Dark And Light or Guild Wars...

I can't chose...

I havn't read much about Guild Wars but I feel like I read way to much about (D&L) that I don't even want to read about Guild Wars...

Guild Wars will be out before Dark and Light (presuming D&L ever is released)...so I think you'll have a great opportunity to try both.

My choice would be "Guild Wars" of the 2 you listed.

I'd like to beta test both... but that probably ain't gonna happen.

Guild Wars looks to be really great. No monthly fee, great gameplay- whats not to like?

Those of you who like Guild wars over DnL.  What is it you like and why doesn't DnL fit the bill?  I'm not flaming or trolling.  I don't know much about either.

I definitely wouldn't go with Guild Wars (I've already listed my reasons for this plenty of times on this site). As for DnL... that remains to be seen.

May be we should wait till the games are acutally released to judge them.

    Actually, scrape that...

The floor is officially open to wild speculation, flaming and hear-say!!!!

depends on your preference. if you are a casual gamer or more into strategy then guild wars would be a great game for you, if you are more into roleplaying and complex gameplay DnL would probably suit you better.

Make of it what you will.

Guild wars will be financed by releasing expansions on a regular basis. Without those you cannot play. If that isn't the same as a montly cost, I don't know what is .p

You can still play without expansions. Like, you can still play Everquest without expansion(I think).

Me, I'm a general in search of an army.  SB is as close as they come and it is still a smelly pile of rancid dog crap compared with what something approaching a 'good' game would be along the same lines.  I've all but given up of Darkfall ever being released, and that was my favorite.

I'm just interested in why people think Guild wars is better than DnL.  It seems that GW fans are the largest group right now.

Oh, will the expansion players and regular players be in the same server?

Does anyone know how often guild wars dev plan to release these expansions? Will you have to buy all expansions, if you take break and while your gone 5 expansions are released or will they plan to have all previous expansions in latest expansion?

Yes, technicaly you can play without expansions, but in a pure PvP game, it would put you at a huge disadvantage (almost forcing you to buy expansions), wouldn't it?

Guild Wars expansions will not unbalance the game.

I can see how you'd think it would work that way. Everyone else is ripping MMO players off, why would someone decide to do it differently?

There will be more items, skills, classes, races, missions, wilderness, monsters, etc, etc. But none of it will make characters more powerful than the original ones. Just more flexible.

Ya, Guild Wars is skill based, which makes it more one what skills you use at what time. Also, will expansion people and regular be in the same server???

Yeah, on the same server, coz there's only ever going to be 1 server. People with different expansions will supposedly still be able to compete in the tournaments against each other and go adventuring in chapters that they share. The only restriction is that if you don't have a particular chapter, you obviously can't go there with friends that have it.

I think the expansions will be less 'adds another 20 levels, with loot to match' and instead more like additional chapters of a book. The Guild Wars experience is group questing and PvP - you pay for more questing via the expansions (at least thats the feeling i get from all the info currently available from arena.net), but the effect on pvp would be negligible.

Due to the instanced nature of GW, i see no reason why those with the expansion and those without can't co-exist, anyone thats actually played GW knows that the 'navigation' consists of explorable areas linking towns or quests.

    ---sig---

PvE in general is pretty lame, if you think long and hard about it. You are spending your time beating a severely gimped AI that would lose to a well trained monkey. Best not to think too long and hard why you are wasting time playing games in general actually...

Ohwell, I will still have fun playing the content. I probably will not get done will all the content by first expansion.

not sure how good Guild wars is in largescale pvp, though i would hope they would exel, that being the name and all. Two of DnL's major features are taking fortresses and nobility, so if you have enough SxP you can rule over a certain amount of land or a fortress, which means hiring guards and organizing an army, among other things.

main reasons for guild wars having a bigger fanbase is because of advertising and much more information on the game, especially directly from beta testers.

As for me, i'm with DnL. I'm sure everyone has heard a million times why it's so awesome so i won't go into that.

Make of it what you will.

Where do people get this? They arent going to be releasing expansions anymore than any other major MMORPG, as in 2 to 3 per year. And what makes you think you cant play if you dont get the expanison? Thats just BS, you can still play you just wont get the benefits of having the expansion.

From the Official Guild Wars FAQ:

Am I required to buy the expansion packs to continue to play Guild Wars?

No. Every purchase you make in the continuation of the Guild Wars saga will be your choice. If you purchase expansion packs you will gain access to new regions of the world, new skills and abilities, new items, new professions, and much more. However, if you choose to not purchase a chapter, you will still be able to play the chapters of Guild Wars that you own, and you will have common areas in which you will be able to play with and against your friends who have purchased the other chapter(s).

Will I remain competitive if I do not buy the expansion packs? Will I be able to compete with and against others if I have only some of the Guild Wars chapters?

Yes. Purchasing the newer chapters of Guild Wars will not make you strictly more powerful. You will have access to many more strategic options, due to the expanding nature of the skills, abilities, items and professions that you enjoy with each chapter. It would be similar to building a deck in Magic: The Gathering™: The more cards you own, the more different playing decks that you can choose from to use in the game. When you buy the chapters of Guild Wars, you will acquire a larger collection of skills and abilities from which to build your skill set, but you will not gain more power. So if you purchase a chapter and your friend does not, you will still be able to play competitively against and with one another.

I'm almost positive I will be playing Dark and Light over Guild Wars..

The expansion pack thing scares me (I like weekly/monthly updates like AC) and the screenshots of the game don't attract me as an MMORPG player..

For some reason it reminds me of Mortal Combat

Looks like someone got into a box of crayola's. There is just something too... Warner Brothers about the graphics IMO.
