Just shows you that p2p is becoming less and less popular. Amazing game too, hopefully new players are attracted to the price decrease for multi month subscriptions. Eitherway, I just hope p2p games don't all go completely out.

Just goes to show that Rift is feeling the hurt  a lot lately, and this is a marketing ploy to bring more people in.  Fine by me, but the game itself is just TOO small and TOO similar to WoW to keep me playing for any longer than a month at a time.  They were fine up until SWTOR launched and now I am so engrossed in that game I barely blink at Rift news.

So RIFT is a WoW clone and SWTOR isnt? Are you kidding? SWTOR is more of WoW than WoW itself...

Not me, I'm waiting for SWTOR II (the Hi rez reviewers version) to be released soon. That's gonna put Rift to shame :)

lol swtor is much less of a WoW clone then Rift is.. rift even has the exact same interface as WoW even swtor didnt copy WoW that much...

Based on prior BW production, would 2019 be too soon an expectation? :)

Honeslty, last night a few of my gaming group were talking about going back to rift(ex swtor players now). I think you may see an influx back to rift, so there timing seems right to do something now to get people in the game.

Rift is more WoW like than SWTOR, and I just mentioned the WoW clone factor as a passing point not a main one.  Don't get all on your high horse because you hate WoW.  I love WoW but I love SWTOR more BECAUSE it has story.  Which is what makes it less like WoW than any WoW clone out there.

The reverse is actually true. I've seen chart after chart at MMO conferences now showing that the "Free to Play" fad is dieing fairly quickly. People have realized the low quality products that the "Free to Play" market produces.

Those games are NOT F2P, they are Hybrid models! People still can subscribe and get full access to the game without spending anything extra!

HUGE difference compared to the "real" F2P games that are pure crap and a hell lot more expensive than the average P2P MMO, because of their horrible overpriced cash shops.

I am so tempted by this offer, but I barely have time for the one MMO I have going on now. Shame, Rift is a fun MMO...

Trion really does seem to be one of the "nicer" game companies out there right now.

Playing MUDs and MMOs since 1994.

Rifts quests are more cookie cutter then any game I have played and unfortunately its setting the wrong kind of standard. You don't have to agree that's just my thoughts

I think they're calling GW2 B2P (buy to play) to distinguish it from games that you pay nothing whatsoever to play.

Rift has done well here too, yes the majority of questing is the normal line of quests, but it makes up only a small part of what there is to do in the game, other games tend to have this being 99% of content!

It's not some despiration move like some are suggesting.  Rift is alive and well and besides they didn't change much.  Only the cost of an annual sub went down.  The rest stayed the same.  The only thing new is the free month.
