Amazed at the mountain

I was glancing at those pictures of the moutain that were posted recently.  They are rather nicely done.  The sheer amount of detail that went into that facade in itself is rather nice, bravo.

Though, find it amusing how nicely the old DoL facade textures went into that.  I wonder how many old-school UL players will be wandering the dream trying to find old style textures.  Then agian, UL textures were pretty dern high res for a game of its time, it is not there is anything wrong with its textures.

I thought it was funny that part of the area didn't have textures. The wireframe mountain!!!

I'm presuming that's areas that are a work in progress.

That is what is called a wireframe overlay and can help you decipher features you may not be able to pick out from just a 2d image.

Remember also, these are images from the Alpha, which is not a finished product.  Some of the textures have yet to be updated, and we'll be updating them right through to release.

Well I wasn't expecting any polished product so early on.  I do kind of like those UL textures.  But that's mainly a nostalgia thing.  The thing is, they WORK surprisingly enough.  I went back to the other images and began to look at them closely and low and behold, I found other UL textures.  It is kind of fun, like a game of find the object.  And that's the thing, I didn't notice those outright until I was looking for them.  I noticed the DoL texturing IMMEDIATELY because I got spent a LARGE portion of my UL time as Striker who had gotten all the way up to DoL ruler at one point.  That prompted me to go check the other textures.

So.... I'm not saying anything bad about any textures or any of the such.

I just wanted to point out... i haven't seen that word in use in a long long long long time... he he he it was soo OOC to have the GM's be named after lyra the company, althought it is a wicked name for the GM's. 

ahh this was refreshing, oh yes lets stick to the topic, the screenshot is sweet, but how will everyone feel if they knew Joshua Mandrake woudl rule over DOL!!! :-P

Oh yeah man I agree Totally Lyran was a Far cooler name for them than Elders. Despite it's OOC meaning, I think it had more fearful factor too it, Man watch out or a lyran will get you!
Much more fearful name than Elder.

Lyran is only OOC if you say it is.  It is not like we dreamers are aware of Lyra.

Lyran is such a great name for the powerful ones.  When I first heard it I hadn't put two and two together (I really wasn't paying attention to the company name) and I thought it sounded mysterious and powerful.  Elder, BLEAGH, it is too much medievil rpg for my tastes.  Lyran is a strange station of power, a name that speaks of knowledge and experience.  Greyling was as ancient as hell, he could reasonably be called elder.  In fact you could call the GM's anything and say its IC, the language of the dream is whatever you say the language of the dream is.  If Lyra wishes to have the GM's called "a can of tunafish" so be it, the GM's are cans of tunafish and it would be completely IC.  Honestly, there's bigger IC/OOC fish to fry, such as how the heck do you concieve in the DREAM.

I don't think I've ever seen the people of a company be referred to as a version of the name of the company, such as Lyran.  Would that make John Carmack an idiot?  I kid, I don't seriously think of Mr. Carmack as such, but I HAD to bring up that pun!

Yeah, in fact a lot of my character still call "elders" Lyrans.

Lyran sounds sweet, but elder != cool

Lyran does sound way sweeter. I just don't see myself being bery afraid of someone called and Elder. That makes them sound crippled and in the process of going stupid.

Heh, EXACTLY sniper!

Not to mention Striker was called an elder once.  Not directly, but you know those annoying mission titles!  "Elder of the house, my efforts to complete your goal!"  UGH!  I hated those,  Lyra, if you are reading this, do NOT include that in reclamation, please!  I'll give you a cookie if you follow through on my advice here.

Anywho, Striker logs on to the Mission boards and I think he was a ruler at the time.  He sees a report titled, "Elder of the house, My efforts to complete yoru goal!"  he responds to the mission with a large report which condensed would read to the likes of, "I am 20, do I LOOK old.  Do I seem elder in any way shape or form?  Do I seem feeble to you?  is my hair graying?"  Guy responded saying he just put down a default response.  To which Striker told him to never call him old agian.  It was amusing.

Has sniper ever been called an elder?

Though yes, that's the other thing about elder, its so damn vague.  With Lyran you KNOW they are a being of power with a mysterious name and past and abilities. They are surrounded by mystery!  With elder, well.... anyone can be old.
