I made this thread for those of us who Rift. Not for the people who only glimpsed or played only a little bit and say its trash. Kinda like the majority of the people who post negative commentary in this forum about Rift. As they really dont have a opinion that matters in my view. But this is for us players who play Rift. Who know this game is the best out there currently. Why do you play? Whats your favorite Archetype and your favorite spec in that archetype?
I play Rift because after 8 months the game is still quite fun! Im on my second 50 who is about 90% through the progression I chose for him. My third 50 is going to be a cleric, They seem to be the class of the month. But have to finish my rogue!
My favorite spec is on my rogue. I use 3 roles primarily. My Bard spec, 50 Bard/16 Riftstalker/0 Sabateur. My raid and sometimes pvp dps spec. 51marksman/7 assassin/8 ranger. Then my mess around pve spec which is 10 Bard/24 ranger 32 marksman.
I like all three roles! I have a tank role which I usually just use in Whitefall Steppes to run or tank t1/t2 content.
I have had alot of fun with this character with both pve content and pvp.
If you want to say hi, Im Loony on Wolfsbane!! Make sure to say hello!

With the games sub situation shouldnt the people that played it and didnt like it matter more than those who still play it?
Now the people that played a trial or only got to level 15, I can see those opinions not mattering. But thats the minority of people that post negative commentary.
If you want a post where people post positive things about the game I would suggest not being so negative at the start of your post.
The sub situation? Ohh the one where its in positive territory? Where the numbers are growing not declining like a certain other mmo just released a month ago? That is the first misconception. That Rift is having a sub problem. Which it is not. As Rift is currently growing at a good pace.
Now I do agree with you, perhaps I should not be so negative on the people who post a flamboyant negative position on a game they have barely even played. But then, the position they take up deserves such criticism.
Ddazzle now on Greybriar. love my mage!
i thought i was fairly burnt out on themeparks when this game actually launched. i had been watcin it a bit and thought i'd check out the beta if i ever got an email as i'll try anything once. tried the beta and was blown away at how smooth the game was in this "testing" phase. hit the head start and been subbed ever since.
i do nothing but game all day and i'm in Rift more then any other game. there's always something to do and most of the time i wish i had more time. i spend half my time on the dummy just working on my dps and specs. when i'm not on the dummy it's game on lol. crafting rifts, pvp rifts, daily raid/expert rifts, EI T2 rifts, invasions, onslaught, doin the T2s i have built up, waitin for raid time to hit up a 10 or 20 man, warfronts, instant advantures on my shard are even fun with lots of people, and i even did a chronicle the other day just to try it lol. yesterday i just wrapped up my water epic quest line and got my croc mount (yeah i know.. a lil late). blown away by trion so far. they listen to players, treat us as wanted customers, and give us content at a fast pace. if these guys made a solid sandbox i'd be subbed to X-sandbox and rift and be a happy gamer for all time lol.
So the game went from 58 servers to 16. So how exactly is t a misconception that Rift has had a very large decline in subs over the course of the year? Its plain as day, right in front of our faces. In less than a year they lost more than 2/3rds of their NA servers. Thats 'growing at a good pace?'
And still trying to brush off the negative, valid, criticsm by saying its from people that didnt play the game much. Blind fanboi-ism isnt a healthy thing.
First, yes I am a fan of Rift!
Second, Rift servers from the beginning have never been to full capacity. In fact Trion thought very smart. In case the game did have a mass population. Second, we did lose subs over the holidays due to one, it being the holidays and two SWTOR release. But as of the past two weeks Rift has been growing exponentialy! As far as Rift staatus here is the current as of 10 pm EST
8 medium, 4 high and 1 full. Which is very good considering a month ago server status was half that.
I am not going to argue with you anymore on this subject. Concerning the game I and many others play. Continuation of unfounded negative commentary will be considered trolling. I will report your post to the moderators. If you have anymore issues with what you call my fanboism. Please read this link: http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/game/431/view/forums/thread/305693/READ-FIRST-Notice-of-Increased-Moderation.html
Have a nice day!
All MMOs face this after the "shiney" effect wears off. Don't think for a second that this won't happen to SWTOR. Not saying that the majority of servers will be dead in a month or two time but there will be a significant decrease in player base with some servers merging. This is a standard expectation or should be.
Oh really? You mean on release every available server didn't have a queue due to the amount of people trying to log in? Any other history you'd care to rewrite?
Well I guess the OP is an example of why you play Rift, not why people play Rift. I came in here and wondered that myself becausse the title did make me question why anyone would play Rift tbh. After reading your post I am reminded of a very long list of reasons why me and my closest DON'T play Rift but this isn't the thread for that. Since you like to start off so negatively and then resort to threats I won't act like this is a place for a discussion on the matter. With that being said, your title was misleading, maybe it shoulda been titled "Why do people play Rift?" then follow that up with your reason. I feel really let down now since it will remain a mystery. I get it, you like your rogue.........
RIP Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan and Paul Gray.
While I do agree that starting a thread for positive responses should only generate as such, these forums just never achieve that level of high quality. I would recommend using SomethingAwful forums. They are very good at that. Because of this, I have lowered my expectations having experienced the same feelings you are having, OP.
However I do disagree with thinking that all negativity is flamboyant, if that's what you're saying. Maybe not. If someone simply dislikes something I like or disagrees with me, then I'm not going to call them trolls for giving me their opinion like so many people often do here.
Also, I loved RIFT when I played it. I used to play an assassin and my brother played some sort of cleric. Was great fun. I played it because I enjoyed the graphics, the open world, and the rift MMO gameplay. I would play it even more if leveling took longer or if the end game just only focused on skilless rift fun probably.
The thing about Rift that I find most disappointing- even moreso than the complete soloability by every class all the way to cap- is that it had the potential to be one of the few truly massive MMORPGs out there. Had they focused more on the rifts and invasions rather than instanced content (following WoW's gear grind treadmill for both PvP and PvE) Trion would have had a fantastic, massive, open world endgame. Just remove the ability to close groups and have the mobs scale to the amount of players fighting (either in strength or in number)- it would have been a fantastic game. At best it's a very polished barebones themepark as it is.
Zone events - If you ever want to feel like your playing a mmorpg either do a Rift zone event or go do a 1,000 man raid in Aion during its peak. I know the lag kind of sucks obviously, but the feeling of running with like 100+ people to drop a goal. Only other game I know outside of GW2 offering this is Rift
Just a vid of me taping Earth zone event on Ember

The expectation of new content. I am not stuck gouging my eyes out for 6 months waiting FOR ANYTHING. You know I am spoiled when at 43 days I start to rage. No chance I could go back to WoW
Trion does not seem obsessed with pushing out content that is solely made to drain my pocket. By this time Aion had costume, weapon, and companion cash shop all while charging for server transfers after merging to 4 servers.
It adds stuff into the market. LOTR did this for a bit even with Rift copying some of the games features, but it does not seem there are very many devs with this many people willing to try anything new. I mean I know right now what WoW will look like 3 years from now because it is so predicatble. TOR I get that feeling too.
These guys are throwing Infernal Dawn at us and I get the feeling it will go down just like Hammerknell as one of the best raids created. I do not know many guilds who have not played Hammerknell after the bugs were fixed that do not say it is the most epic feeling raid since Ulduar.
I just returned to Rift after playing at launch for about three months. Kind of funny because I reinstalled it and found out my account was for whatever reason active (not billed) with a return to Rift promotion of some kind.
So I played the 3 days and 6 month subscribed. The kicker is I have a different system than the one I was playing on when Rift was released (see signature for current system) and it looks amazing. My highest character is/was 20-30ish and are the trial server Rasmolov that is closed for active accounts which is cool I re-rolled on Deepwood for (PvE) because Wolfsbane had a que and Seastone for PvP.
I'm thinking I missed alot since release.
I'm currently subscribed. Its one of the few games on the market where you can readily find groups. I like the PvP way more than SWTOR. Oh yea, I love the soul system.
It has problems, and I think they could easily improve on things that would draw in new players. The number one barrier, imo, is that there are not enough gear options 1-49. Its like there really isn't a game from 1-49, and that has to turn people off.
Not 50 yet, but hopefully there is much more of a game at 50 than during the leveling process.
My suggestion is to either make leveling go by a lot faster, or actually insert some type of incentives while leveling. I'm 39, and I'm using level 20ish gear, because there are just no upgrades - or they are just barely upgrades so I don't buy them. Also, Rifts are not worth it, because they ones that give rewards aren't soloable. No one is out there leveling nowadays.
I don't think you're talking about SWTOR because it is still growing. The game has had between 1-1.5M sales in under a month. It is suspected that by March (with subscription losses factored in) the game will reach 2M active subscribers. The game was so popular they had to stop selling the game so they could expand their servers.
Despite this community being very negative towards SWTOR the community is growing, not shrinking. Since they increased server populations pretty massively people are given the impression that it is shrinking... it is not. It's actually getting bigger. I still cannot buy a physical copy from any of my three local Walmarts. It sells out every time it comes in stock.

He's talking about Rift not SWTOR.
Except my negatve commentary is not unfounded and backed up. Everything i have said to you is completely vaid and within the rules of this site.
When you say things like 'Rift servers have never been full to capacity' or 'Rift has been growing exponentially', you are spreadng false information (maybe unknowingly) and it *should* be corrected. Its completely fair to point out that when you close almost half the servers that population will logically rise on the remaining servers.
Stck to the truth, and keep it positive. Your OP was negative in tone in the very first paragraph, and then you responded with further negativity (and misinformation).
