So I was playing Half Life 2 Episode 2, ye I never finished it, and I kept noticing this uneasyness in my stomach which reminded me of the time I played the original campaign years ago but at the time I was sick so i though the nausea was mostly because of that. So I played various times in the day and noticed that within 20 minutes I would feel very nauseous and apparently this is motion sickness.
I had heard of it before but never thought games would cause it, hell it never happenned in a decade besides this game so this really intrigued me. Has anyone else ever had something similar to this?

Ype, couldn't play a rifle class in Fallen Earth because the zoom when you fired made me feel ill after about 10 minutes of play. Just couldn't hack it. Tried may times and never got my rifler past about level 15....I don't remember feeling ill playing Half-Life (1 or 2), but just the rifle class in FE made me feel like I did at a screening of the Blair Witch Project (not scared, just queasy).
HL2 , and number of Source games are notorious for causing motion sicknes (especially th ebridge level)
If this happens to you , stop playing emidiately - or it will f you up for whole day.
Its quite unknown what causes this. And its big issue in FPS game development.
Some unlucky people can not play any FPS game without experiencing it.
But , yea. HL2 makes most people sick. So dont worry.
I have a similar problem, but I didn't encounter it with Halflife 2. Dark Messiah and Magic and Guild Wars do it for me though.
Ah, something within my realm of education.
Kinetosis happens when the vesibular dissagrees with what you are seeing. Naturally, it's a common defence against poisons and toxins, hence why it causes people to feel sick. In regards to computer gaming, it's the phantasmagoira of movement conflicting with your inner ear saying you're perfectly still that causes it. Quinessentially, your body presumes you are halluninating
Haha I was just doing the bridge level before I just gave up, got a little further towards the tower but that was it for me. I myself searched this up and apparently quite a lot of people get this and ye HL2 seems to be a common game in regards to nausea.
I still find it pretty funny how it works, your body feeling like it's poisoned. Quite interesting.
Nope, you aren't alone. I get motion sickness too.
I discovered my motion sickness while playing the Halo games by myself. I was fine playing them split screen, but for some reason when playing them on full screen, I got really queezy. I've discovered this happens with other FP games too, mostly shooters which really sucks because that means one less genre I can play. It also happens to me on Minecraft as well when I play FP.
I could take anti motion sickness stuff, but I just deal with it until it's too much for me and quit.
Do you want some cheese with that whine?
Try to adjust or force a FoV - Field of View. Set it to 80-100 and all motion sickness should be gone.
If not, invest more money in a better monitor. You do not know how much you hurt your vision by buying a cheap one.
Also check the lighting in your room. Light should always be installed at the BACK of your monitor. Never infront or from one side. And it should never be too bright or too dark (e.g no light) in your room. Also reflected sunlight can affect/damage the vision/cause motion sickness.
On top of that, eat and drink the amount you need. Especially drink. There is no operating in your brain without fluid.
I first discovered motion sickness on a rainy sunday drive traveling on a curvy.hilly road in upstate New York whilst reading a book in the backseat of the car my mother was driving. She didn't really like the discovery nor did I as it wasn't pleasant cleaning up the vomit that followed said discovery on the side of the road in the rain.
HalfLife 2 gets me as well as do some fps games but other fps games don't its kind of odd how that is.
I hear things like peppermint, spearmint candies etc help.
