SW:TOR is a good game

(First impression)

But a rather crappy mmo...

I played about 20 hours or so, the story is great and the overall gameplay is good enough feels polished yadayada.

The MMO part just feels tacked on and kinda pointless however, it adds nothing to have 200 of your clones (even more apparent when they also have the same companion) running around seeing them stand like statues while talking to NPCs having an identical conversation you had/will have killed the same bad guy(s) etc like you are in seperate dimensions, rather it detracts heavily from the experience.

The game at least on this level would be better of completely instanced (like gw1) or just a plain singleplayer(with upto 4 coop) game.

My experience with the MMO part can be summed up to being spammed by duel requests and waiting(spamming chat) around to find a group and/or to people to get to the heroic area, otherwise I try to ignore it is an MMO. Sorta feels like they tried to push a square stick through a round hole.

Not that this is a suprise to me though, I bought this game purely to experience the story due to the good feedback on it and I will only sub if I don't happen to finish it before my 30 days are up or if they miracoulusly manage to add enough quality story content to justify a monthly sub (the days of pure gear grind are over for me).

Agreed. Mods should make universal thread for bashing and thread for praising the game.

LOL!!!  If we stop talking about SW-TOR, what would we talk about????

Oh, the weather outside is lovely today or "I hear a new MMO is coming out, I have no info on it, but I will speculate it's going to be good".

I agree..A 4 player coop had made so much more sence..But ohh well..It's still a good game as you stated..

But as an MMO it fails completly I think, as it is the actual MMO parts that makes you loose the star wars felling from the things you mentioned aswell as trying to play a game completly based on voice at the same time hearing your eager friends on ventrilo or teamspeak etc..And ...Seeing and hearing the same voiced dialogues over and over when helping friends and doing alts ..Well..I actually think they did a good job with the game considering all this(the best they could, as they deiceided to make it an MMO), but It would have been so much better as a singleplayer game or as a 4 player Coop..

The square stick through a round hole is a suitable description for it actually :)

I have enjoyed the game greatly. I would recommend it to friends anyday.

It's a shallow themepark. If it did not have the SW IP it would have been regarded as a decent game but nothing special. Personally I think themepark is anathema to what the SW universe stands for.

20 hours of gameplay is all i needed to know to come to the conclusion that your opinion is invalid.  Your first 20 or so hours in almost every mmo is pretty much a single player RPG with 200 clones running around doing the same quests.

I have had more MMO in Star Wars in the few weeks its been out than i have in the last 2 years of wow.  Unless you consider standing in one city for 40 levels clicking a que to pew pew for 10 mins an MMO.

That's really a silly comparison to make, don't you think? It's new. As soon as people figure stuff out, it'll be back to standing around in town doing nothing again. Once people realize the majority of quests are all the same, that "leveling alts will be awesome" feeling will slowly go away as well.

Not sure why people are calling you out for being negative.  I'm a fan of SWTOR actually and I agree with the gist of your post.

I think in some ways it is a revolutionary RPG (not MMO).  I disagree it should have been fully instanced or coop though, as I've had enjoyable ad hoc PVE groupings and I think shared dialogue is kind of fun.  Their use of instancing I think is done very well (much more targeted than say GW1 or DDO).

But viewing it as a pure MMO, I think it is lacking as well.  But I think a game should be judged on being a game, not a particularly genre.  As a game it is very good.  But I like you will probably unsub after I finish off the casual stories as I am in general a PVP type for MMO endgames and PVP is very poor in SWTOR in my opinion.

GW2 "built from the ground up with microtransactions in mind"
    1) Cash->Gems->Gold->Influence->WvWvWBoosts = PAY2WIN
    2) Mystic Chests = Crass in-game cash shop advertisements

Well, comparing WoW endgame to SWTOR levelling isn't exactly fair, now is it? The journey to level cap is no doubt fun in TOR, maybe more fun that in WoW. I however don't see how that makes it a great MMO.

Compare apples to apples and you might make more sense.

Yes almost every mmo is like that doesn't make it a good thing, the whole quest concept is severely flawed in an mmo and bioware decided to base their entire mmo around that and it's somewhat ironic that the high quality of their version of the questing system only makes the flaws of it stand out even more (at least to me).

As for the "mmo" I have to disagree leveling in wow (despite being far inferior) does indeed feel more MMO then TOR.

Wait time out replay declline fould technical foul intentional foul offsides goal tending nto a home run and so on.

Yet somon could play 20 hours and praise the game? Or their opinions would be invalid, I mean hell a WoW fanboy played 20 hours and claimed it as the best MMO ever in a sense.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.
