Standards and item reaping

That whole guild setup seems rather cool, though I've been wondering one thing.  Would you be forcing houses to keep the same standard over and over.

I think it adds a little more credibility if a new establishment can basically put their own standard up on all the flagmasts and basically make the house THEIRS once they occupy it with their own little symbol.

Personally I think a simple black and white (and by black and white I mean TWO COLORS) image in a special location could be uploaded when you make a guild, the guild creator can then customize it further by attributing two colors to their standard.

The two color thing will keep people from copying ridiculous pictures off the net as their emblem, kind of force them to keep to a simple image.  Hopefully people will stay tasteful and possibly make a standard that could have many IC meanings.  The format would also keep the image size small enough to be quickly uploaded on demand.  And when a guild takes a house, all its banners will display that guild... or some such.....

Anywho it would also be nifty if there was an art, "Forge Standard" or some such, a simple item creation art that would create a banner of whatever guild you are in, just like those dol/uoc/hc/etc flags that were floating about UL, but this would allow the common dreamer to make them, BUT ONLY for their own house.  These items would serve no game mechanic purpose outside of allow people to show their guild pride!

That brings me to another topic, room reaping, could you perhaps turn down the timer, with conditions.  How about, if the number of items in a room is below a magic number, then items will remain in that room for a few hours, maybe 4-6 or so.  If the number of items is above that magic number, lets say 5, for arguments sake, then the room cleans out in 11 minutes or so.  This would keep high clutter areas clean, yet allow someone to pretty up a room for a brief period of time with a few items without everything going poof in 10 minutes.

Because only someone as deranged as me would have a rubber chicken Named Alfredo Sanchez

was looking through all the old posts, and this is the first time I've seen this one which is why I'm bumping it.....

Something came to mind when thinking about aspirant guilds that are succesful in taking over a house.  All the houses have thier primary color on the flags, but there usually is a secondary associated with the house, like DoL's flag is green, but yellow is their color too, HC has a royal blue flag with blood as their other associated color, etc..  And the houses have thier "proper" names.  What if when an aspirant guild takes over a house, they can modify, not completly change, just modify three things about the Standards - the secondary color, the name, and the symbol itself.

Example:  Keepers of the Eternal Shadow are supplying and helping an aspirant guild who succesfully take over Dreamers of Light.  The colors go from green yellow, to green black, the symbol is changed so that at the circle now has the three inward hash marks from the Keeper's symbol, and the name is changed to Keepers of the Light, or Dreamers of the Shadow.

course, I don't have a clue as to how this could be implemented or what it would require from a technical/coding standpoint, but something I've thinking about and posted when I found this post.

Wow that pisses me off, I wrote a huge reply and it didn't show up. Here goes again in short summary heh.

Anyways, marching around with your home's flag in battle sounds epic and cool, as long as it's not abused by a hundred dreamers with flags waving around. Maybe have one flag that can be made at a time by a Ruler or whatnot, that vapes after a time limit or something. Maybe the guy with the flag gives off a kind of 'morale aura' that helps local housemates. Maybe I'm rambling and overdoing it. :D

About colors, I thought a secondary color to signify your guild's occupation is a great idea. Shows right off the bat who this "House Calenture" for instance, really is. Maybe the original two colors for each house that goes by 'legend' would be its well known current beliefs in UL, like HC's colors for Red and Blue would signify the FreeSoul/Banishment guild, from that house's legendary characteristic. Then if some Imprisoners take it over, could be Blue and Green, just for example, or any secondary color available really. Only on crests and flags, where a color swap wouldn't be so code intensive, would show the switch in the secondary color.

Changing the symbol it seems would be too code intensive. The house's symbol is already plastered in the levels all over, perhaps in some more creative ways than just a flat image. And having a secondary symbol referencing your guild would seem kind of confusing, for each dreamer in a house would have both a house symbol and a guild symbol. On the other hand, somewhat similar to Malamenz's suggestion, maybe if a guild could have some kind of very simple mini-symbol that somehow can be seamlessly put over the center of any house's symbol. There could be a wide assortment of miniature icons to be chosen by your guild during the Found Guild evocation. After creation, the guild icon can be worn. But after a house is claimed by the guild, their guild's icon will be placed miniaturized in the center of the house's symbol.

Just thought of an alternative idea about the crest's colors. Perhaps each house's primary and secondary color would change in relation to the guild's belief? For example:

The primary house color be a bright color like yellow, jade, cyan etc for Illuminated; or blood red, forest green, navy blue etc for Freesoul. Each color variation can be chosen by the aspirant-guild during Found Guild evocation.

Then the secondary house color be related to the way of dealing with nightmares, like having a greenish color for imprisonment and a blueish color for banishment, and so on.

In relation, an aspirant-guild trying to take over Calenture could pick blood red as their primary color, the darkness of the color signifying FreeSoulism, and a blueish secondary color of the guild's choice, in which any blue color would mean banishment. This way, even if another FreeSoul/Banisher aspirant-guild tried to take over Calenture afterward, they would have to use slightly different colors, but still fitting to the color/belief structure set up.

On the Rec website, it describes that these two primary and secondary beliefs have to be chosen for the house charter anyways by each guild, so why not associate it with color? In fact, forget everything I wrote in my other post above, this sounds best I think. :D These two colors could be only shown on house crests and flags to keep coding simple.

hmmm, I kinda like the idea a guild could pick its own second color, course, half the aspirants would probably pick black as their second color....

but, I also like that certain colors represent diferent aspects of beliefs....... hmmm choices

I like the idea of being able to design your own flag (maybe that's the artist in me heh) and making Lyra having to approve of it first too. This might also cut out abuse of so many using it. Lyra would know who was doing and using what.

I like the color idea too if that wouldn't work.
