This is the 3rd time they do the maintenance during play hours in europe, with a lot of people still having vacation this is not fair. The US gets its nightly maintenance, us europeans dont. I think they should offer all europeans 3 days of playtime back for their own planning mistakes.
Sometimes it feels just like us europeans are nothing but 2nd rate people. This has to end here and now.

I'd get used to it. Looks like they have been doing about the same time every week.
I live in the US, but I work nights, so usually when they are doing maintenance I'm just getting home from work. I feel your pain. Rembember, it's not just EU people that can't play during this time, there are lots of Americans that play at this time of day also.
In the end, they have to do it some time. They try to pick the time when it will affect the least amount of people. It may not be 2 AM your time, but its still early/late morning to early afternoon. Those aren't exactly peak play times in Europe or anywhere else. It would be much worse if they did it at a time when it's peak time in Europe but off time in US.

Yeah it kinda sucks.
It doesn't happen a lot for me to stay home during day time, I usually work, and when I'm on vacation I'm either going on holiday or doing something else. It's not a disaster, but I was planning to play some swtor the whole day.
And they'll dissapoint someone else each and every time they do that. Next week wednesday I'll be working again, but other people may be in the same situation as we are right now.
Sorry to hear that Lord.Bachhus.
As much as this forum loves to label me a hater, I am going to have to agree with the other here and say that there simply isn't a win-win for anyone when it comes to maintenance.
It sucks that it feels as if your group and you is specifically targetted but that is definitely not the case. So hang in there!
"Never argue with a fool; onlookers may not be able to tell the difference."
I need to take this advice more.
Folks in Britain get great shows like Torchwood, Being Human, and Bedlam delivered into their homes, and without all the censoring that us Americans must deal with when we watch BBC America.
That shit has to balance in our favor sometimes.
Seriously....yeah it would be better if they staggered patches for you guys, but that is how it was being done in EQ yrs ago. I suppose WOW didnt set all the rules. heh
Asking Devs to make AAA sandbox titles is like trying to get fine dining on a McDonalds dollar menu budget.
I'm an American, and I think it kinda sucks. It's 2 AM for me, and on holidays, I'm still logged in and playing for at least another two hours or so. For people on the west coast, it's just 12 AM, which is crazily early for lengthy server maintenance. For people in the EU, I realize maintenance is prime time, and perhaps they do things differently, but this being a North American game developed by a North American company using a North American IP, I guess if they had to upset one set of customers, they chose the lesser of two evils.
It's not on, taking a full day of play away from EU customers each week.
This is the price we pay for demanding they let us play on both EU and NA servers with the same box. You want a global service, you suffer a global maintenance window.
Only games with seperate services offer different patch times.
I think Rift used to do their patches / maintenance around 4am / 5am uk time which was when most of the US had gone to bed, and it would finish before most Europeans were out of bed. I could be wrong.
Actually that makes a lot of sense.
A game patched, trying to run a server not patched probably wouldnt be the best idea.

Its probably cheaper to do it this way. There is no reason why they cant change this. Other MMO's with just one global client that lets you play either on US or EU/Global servers, have seperate maintenance windows for EU/Global and US. Only patches then happen globally.
Nonsense. Even the much hated SOE had seperate maintenance windows for EU and US servers. Even though you could join any server with your client. Downtime for patches were done globally, but weekly maintenance was seperate.
Your client (if you mean client with 'box' )has nothing to do with this .
actually if it was a global time it would have been oke.
but its not. its an american time made global. now thats pretty bullshit.
This is a bloody joke, servers offline entire day til 4pm? Why can't they do this while people are asleep. One day i'm not at work and they decide to do this. Who the hell came up with the idea of doing maintenance during the day? I hope they get this changed can't imagine many are happy with these maintenance times.
They need to sort this - I'm not sure they understand that it isn't acceptable.
I hear what some of our American friends are saying, that it isn't uniquely a European problem, but it does affect more of us (and Australasians). My take on it is that it isn't acceptable, whatever time zone/work pattern you have, it's only natural that more Europeans will take an issue. Why isn't it acceptable? Because the windows are so long that you're going to have a hard time not pissing anyone off - from the American that plays late at night, to the European that plays during the day and the Australian that plays in the morning, with such a long window you're going to capture a wide range of people with wildly different lifestyles. 8+ hours is ludricous and not indicative of the time it takes to update each individual server - they could half that if they did maintainence in two seperate sweeps for each zone and stop pissing so many people off in the process. If they really wanted to think outside the box, they could do each region in a ripple, bring each server down for minutes rather than most of the day. Most companies don't do this because they scared of the reaction from customers and, as I suspect in Bioware's case, because their servers/account systems are not as independent as they ought to be (evidenced by the loss of forums during maintainence - wtf?). But they can at least do maintainence in two seperate regions (I would hope?) - the European servers are in Ireland, they may as well stuck them in Korea. I'm assuming they put them in Ireland for QoS reasons, or am I dreaming that up?
Personally, if they keep this method up I'll be losing ~4 days from every subscription. Sure, they need to do maintainence and it needs to happen at some point - I understand that. I just think that planning your window so that whoever is unlucky enough to play during that time loses a whole day of play. Well, that's why I think it is unacceptable. Can't recall it t happening in any other mmorpg, but I'm sure someone will correct me on that. Perhaps WoW, but I can't recall. Definitely not on other mmorpgs I've played (except Mortal Online, lolz). 8+ hours is an expansion pack downtime, not weekly maintainence (which is usually 4 hours tops).
I am not crying, i am just making a statement.
After playing MMO's for 14 years, things like this get really irritating. Some games improve onn that, by doing different maintenance times for EU and US and the rest of the world, others dont.I just hope Bioware belongs to the first group.
Its not childish my kind sire, if there is no criticisme on things, then they will never change, removing all innovation from the world, Criticisme is both a virtue as a pitfall for modern humankind.

That's it......I am going back to Rift. At least they think about their customers.
not having vacation anymore but day off from work and danggggggggg maintenance! amateurs.
Since the servers are open to all. The maintenance just has to be done on all servers at once.
Just bothers me that they need 7-8 hrs to do it!!!

Yeah?, Well i want it back!!!
this is a useless post, kiddy gamers? and get a life? hehe some people are so funny
It is a valid complaint, no matter how you'd like to spin it. Even FTP games handle their maintenance downtime better and there is really no excuse for a major player to adhere to these kind of bad tactics towards their clients.
I'm absolutely certain the maintenance downtime policy will get reviced, the only question is how long it will take them to do it.
Even if I'm wrong about you, which I'm not realy convinced yet, there's still a bunch of other posts making me pretty spot on.
Withdrawal symptoms ... this thread can has them.
Which is easy for me to say because I am at work and can't play untill 5:30 pm cet anyway :P
My brand new bloggity blog.
good for you pony, bio ruining my day off! =D
For a very long time WoW actually did their weekly EU server maintenance friday afternoon. This eventually was changed since the players got pretty annoyed having to start their weekends waiting for the servers to get online.
