Only because SWTOR has become the new cool thing to hate around here.

I seriously doubt that RIFT has ever had as many players or as much interest as SWTOR has and will continue to have going forward. I personally only got through a few hours of RIFT before uninstalling. SWTOR has had its hooks into me for months (long-time beta tester).

    Wow, hadnt noticed that.

Though the ratings on this site seems somewhat easily manipulated, but yeah, it sure cant be a GOOD sign for SWTOR.

Funny you should say that because as a long time Star Wars fan, i've had the opposite experience from what I expected.

SWTOR has had a poor launch compared to Rift with many bugs and parts of the game that just don't work for many people, including myself. Warfronts are a farce and the ability delay makes any kind of competitive gameplay (PvP) a joke.

The reason it's become the new game to have a stab at is because they have seriously under-delivered and once you get into your 30's/40's you begin to realise this.

This just in, on that same list Anarchy Online is ahead of World of Warcraft.

    WoW killer?

I respectfully disagree. Both games had smooth launches, but RIFT was just not a very good game in my opinion. It was too imbalanced, far too generic fantasy... it just felt uninspired to me through and through. SWTOR is a much more quality game if you ask me. Of course, that is only my opinion. And please note that I am not posting this in the RIFT forum.

So basically it's ok for you to say that rift is not a good game and when other people say that swtor is not a good game they're just hater following the "cool" trend? Wow

Interesting as I did not notice it, though I do not even know how to rate the games.

Just look at his post history, every post he makes comes from the assumption that the majority of gamers hold the same view as he does rather than just speaking for himself. Once you realize that it's easy to see where his often mistaken point of view comes from.

Yes, I've dared to speak out about problems with the game and got stung many times by Bioware/SWTOR fanbois.

It's not a 'mistaken point of view', the problems myself and many others are facing with SWTOR are real. Look on the official forums and you will see the same things from other gamers.

Anyway, things are turning around now and the fanbois are on the defensive because so many more people are noticing the same problems and speaking out.

I'll say the same thing to this topic I did to the ones on SWTOR when they were bragging about SWTOR being ranked #1 here.

    Lol

Seriously? Who on earth takes the rankings from here serious in the least? Pretty well known how much of a joke it is here in relation to that and game ratings.

Good for forum rants and finding out info on games.

Rather awful for getting unbiased opinions on games and frankly the majority of people that come here if you look at how they rank and review  mmos in general pretty much sucks.

Although to be fair I think both Rift and SWTOR are decent games. Neither game is anything to write home about but they're decent and entertaining long as you aren't looking for anything really innovative or different.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Well metacritic user score is also hanging around 6.

But imo what contribute to such score is that swtor failed to meet the expectation of vet mmo player and also failed to gather enough interest from their SP fanbase who is not used to subcription model.

This game have become an interesting case study imo. But it's still too early to jump to any conclusion. I'm interested to see bioware response to this phenomena and how it'll develop down 3-6 month time.

Hopefully in a year or 2, it'll become a viable mmo go to destination. Hopefully it'll not be like WAR.

It won't simply because the PvE aspect is done way better in this game than in Warhammer.

As for PvP, eh, they can certainly improve on some things but this game is never going to be very solid or worthwhile in that department. Definitely room for improvement but that is never going to be a huge selling point for this game.

Shame really but there are so many things that would have to be fixed or redesigned for it to become a huge plus for this game.

I'm not a fan of either game but taking ratings from a site like this to try and prove a point is stupid, ratings are easy to manipulate on these sites when it comes to ranking, they still got games on this site with an 8.0 and above review rating that are shutdown cause they were crap. I don't see rift lasting as P2P passed the end of this year, just look at their own server population page, go throught the day and check for yourselves if you like, you will be lucky if you ever see a heavy server, lucky to see more then 4 medium servers at 1 time and all the rest at low population.

    @wickedjelly

Well they got Mythic team backing them up in the pvp department. Hopefully they can capitalize on that.

.... no that simply means AO is a better game than Wow.  *

Why does it not have 12 million subscribers you ask? Because not everyone is willing to give a sci-fi game from 2001 with below mediocre graphics a try. And not everyone like to think when playing a game.

    * based on the average opinion of each of the two games gamers.

Regardless of rating,I think Rift is a better, more well rounded product than ToR is.
