I've been waiting for a while for GW2, I retired from GW a while back and tbh I tried a few MMOs but didn't quite enjoy any of them enough to continue playing after the free 30 trial.
Since there hasn't been a relase date announced yet, a good guess would be that the game won't be out till a good few months have passed. So I decided to read a few some reviews on SWTOR and they seemed pretty good, I mean tbh £40 for the game and a £9p/m sub is quite hefty compared to the policy of no subs on the GW games. But yea, I'm going to be playing SWTOR till GW2 comes out, is there anyone else in the same boat as me? Oh and btw I am quite enjoying SWTOR so far.

For the last couple of years (actually 3) i nearly bought and played every mmo that's out, just because GW2 isnt out. By the way i wasn't alone in that process, me and my guild from GW1 were always together. Now that you meantion it i realized that Anet did a great favor to other companies :P. But SWTOR we really thought it could have something special, but after playing it in Beta and seeing my friends playing after launch, i decided not to buy it. Some of our guild members did buy the game though. But still that's only because they are kiiling time till GW2.
I've been looking forward to SWTOR for a long time, if not longer than GW2... however, I'm absolutely sick of old hat design and aside from some GREAT new features (which GW2 seems to also more or less have), that's exactly what TOR feels like to me. So, I'm not subbing.
The only MMORPG's I'm interested in now are TSW/GW2 - both of which really challenge tradition in a good way, imho.
I don't think I'll ever get another MMORPG that uses the 'classic' mmo design philosophies.
BOYCOTTING EA / ORIGIN going forward.
I have tried a great many mmos, but SWTOR is not going to be one of them. Once I saw the design approach Bioware was taking, I lost interest.
GW2 is at least attempting to make widespead changes in GW2. No more quest hubs, replaced with both dynamics events in the world, and your personal story area. Couple that with the fact that there isn't a hard and fast trinity system, just makes GW2 more appealing.
B2P will make the game even more successful, since they won't be in direct competition for your monthly dollar.
TOR is the same old bs. GW2 and Archeage are the only MMOs to be released soonish that look like anything unique. Fingers crossed.
"I play Tera for the gameplay"
I decided to pass on SWTOR because it didn't appeal to me after watching the videos on it and reading about the game play. Rift is currently occupying my time until GW2's relase though. It does have an element of dynamic content to it so that's about as close as I'm going to get to GW2 for now, but I have no intention of playing it once open beta for GW2 starts.
I played the beta. It's not for me.
I'm glad I got the chance, though. I learned a lot about the effects the game's structure has on players.

Archage will crash and burn not because it is bad, but because most people playing MMO's right can barely handle TOR or Rift graphics much less a game based on the Crysis engine. It is sad, but true
GW2 is gaining mythical status now considering it is 2012 and we expected some more news by now. Remember they said beta testing by end of December..they left out the past about beta testing for family members.
No could mean
a) No, i love SWTOR and would have bought the game anyhow, even if GW2 would have released prior.
b) No, i will not play SWTOR.
Best MMO experiences : EQ(PvE), DAoC(PvP), WoW(total package) LOTRO (worldfeel) GW2 (Artstyle and animations and worlddesign) SWTOR (Story immersion) TSW (story) ESO (character advancement)
Read it again, given the poll question it means:
a) No, i got SWTOR and it has nothing to do with the GW2 release.
There is no option for your b), people who didn't get swtor are not asked to vote.
Bought it and immediately regretted it. The big selling point is the voice overs and they are horrible. The dialogue is pathetic, and the menu option choices for my dialogue dont correspond very well to what my character ends up saying. The graphics seem cartoony. The combat seems simplistic. Every time I play I want to cancel account, but my first month is free so I dont.
Unfortunately, a lot of people answer polls without reading the post.. Also, lot of people answer polls, just to see the results, or because they feel compelled to, so there should always be an answer for them.
When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.
I don't think that Cryengine 2 has as ridiculous system requirements as you seem to think it does...
Crysis, the first game using Cryengine 2, came out in 2007, that's 5 years ago. People with "mid-grade" 2012 PCs should be able to run a Cryengine 2 game fine, and maybe even low-end PCs will be able to limp along with it.
Are you team Azeroth, team Tyria, or team Jacob?
a) No, i got SWTOR and it has nothing to do with the GW2 release.

No, Bachus is right. I did not buy SWTOR, therefore the statement "I bought SWTOR because GW2 still isn't out," is false.

Same
You can still login after you cancel though, at least until your free month is up.
I played the beta until level 3 and was disgusted at what it turned out to be. Decided to buy it anyway to fill the MMO void for a few months, but couldn't get past a few days. Leveled a Jedi Counselar until level 18 and the story was uninteresting. Switched to a Smuggler until level 23 at which point that story too became uninteresting. Then moved to a Sith Warrior and realized I was skipping all the sidequest dialogues as they were nothing but excuses to collect X items anyway, and none of my options affected the outcome of the dialogue. Then moved on to PvP and was equally disappointed. Cancelled my account and here I am, on the waiting bench again.
So yeah, I bought SWTOR as a next-best thing. Unfortunately it didnt work out for me.
Not only that, but Archage is actually porting over to Cryengine 3 before release, which is even better optimized.
I was going to buy SWTOR no matter what. I knew what the game would be, I knew how it would play and understood that it wouldn't keep my attention more than a few months. I had to ask myself, is $60 bucks worth 2-3 months of entertainment? Yes.
Now for current events. I've already cancelled my sub for SWTOR. The part that was supposed to keep me entertained for months (Individual class quests, with voice dialog/cut scenes), has already fallen short. After you run through one all the way to 50, you really have no interest in doing it again, it seems. It becomes more of an annoyance. Not to mention that some of the story lines for certain classes is.. well.. Shallow and dull. (cough*smuggler*cough) Thankfully I went with Sith warrior for my first story, which most will tell you is prob the best storyline in game. The rest of the game is what I expected. There is no reason to play this game for PVP, Raids, Grouping, etc, as there are plenty of games out there that do it 100 times better. I think I would have liked SWTOR if they just made it a single player game. Then i wouldn't have to deal with ability lag, Fps issues, endless bugs, etc, etc, etc.
GW2 is kind of my last hope for the year, although I already have my complaints about it. We will see when it gets released. Either way, I try to support the production of MMORPG's as it pumps more fuel into the gaming world. So I would have purchased both regardless.
Ye that was the last point on the line for me. When testing the game and saw how stupid the dialogues were, it was just too much to handle because i honestly think the overall game is pretty pathetic, but the dialogue quality was like the cheer on the cake, i remember quiet well i wanted to face palm all the time. And since i was playing Skyrim which already have some legendary sentences in gaming and really have great dialogues (my opinion), as funny as accurate to the game, the choice wasn't hard to made.
I never trash a game without playing..ever. Once i get my hands on GW2 and TSW i will get plenty of things to trash and i won't be the only one.
*evil grin*

I got it to hold me over for a while. I don't regret the purchase, as it is a decent game and it truly succeeds at what it's meant to be (a Star Wars themepark MMO with heavy story elements). I do however wish I spent less. $60+$15/month (at least for me) was/is a bit much for something I'm playing as a single player game and only grouping for the occasional heroic quest. I've rolled three characters so far (BH, Inquisitor and a Trooper). I got the Trooper to 10 rerolled. Got the BH to 17, arrived at Balmorra and rerolled. Then rolled an Iquisitor and got to about 15 and almost done on Kaas before I started to get bored. Perhaps I'm just burnt out on it right now. But it has been/is a nice little distraction to help pass the time until games more to my liking come out.

I don't think anyone here planned on trashing Swtor though, not me at least, its pure reaction, beleive me. I had no agenda against this game, in fact i like pretty much both Bioware and SW generally. Its just that this particular game is pretty bad to me.
You and your Sith buddies have fun with that then.
I think I probably would have tried SWTOR if it weren't for GW2. And I would have wandered around between it and WoW and Rift. Now I just can't be bothered to even try it, much less pay for the opportunity.
Charr: Outta my way.
Human: What's your problem?
Charr: Your thin skin.
tried swtor beta..never made it past that :P..so no..i will yust w8 for GW2, no subscriptions from now on!

How does TOR's story compare to other Bioware games, or other story games in general?
The story is the only reason why I might be buying TOR, but it would have to be *really* good. And I'm kinda picky when it comes to stories. Is TOR worth playing only for the story?
My opinion on story games I've played:
Liked: Fallout New Vegas, Portal 2, Mass Effect, oldies like System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Morrowind
Decent: Skyrim, Deus Ex: HR, Kotor 1+2
Disliked: Mass Effect 2, Fallout 3, Oblivion, Bioshock
In case you're wondering why I'm asking this on the GW2 forums - I don't trust dem TOR-fanboys xP
