...or is this game getting exponentially better? I was very skeptical at the start as SoE obviously doesn't have a good track record, but if you look at how many improvements they have implemented in the last month alone, not to mention how many are coming in upcoming patches, it's astonishing. From the more solo friendly exp, the obvious optimizations they have made ( it runs 10x smoother for me now than it did at launch), to the new armor models and dynamic group events. I don't want to get my hopes up, but maybe SoE finally has some intention of doing it right? Or, they just know that they have some real competition in WoW so they are doing smart buisness. You decide.
As a side note: Yes, I know adding a PvP server would be "doing it right", but EQ was never about PvP, really. Although, I did have some fun experiences on Tallon Zek in EQ1 ( team pvp for teh win!)

Are you going to add to the topic? Or just critic people?
Think main problem was/is that they compare EQ2 to WoW and the old EQ.
I played EQ2 beta and have to say I wasn't stunned and the lag was just horrible, ofcourse they did improve this later on.
If I look now at the official WoW boards I'm just amazed that so many people are already bitching at Blizzard for the lack of updates, events and new items/quests.
Seems they have such a hard time balancing the servers that they don't want or don't have time to add new content.
Think in a year EQ2 is probly better then WoW and a lot of younger people get bored with WoW and either switch to EQ2 or just quit playing MMORPG's.
The timing of EQ2 was just bad and if they moved the retail till april they would've gotten more attention then they did now.
LOL like I predicted , sifa people hate it when you tell them ways to make people read their posts easier. Not like I am saying grammer or spelling correction.Just make the post readable and there is an edit button you know.
Honestly,I can't add to your comments because its so hard to read .
But on the other hand I can comment on liquid's post since its easily readable.
So friendly advise but hey up to you.
I think EQ2 is updating the game at a good pace.If they keep it up they can hold on to customers much longer.
WoW has plans too (battlegrounds) just that they are focusing on their server stability atm as liquid has said.Hopefully once they have this sorted they can start giving out regular content too.
Both games have a lot of hype behind them hence both of them having hundreds of thousands of customers.
I am sure many will migrate both ways to try this games out when bored with one of them.
Personally,I own both(waiting on WoW euro launch this friday).
I like the EQ2 changes and it has encouraged me to keep playing.
As for WoW if the battlegrounds are as good as promised I think they will hold on to most customers for a while too .
IT's true, Eq2 is getting better with each week, and we haven'T got any expansions yet, their suppose to be 2 per years, that's gonna rock.
All you said just make me happy, It's was about time some people begin to tell the truth,
March will be an interesting time when the first adventure pack is released. It would be interesting to find out whether future expansoins, I think they will be inevitable, would raise the level cap.
Crafting and tradeskills were obviously rushed in the last minute, I think they need to sort crafting out more, before they add more tiers to it.
Like you hercules I own both EQ2 and am wating for WoW Euro. I hope there is nowhere near as much fiasco with servers as there was with Runnyeye to Splitpaw transfers.
Hopefully the mid afternoon 1-hour downtime won't happen.
Events: haven't heard anything about these although there is something to do with lights in the forest and scrying stones.
I actually found a "light in the forest" and I had bought a scrying stone. When I used it a zombie spawned, I killed it..nothing. So not quite sure what's that about.
Anyway it seems that frogloks won't be released any time soon, but again that could be a good server wide event.
(for WoW) Apparently the final beta (Euro) event was hilarous and everyone got wiped out by juggarnauts(sp?)
Some of the quests are very very good in EQ2, but I don't like the fact that some instances require ALL party members to have completed the quest.
Take stilletos order, one of the mree sort after items, kudos to soe for changing it to a monster drop instead of a chest drop, which means that anyone (provided you can kill stilleto of course) has access to the quest.
One major improvement I'd like to see is more work done on the Freeport, it is obvious that more work has gone into Qeynos side there is a definite bias there, e.g. that sword in stormhold...
But soe have a very strong development team behind it and there seems to be patches (server-side too) every day.
One thing that will disappoint me about WoW and has already done so for those currently playing is the absence of the honour system. To me and many others that is a big oversight, it will add a LOT to WoW and who exactly you PvP.
There is already loads to do in EQ2 (Im nearly a lvl 30 troubador), vitality has added a lot to how you manage what you do (since I craft as well). There is Zek access quest to do, some very in depth heritage quests (e.g. Journey is half the fun) there are hidden places in Thundering steppes now that are new instances, watcher of the field quests to do, they are a lot of fun to do too. These are just to the obvious quests, there are plenty of hidden ones too triggered by examining world objects, like a certain book or a sword or a stone or a dropped item, Im quite amazed sometimes when people say they are bored with EQ2 when there are just soo much to do!
So yes it can only get even better!
If they ever get to the point of:
If they do these things, I might want to come back. But for now, gameplay is a downer and the game world is a downer. Someone "threw out the baby with the bathwater" on the design of this game.

The thing about EQ2 is its made by the same people as EQ1 and based on EQ1, they know how to hook people for long periods of time. I don't need any crap about WoW upgrading, people buy a game and play it and don't want to admit that THEIR game isn't the best, everyone wants theres to be the best and it just depends on some stupid impression that made them start playing in the first place. Thats all WoW is, a stupid impression for the easily amused. Unfortunately, amusement doesn't come so easy for me so I'll have to stay with EQ2.
The thing about people who play MMORPG's is that they feel inadequate in some way, maybe you don't make enough money, or you are bad looking, or you are just plain lazy. Maybe your life isn't exciting enough, so you play a game for any number of reasons. Several universities have done research on the MMORPG addiction including mine (Johns Hopkins).
Overall, you should know that you will never come to a conclusion and part of the reason you are playing an MMORPG is because you want to feel better about your crappy life and you want to be a character that is important, that puts you on top. But you can't do that unless the game in which your character exists is the "top" game or "best" game. This was easily accomplished with EQ, which was always on top but, in this circumstance, many people are grasping for which game will end up on top in the end.
THis game will be EQ2 simply because WoW is too easy. Its been out for like 2 months, of course retarded MMORPG people will think its fun and want to tell me about it. The thing about EQ2 is, it will be fun for high levels as EQ was and WoW will not be. Plain and simple. Simply games are fun for a while, but MMORPG addicts like yourselves will need your EQ2 fix once WoW starts sucking. MArk my words, this will happen.
Please reply to this, one thing about MMORPG people (and we most certainly are stereotypical) is that we hate people stereotypical, so we go around trying to be correct and the smart person that is unique and has the special "good" plan for which MMORPG he is playing and why. To get a little Fight Club on you, you aren't special, your opinion doesn't mean shit, and the only reason I read these retarded things at this point is because I'm waiting on a new computer.
So go ahead and quote me. Show where I have contradicted myself or where I have said something wrong in order to defend your sad delusion that you have a valid opinion or that your opinion is your own. After all, thats all you are good for.

I agree that EQ2 is misjudged, but if you really think that WoW is headed downhill, you most certainly have another thing coming to you. As even you said, its only been out for two months. Blizzard ALWAYS changes their games drastically. The reason I quit EQ2 is I felt it was lacking, and im sure about 98% of all the user will agree with me. I see your point, but you are WAY underestimating WoW.
I agree completely that EQ2 has been improving. Even since just chistmas they have added a lot of things to make the game dramatically better than it already was. I find I'm liking it more and more after each big patch.
As for WoW, anyone who says its a bad game or for kiddies, or that it has no high end content is just being ignorant. WoW is a fantastic game, one of the best out IMO. It's not for everyone but no game is. Also, even though I subscribe to EQ2 and not WoW (hoping to subscribe to both soon) there are things I like more about WoW, and vice versa. WoW actually has MORE high-end content then EQ2 in some ways because of PvP.

35 Ranger / 35 Weaponsmith here. I have been in since day one and I just came back from a 2week break while we were moving house.
Its not just you. I was amazed by the improvements in just 2 short weeks to all sorts of things both cosmetic and systems based. I continue to enjoy EQ2 a LOT and if the games keeps heading in the direction it is on now I will be playing for quite some time

I'm actually happy that WoW is so good. This kind of competition really helps the MMO market. I will continue to play EQ2, as I like its universe far more than WoW's, but I hope that they both grow immensly off of their need to compete with each other. WoW will not die, as Blizzards games always remain highly populated ( and the ones i'm speaking of aren't even technically mmo's), and blizzard is consistant in its desire to publish a good product.
