Swtor has a bug where lucky, seemingly random computers cannot patch the game. It will redownload forever. A possible work around
Is to use another comp, hope it doesnt have the same issue, and transfer the game files over. Note you have to do this every patch, and it can become quite infuriating.
Bioware has not only failed to fix this, but has deleted threads and posts with work arounds like the one above. I would highly recommend not buying a game in this condition, with this level of CS from a major gaming corp. If they fix it soon I may likely resubscribe but until then, no way.
It is a shame. While not radically different or innovative, swtor does an excellent job of RP through quest and dialog. While most recent MMOs have been lax on content, their nuts and bolts (game engines, graphics, ruleset and meta game) have been solid. Swtor is the opposite. The content is fun and immersive, the storyline is enjoyable; but the bones of the game are weak and brittle. A terrible engine, sloppy or missing features that have been MMO staples for years drag the experience down.
All said, assuming this bug is fixed of course, this game is a must purchase for star wars fans. For the rest of us. Leveling up a character or 2 could a fun break from another MMO I need not name. If you like rp and questing it would be worth your time.
Fix the patch error Bioware, and save the galaxy before you let a decent game go down the tubes.

Your welcome. Your ISP sucks like mine
im having no patch error. i have patched this game over and over and never had one issue neither has my gf. its not effeting everyone.
i havent had one issue with patching this game, i dont know about others but me personally ive been able tp patch the game no issue.
Something like this got past Closed beta let Alone lingers over 2 weeks past release
Didnt hear about this one. Nope and I dont have it. Hope its resolved soon, this game is just awesome! Alot of companies could learn from this game! Nice gfx, incredible admosphere, cool gameplay, smooth working, just incredible! Been playing since 16 december and im totally hooked!
Try Kalinis' fix. It worked for another guy.
Mine sort of righted itself as I let it download and it actually didn't download everything. But I didn't know of his fix, which again, seems to work.
There is a little downloading involved as it reapplies the patch but as I said, it worked for another guy.

The graphics are good but overtaxing on the system. Vanguard had the same problem. I expect performance to improve.
Now where we can agree is atmosphere and gameplay. The gameplay is as solid as I have seen anywhere else
But the atmosphere is incredible, probably he biggest selling point of the game. I'm not really a huge star wars fan but I love the story and interaction in the game. There are places where they could do more, but it is still impressive and highly addictve. For anyone who is an avid star wars fan questing should be an epic joygasm.
This was something that was in beta, didn't they fix this yet? and i have a crappy ISP too, but STO, WoW, LOTRO, DDO none of them have this issue, it's definitely NOT the ISP.
You can always copy the patch files from a friend who has the game; however, this issue still being around is stupid.
There was one build that had patching problems I heard about, but it was quickly fixed.
I don't know of anyone having patching problems now or since release.
Sorry, but there's something about your machine that isn't getting along with something in SWTOR. Unfortunately, testing will never find everything before release, it's a fact of life. With hundreds of thousands of users and just as many unique configurations of hardware and software, there's always unknown variables that have to be dealt with later. At least with software it's easier to fix than hardware issues, just ask any car company.
Ok, here's something to try, if you know how. Get a vanilla boot. Maybe install windows, graphics drivers, ethernet drivers if needed, SWTOR, and nothing else on an otherwise empty hard drive and test it. Yeah, that's going to require a tools and messing with the hardware, but it will also help determine if the issue is with the other software in your box, or it's choking on something specific with the hardware.(Ok, there's other stuff you can do if you have the tools and know how, but you'd be amazed how often something simple like this works. ) If you don't have the skills to pull this off, and I admit it is something extreme for people afraid to tinker with their box, but it has a high probability of pointing out what direction to go.
As to graphics, I was running at horrible fps with graphics way down. I switched windows to 64bit and can now use all 8gb of my memory, and that sucker just flies with graphics maxed. So, if you're on 32 bit windows, or have less than 4gb ram, that might be the performance problems.
Yes, I have no idea if this stuff will help anybody, but I hope it does, because it sucks when you can't play a great game. Been there many times since I'm one of those usually nailed with bizzare wtf stuff.
Just a small example of the stuff I've seen, in the beta for Anarchy Online, I was never able to exit the room I started in. (They've since fixed that and changed starting locations.)
Lost my mind, now trying to lose yours...
My machine is almost new, so there isn't much to interfere. Ironically it is the older machine that patches. Besides that, any game that would require you to do a fresh OS install is garbage. Testing cant get everything, but it should have caught this. I've never even seen this in a beta before. I'm friends with quite a few devs and tool developers for another popular MMO, and they would never let something like this even get past beta. Complete QA failure on their part, and not a good sign for what we can expect for future patches. Hopefully they get their act together soon.
And here I thought another boot.ini overwrite patch (remember eve). Just a benign bug, they should provide with a manual patch d/l link.
