Casual PvP?

KoujoKoujo Member Posts: 18

I played EVE for a few months and actually liked the game (specifically the mechanics and the sandboxish feel) but ultimately quit when I could not find PvP within a couple of hours playtime. I had joined a small "PvP School" who took on noobs like me and formed fleets every night to roam nullsec but often came home empty handed.

During that time I also created a second account which I roamed low sec solo as a "wannabe pirate" and again the same story of hours upon hours whasted with no targets even spotted. Eventually when the PvP School disbanded and I grew frustrated at failed attempts and pirating I gave up and un-subbed.

Now as I fiddle with other more casual games I'm finding PvP easy enough but the combat and mechanics seem blatently shallow. So I find myself looking at EVE again and wondering if there are other avenues I could have tried. Maybe FW? Join a null sec corp (if one would take me)? What I'm getting at is there any home in EVE for a guy who wants to log on and within 15 minute find himself slugging it out with other players? Or is it "No casuals need apply" as it seemed to me when I was playing?

PVP in EVE is time consuming. Period.

Factional Warfare or Red vs Blue should help quite a bit...

They are also great starters for new players interested in PVP.

hmmmm, the only pvp I found in EVE was more PvMe and was during mining as an early player. Somehow I was destroyed. I'm not sure how as I thought you couldn't be attacked in noob sec.

So I always thought people found you? Especially I heard that players can scan for other players?

In high security space(security rating +0.5)you either get yourself flagged, usually stealing from other person, or Concord will retaliate against the aggressor.

While high sec empire space is fairly safe from PVP with little awareness required, you still should understand the game mechanics though, particularly criminal flagging and aggression timers.

Without knowing details, I can only guess what happened in your case. You have probably fell to "can flipping" which is a way how to trick another player into getting flagged.

There are several ways to find someone, often quite quickly. As for getting destroyed you either shot a can flipper which lets him fire back, or you were at war and didn't realize it.

To the OP, I'm quite surprised you didn't get much PvP after all that roaming you did. Either you were on at very odd hours or you went into some weird locations that are almost never travelled. If you do try Eve again, here's a tip for lowsec roams: Deep lowsec is usually empty except perhaps for the odd dude in a cloaked hauler dealing with his POS. A very good (and often very dangerous) place to go is on the Lowsec side of a hisec-to-lowsec transfer point, particularly if it's close to one of the major trade hubs. Be very careful going here solo though; there are often other pirates there that wouldn't think twice about frying your ass for the killmail too.

    Where's the any key?

I'm not saying I didn't find ANYONE. I did get chased by dramels a fair bit and saw a few battleships but just about every target was way out of my engagement envelope in a punisher. I guess I just wish it were more like Battlestar Galactica Online where you can just log on and join the zerg. Or maybe I wish Battlestar Galactica Online was more like EvE with truely deep character development and a wide array of ship fittings. I think the one thing that ruined PvP in EVE for me the most is the local channel. If they would get rid of that crutch I might would give it a try again.

If they did, the game would be dead as it would be utterly stupid...

Local channel is very much fine, no issue there.
