WOW even came into existence. The only similarity i see is the desert and nothing more.

They're comparable. One is a 2004 game, the other is a 2011 game.

One runs at thrice the resource engagement compared to the other. (Hint: it's not WoW)

I'll leave the decision making to you.

Old screenshot because AFAIK since cata half the zone is now flooded with water, so there would be little to no point in showing you a desert under water.

Intelligent people don't make ridiculous post like these. Sorry bud, Tatooine existed in lore a long time before WOW even came into existence. The only similarity i see is the desert and nothign more.

No one says another desert can't exist. But it's foolish to claim that the artistic and stylistic interpretation is not alike. And guess what, Tanaris, WoW existed before Tatooine, SWTOR.

That said, why are you (and your friends) getting so bent out of shape? There isn't any implication here that this is bad or negative.

Except Star Wars did it first:

So TOR is obviously going to have a place like this whereas WoW must have copied the idea. :)

When people try too hard to find similarities and bash the game it is always amusing..and posting history doesn't help either. Every MMO that has a desert has to be inspired by tanaris..
