just posted this in another thread, but figured it's on topic here.
checkin server status right now.
1 server full with a queue of 202. 2 servers high pop. 10 medium pop. 14 are low pop. 11 of the 14 are the servers being moved to trial status, so that leaves 3 that are low pop. so 16 servers right now after the trail shard change up.
I bet these server hold 3-3.5k before hitting a queue. I know for sure I was on Wolfsbane and got out of there when I saw this coming and there were a freaking hell of a lot of people there even before this trial deal. I'll call it 90-100k in the NA shards.
I am also unsure of how many people actually deactivated their Rift account because during TOR 8 hour maintenance Rift actuallys picks up lol

This is untrue, the population cap has always been 2000 for Rift servers. If a server is light, it has less than 350-400 online (unless they tweaked the status categories again)
God wish people would stop talking about numbers guess what? The only ones who should and therefore know them are Trion Worlds and some of their partners.
The game is what it is it started well but thanks to forum crybabies it developed into something it shouldn't so people left.
We need a MMORPG Cataclysm asap, finish the dark age of MMORPGS now!
"Everything you're bitching about is wrong. People don't have the time to invest in corpse runs, impossible zones, or long winded quests. Sometimes, they just want to pop on and play." "Then maybe MMORPGs aren't for you."

Proof please? Are you a Trion Employee?
I rmember launch when all severs had queue's as large as 5000, and openeing just a few more got most people in, so only 2k a server - wouldnt they have needed like 30+ more server is you are right!

i was under the impression if each server is tweaked they can hold about 9k each...i dont think there are that many on each ..but none of our guild left for Tor...most if not all our guild are very happy..there was a couple wanting to try Tor but they are waiting for a free trial.

Still we will proably never know, but we do know they have the most advanced server tech on the market thats build for the future.

Various people have been doing ingame player counts, hence they found out about that stuff. But if someone wants to go through the trouble of doing their own checks, I guess it's pretty easy to do their own checks to see if those values still hold true. Not that hard, I think.
We're talking about concurrent users ingame here, of course, not of the total number of players that are associated to a server. Those are usually estimated to be 4-5 times the amount of players that show up ingame during peak times.

I have never found the /who to work. As even last night in Ember, I physically counted well over 90 people standing around waiting for the boss to fly into position (and this doesnt even countt he other players actually doing the questing pasrts of the invasion)
the /who showed 25.... And even omitted 1 of my guild members who was on th isle.

Well, I guess a number of people did get it to work, because they were reporting player cap fairly consistently with eachother: at first the player cap was 1500, and later on it became 2000 for a server.

Regardless of how many it is, whats levels are low/med/high,as it can't be officially proven; as long as there is enough to quest and raid, who cares, I can't play with 1000+ at once!

Yeah, I wished the cities in Rift were a bit more vast and interesting, like this one, because the cities are pretty much where all the lvl 50s hang out and yet they are both so small and featureless. Heck, they could even add a basement to the Sanctum and stick a mini-game down there or something.
I don't want multiple cities that big because you end up with more people afk'n then in the open world. GW2 is built on that and they need to accomplish what Rift is trying to do.
I feel like I am playign a mmo when we are ina big group going after something. Rift just gave me that feeling in Ember where the raids for defiant and guardian where all going after the same goal like 100 people just rushing around.
Anyways that video is just sex and B2P that game is beyond dangerous and you are fool to not think it will just wtfpwn the market.
Well at least the cities serve a purpose, as a place for the personal story, a place for RP'ers to RP and a place to enjoy some side activities, like mini games. So they won't just the huge areas for people to AFK in and who even knows if the game would ever have a dungeon queuing system like Rift's cause it doesn't have a PvP queuing system, like all these other themepark games.
But I do agree with you that Ember Isle is just fun, because the events are rewarding enough to get all the level 50s, who aren't AFK queuing, in there and working together and that's what I enjoy the most about MMOs... having fun with other players.
I feel in every Sub MMORPG i have played, RIFT is the only one that I feel I am getting my money's worth. More people should try it, and if there are a few bits you are not keen on, feel are lacking or shouldnt be there - let Trion know and they WILL look into it very quickly.

I just canceled my swtor account and I gonna give rift a shot. I played it when it first came out but went back to lotro. Now that lotro is awful I will be giving my full attention to rift. After playing swtor it is nice to have a UI that works
ps I liked swtor but got bored on all my toons after lvl 25 or so and I MUCH prefer fantasy setting over sci-fi

This game deserves much more credit.
Granted, its not a masterpiece but its a solid , well made mmo. Plus trion its doing a good job with new content and stuff.
Atm I am thinking of resubbing for 3 motnhs (one more 4 free)
