People Who Say 3D Sucks

MARTYB2KMARTYB2K Member Posts: 167

I see no other reason. All the games i've played. Uncharted 3, Super Stardust HD Gran Turismo 5, Batman Arkam City and even WOW is apparently awesome in 3D!

If you can get it i say give it a try, it really improves some games. Sure, it wouldn't really benefit all games, but it's a nice alternative to sometimes use and it's not really that expensicve[mod edit]

I dislike 3D because it gives me a headache and im forced to cut my gaming sessions short (under an hour).

It has nothing to do with affording the hardware.

    Playing: Nothing

    Looking forward to: Nothing

Does Alienware now sell 3D enabled gaming laptops?

Not quite sure what technology is being referenced here.

I normally eschew 3D tech as I wear eye glasses it doesn't work well for me to wear 3D glasses over them.

Or are you talking about something else?

I don't like 3D because my eyes can't focus it. I have a prism in one of my lenses to keep my eyes pointing together. Cost is not the issue, the technology itself is.

And I'll just leave this here for you. Might help with the shortsightedness.

This. It's fairly unimpressive tech-wise and more than likely just a means to recoup some of the expenditure on the way to real 3D projection.

Perhaps I belong to the group of people that WhiteLantern linked to, but all I see when I watch 3DTV are slightly embossed images.

I am in the same boat, which is why I avoid 3d movies.  Plus too much additional strain on my eyes is really bad for my health.

Been playing games a long time and been watching movies for even longer, not until the industry told me, did I realize I was unable to tell if an object was in the background or foreground.

Like a lot of people here... I don't like 3D because it hurts my eyes and this isn't a rare problem. I remember a survey last year, where 1 out of 5 people found new 3D tech to induce migraines and that doesn't include the people who either find it uncomfortable or just can't afford the overpriced TVs or expensive Nvidia 3D set-up for it.

I'm also in the "3D makes me sick" boat. I avoid all 3D movies because they give me a headache. I've tried the 3DS on several occasions (ocarina of time) and I couldn't play for more than 10 minutes without either turning the 3D off, or turning the game off.

Oh and I'll add that all of the 3D movies I've suffered through...I've seen absolutely no point in the 3D tech. The only thing I've ever seen that makes good use of 3D is the ride at California Adventure (random I know), where you are playing a bunch of shooting games in the Toy Story Universe. All the movies (and I imagine most computer games) seem to just use it as a gimmick, or a reason to release a movie to make more money (I'm looking at you Lucas Arts)

and we could say people who say a new tech is marvelous just for the sake for having it is a elitist bastard,  for now 3d is not what is was suposed to do, is just simulated something with some people feel sick at first, some people after some time get used to it and don't feel anything anymore some don't, older you become more easy is for you to feel sick and not get over it.

plus please what they say 3d I say 2.5D at most, its too far to feel like a real 3D feeling.

3D might be the 'next thing', but it is BAD FOR THE EYES - PERIOD!

Our eyes are used to REAL 3D as we experience it in the real world. Making virtual 3D might be 'easy' to see for a limited period of time, but in the end, your eyes will keep focussing to correct the virtual 3D displayed from a 2D image, which wil ture your eyes and result in a headache in the end.

My eyes for one are 100% NOT SUITED for virtual 3D (a focussing anomaly), and even if I could, I'd not use virtual 3D for gaming / movies.

That is the reason I don't like 3D.  Nothing triggers a migraine faster, even watching a new report with a "3D" action clip in the background is enough.  It's just vision imparements that prevent 3D from working, believe me I have tried (and paid the price every time).

As for 3D capable hardware, I already have it.

Edit: Still waiting for real 3D, Bring on the holograms!

I get headaches from 3D as well.

I don't have problems with headaches.. I have problems with glasses.. I don't wear glasses currently, and don't want to wear them when I decide to play games, or watch a movie, or whatever.  What happens if I lose the glasses?  Its just not worth it for me, especially since, chances are, I would definitely lose or break them,  or my dog would steal them.

I've had the Nvidia 3D glasses for a couple of years now (got them as part of the kit for my PC) and TBH the only game I really enjoy them with is TF2. Every MMO I've played with them just doesn't work right for me, either technically (game not supported and/or excess lag), or the "layers" are done in a way that gives me a headache- such as in WoW the UI elements would appear close and the toon and world would have more depth but when I'd loot a kill the arrow would be close up and the corpse far away which would hurt my eyes.

3D gives me a massive headache. I don't know how anyone can stand it. Also, in shooters it distorts the hard aiming weirdly so it takes time to get used to aiming again. I dunno, I just don't like it. Don't like 3D movies either.

3d isn't supposed to give you a headache. If it does, chances are you either need glasses or, like me, have a certain degree of colorblindness which is distorting what you are supposed to be seeing, and causing your eyes to strain.

I don't get behind 3d either, for the above reason. Also, I just don't find it necessary. It irked the hell out of me that every other movie was 3d a few years ago, it cost extra for an experience that was seldom worth it. Talk to me when holodecks exist, until then I'm not interested.

I'd be open to trying 3D on say, a TV, but I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to LCD monitor panels and as far as I know all the 3D stuff are fast TN panels (blech!).

  • QSatuQSatu Member UncommonPosts: 1,796

If it's the same 3d as in movies then it sucks. I hate that now I have to search for cinemas which show some movies in 2d. 3d seems like another gimmick made to suck more money out of customers. In a few years there will be something "new".

Reading 2D text in a 3D enviroment is my issue with the technology.

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

I have zero interest in 3D personally. I have been reading about health issues due to prolonged use...no thanks.

Same here. Plus majority of 3D tv's are large and I for some reason cannot play games on large tv's. I'll have to sit on the other side of the room SRS. My brother is like WTH is wrong with you. I prefer smaller tvs for some reason.

That's your opinion and mine clearly is the oposite, so I don't get the whole point of this thread.
