Mobo, CPU Cooler, memory fit check

BrachusBrachus Member UncommonPosts: 97

I'm just about done my new build and have all the parts except the memory. My mobo is an ASUS P8Z68-V Pro and I have a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus cooler. I'm inclined to get 8GB Corsair Vengeance, model # CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9B, as I have succesfully utilized Corsair memory in all my machines for the last 6 years and it's on the approved list for this board.

My question, as stupid as it may be, is will that memory physically fit my motherboard with that CPU cooler installed? When I check the measurements, it looks like they will fit, but I see several posts from people saying the CPU cooler interfered with the memory on this model mobo. Are my measurements off, or are these people having fit issues just worse than me at their builds? Anyone have some experience with this board, cooler, and memory combo?

Lastly, if the Corsair won't fit, any suggestions on a substitute?

I can't promise 100% for certain that it will fit, but from eyeballing it, I'd say there's a slight chance that you'll run into trouble with four memory modules, and essentially no chance that you'll have trouble with two modules.  Most likely, those who had trouble with the memory fitting were using a much larger, thicker cooler than a Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus.

I'd regard the absolute worst case scenario as being that you have to point the processor fan in the "wrong" direction and then it fits.  That's less than ideal, but if you've got a case with plenty of airflow, even that won't be a problem.

Thanks, Quiz! I'd only have 2 modules, and don't see a need for more than 8 GB in a system anytime soon. From what I can see, I think I'd be fine with them in slots 2 and 4. I think the only potential problem would be in slot 1.

The case I have is a Cooler Master Storm Enforcer, so I don't think airflow would be a problem if I had to mount the cooler differently.

Yeah, you should be fine.  The people who had trouble fitting the parts were probably using a bigger cooler.  If you got something enormous like this:

then you'd have to worry a lot more about whether it will fit.

Just wanted to pop in and give an update after getting the Corsair memory. I installed them in slots 2 and 4 with no issue. If I were to go to 4 DIMM's, I think I'd have a problem, but the 2 fit just fine.
