It's a fact.
WoWs PvP aspect has failed and thousands of people are flocking to other older MMOs for their PvP fix. Some for Planetside, some for DAOC and some just hungering for Guild Wars!
The time is now for SOE to strike. I know many people want to try to give EQ2 a shot because of stuff like player housing, crafting and stuff, but PvP really hurts for people who love that style of gaming.
Do you think they will add it soon? Don't you think it is the right time?
Even SWG is seriously getting PvP overhouls into its game, and we all know that if SWG is improving it must be snowing in africa!
I just think that EQ2 has a strategic possibility of getting allot of ground if they start working on pvp soon!
What do you think?
What kind of PvP should it be? Just duel/arena type PvP? Maybe instanced pvp? or big raiding pvp? free for all pvp?

WoWs pvp failed?
Personally, I dont care about PvP, but it wouldnt bother me to see them put some in to make the PvPers happy.
My guess is that it will happen eventually. I think the game is clearly structured with RvR in mind, even though SOE wont say anything. But when an NPC asks me if I will be ready when the time comes, I think the writing is on the wall. I am guessing that a day will come when we are all going to log in and be told that the cold war between the good and evil sides has suddenly turned hot. Actually, despite my indifference to PvP generally, that might be cool as hell.
Honestly though, I dont see this happening soon. The EQ audience is primarily PvE and I am going to guess they will focus heavily on that before they start up with PvP. But then, they have been pouring in PvE content at an astounding pace, and theres an expansion due fairly soon, so who knows.
It seems that city "sabotage" missions are on the test server. Could that be an early warning sign?
EQ2 should have a persistant war between Qeynos and Freeport like PLanetside is a persistant war.
Then I wont be so pissed about spending 50$ and getting ALL Access on this boring game.
I seriously doubt EQ2 will have PvP any time soon, some classes are soo unbalanced.
Take necro's for example. they could easily kill you with their pet and certain spells will have treble dmg next patch.
also next patch, sabotage quests will be given by agents of each city, so that's something
Well you would have to be pretty crazy to setup such a perfect PvP scenario as Freeport Vs Qeynos then not use it. Its obvious (to me at least) that they plan to bring it in one way or another, I have been saying the same thing since day 1. Now we see a small taste of the things that will no dount come with the city sabotage missions listed on the test server. I have no doubt this will evolve into PvP.
My prediction would be that they will go a similar way to DAoC with zone based PvP conflicts. I would imagine a set of areas with some sort of victory point regions like castles or somthing where FP and Q players battle it out for control of the areas in order to gain some sort of advantage for their city. This provides the best of both worlds. Those of us that love PvP but can live without it can go indulge in a zone where we know "its awwwn" and those that dont, can stay out and enjoy the PvE. It all makes way too much sense not to happen.
I would be truly stunned if EQ2 never has PvP. All the building blocks are in place, its just a matter of time.

Where did you get this so called fact from?
Implementing PvP would take a lot of time but I believe developers will eventually want to do it. Just look at WoW - PvP didn't even have a chance to fail since it isn't in yet . Blizzard managed to balacne classes so far and their famous Batlegrounds won't be in game for months.
PvP in EQ2 will come in/after expansion since it's a lot of work to do. And I dont mean just setting server with FFA PvP, there needs to be meaning to this. Freeport vs Qeynos seems natural choice since it will go nicely with sotryline. So i believe it's at least a year before some first signs of PvP in this game.
I agree that WoW's PvP has failed, but it was designed to fail on certain levels.
Any PvP that does not allow looting an item, ANY single item from an opponent, is not real PvP.
WoW still has not instituted their honor/fame rewards sytem for PvP, so hard to judge how that aspect will play out, but realistic PvP requires both gain and loss. It's all fine and good to have a fame/reward system for winning in PvP, but if the loser sacrifices nothing, where is the risk?

I disagree, the reason why half of the WoW population is on PvP servers is that there is no real penalty for dieing. PvP just for fun, not ruining others, otherwise PvP severs would be in minority like in most MMO's. But if they won't introduce some reward system people will just leave. When (if) they fully implement their PvP they are going to reward those who were better, not punish directly those who were worse. That approach is more fun and it's not any news that Blizzard isn't catering to uber-hardcore-freak-PK crowd, just casuals who want pure fun.
EQ2 PvP system could be implemented in a similar way, but SOE developers like things more complex so i have no idea what would they come up with. Since there are more hardcore palyers in EQ2, PvP with harsh penalties is rather possible.

Status of some sort is always good. In the same way that you can have the title "Hunter of Gnolls" etc it would be so cool to have "Hunter of Gnomes"
Btw if that title existed Id already have it

how has it failed?
I strongly agree Amatay. I would have loved the /duel command so many times when rude people ninja my resource nodes and generally make themselves candidates for a good swatting.

they should make a kind of war feature where u can like join the army of qeynos/freeport,get soldier pay(like a salary)and in exchange when the city wants to send soldiers to,say raid the zones of freeport, kinda like a regular raid, except the soldiers of freeport would be called out to defend.only problem is that u being a soldier might be a vry long ways away when an attack happens.but it seems like it would be alot of fun
Invincible thats a GREAT idea!!
Someone send this man a job application for SOE.
I really like it

PvP will seriously affect the qeust system, for the better. Like I said, I am not impressed with the quests, but if they aply PvP then u might get quests with a real good reason to complete.
i think it will be added, fairly soon. john smedley, and some others have hinted at it in the producers letter, and some Q&A's. i couldnt tell you when, but unless they are just playing tricks , it surely sounds like they will, and in thier own words "it will be nothing like what you have experienced before". i may be wrong, but oh well im not really big on PvP anyways.
All I have to say is, "Do we really want to ruin this game?"
I agree that we should be able to duel eachother, like when we're bored or waiting for something to spawn, but I doubt they will ever implement, nor BALANCE full out pvp.

P.S. how did WoW pvp fail?
I think Invincible has an AWESOME idea there! That could become a great RPing opportunity!
I don't play EQ2 yet, but I plan to start in March after my FFXI account expires. One thing that does disappoint me is that there isn't any form of PvP in the game, but the storyline makes it a necessity. Personally, I hate open PvP as it just invites griefers to destroy other players gaming experience, but some RvR or even GvG would fit perfectly in EQ2. Without some sort of PvP, the devs may just as well rewrite the storyline because the the whole good v evil thing would be pointless otherwise.
It's definitely designed to be casual-friendly, I agree, but for a different reason: namely, if you have a real death penalty in PvP (ie, you lose your stuff and are lootable), casuals would stay away from it in droves, and Blizzard didn't want that. So you have "PvP with no point" in the sense that it is a sidelight in the game and not a career path. As a result, many of the folks who really like PvP (I'm not a PvP fan myself actually) are quite disappointed with WoW's PvP system because they cannot make a career out of PKing. That's casual friendly, but not really PvP-friendly from the perspective of those gamers who really like PKing as a career path (as was possible in UO, is possible today in EVE Online, etc.).
I think that there are so many PvP servers in WoW because of all the PvP from Blizzard's previous games. I've met numerous people in WoW who said they specifically came to the game because of PvP and Blizzard's history with that, and who thought that the PvE game was simply a means to an end to generate a higher level character and be uber at PvP. Many of them are now disapppointed with the game because after so much PvPing it becomes really, really boring because there is no skin in the game.
That was never slated in the design, so you bought the game knowing it didnt have it just so you could be pissed? Smart move.

Just to let you guys know the pvp system hasn't been implemented yet in WoW. They said they were going too complete Battlegrounds(instanced) then look into the pvp reward system.
PvP rox - they really need it to make a more exciting game.
The best type, in my opinion, is to have it that on certain maps you can kill each other, but there are some "safe" maps (like the one n00bs start on).
