Can't we just divide the internet in two?

We can have the global internet, how it is now and the American internet with all this censorship crap.

    Quiet you.

One of our dumb ass Senate members will cite this post as expert testimony and make that true.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.

Who care Lars Ulrich gets only 7 Mill of an album instead of 15 Mill. Making laws to make these kind of persons even richer should be a offence, not stealing from rich people!!!

Were i come from we have very good healthcare and a social protection system paid for by taxes... And afaik we have not sold particularly huge amounts of weapons to "bad people"... And it was a good 200 ish years since we invaded another nation... True we sold our rear to anyone during WW2 but when your total population barley make up a major US metropolis you tend to play it safe. So by your logic we are free to kick the arse of people breaking the law... I need to inform our goverment.. they will be soo happy,

This have been a good conversation

Mind you, the EU is trying to pass a similiar law at the moment, but on the flip side the EU is also trying to pass a law that gives individuals much control over their personal data online.

So we're kind of getting the good and the bad, hopefully the good will win!

I am pretty sure Google will not sit idle if they try to take down youtube... But you might find it a lot more difficult to upload material you do not own the rights to soon. More so then to day.

This have been a good conversation

    How about you WAKE UP?

Obviously, we are not all like that, or there wouldn't be an Occupy movement in the first place. Some of us are fighting for change, but it is hard, especially with stuff like Fox News out there working to keep people misinformed. The way things are in this country now, all you can do is be outspoken about what is going on, talk to anyone who will listen, and try to get someone in office, maybe, someday, who isn't a terrible person.

Knowledge is the only way we can win this.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

    — John Parry, to his son Will; "The Subtle Knife," by Phillip Pullman

So they pad a few congressional pockets, help write up a really, really poorly written bill or two - internet backlashes, victory for internet right?

They will pass something, something to help curb piracy.

Constructive criticism and fact based arguments to support a new version of the bill that doesn't place the burden of truth on the accused.

Poorly written bill, but something needs to be done.

    Piracy IS illegal.

Here's a grown up, adult solution to the problem -

PAY for material from artists, corporations, companies, and other such groups that you like and want to support. Vote with your wallet.

    Capitalism.

"There is NO such thing as a free lunch."

YOU, the movie/game/music illegal downloader brought this on us.

The entitlement this generation feels... that they "deserve" to steal is just laughable. Not being able to afford something you want to have is no justification for stealing it. That is called "life" and "reality."

Hmm I disagree... I used to (and most everyone I knew) used to record music from the radio on the casette tapes.  So is that piracy too?

I agree. No one should protest about anything, because any sort of protest is an act of terrorism and that's bad.

.. and SOPA/PIPA is not a weapon that corporations like SONY could and would use against competitors, that would be a bad thing and the American government would stop that from happening.

Wouldn’t it?  Please someone tell me it would protect us from bad laws, please.

The American Revolution was an act of terrorism by terrorists, imo the difference  between terrorism and patriotism just depends on whose side you are on, oh that and who writes the history books.

Our forefathers knew our government would eventually become corrupt, abusive of its power, and turn against its own people. They had the foresight to provide for this and let us know in their own words when we the people stand up against our own government we are never terrorists we are always patriots.

This is a good point.  The answer to this is yes and no.  Yes that when the people are fighting against an oppressive government or outside force AND fighting for (liberty, justice and freedom) it is NEVER terrorism.

The no part is regards to that AND... you can't be fighting for the freedom to beat and oppress women.  Basically its not the act of rising up, but WHY you are rising up.

They don't need any new laws. They simply need to enforce EXISTING law. Copyright infringement is ALREADY illegal....and the were legal mechanisms to deal with it before even the DMCA (another poorly concieved/written law) was passed.

You believe someone is stealing your intellectual property and seriously causing you financial harm as a result... the Court system is THAT way -->

The only difference is the accused has rights, due process and a presumption of innocence and there are actual costs/consequences to bring frivilous/unfounded or trivial complaints before the Court.

For those pirates that are being shielded overseas in nations that don't respect the property rights of your citizens/industry.... well golly gee Wilbur...what are Trade Agreements supposed to be about?  Not lining your pockets so you can help some large contributer flood the country with cheap goods and outsourced labor. Trade Agreements are SUPPOSED to be about insuring that other nations compete fairly on an economic basis with your native industy. If a country routienely turns a blind eye so that it's citizens can pirate your citizens property...you don't hand it "Most Favored Nation" trade status and a lolipop...you treat it the same way it treats you.

Requiring the accused to prove he is innocent is a direct violation of the Constitution of the U.S.A. It is more than a violation, it is throwing it away entirely.

Every American should be up in arms about this. What it means is that all I have to do to make YOU a criminal is to say you broke the law. You ARE a criminal, until you prove you aren't.

If you think our legal system is bad and too full of people suing people now, imagine what it would be like if this was the type of system we lived by.

I enourage everyone to check out EFF's (Electronic Frontier Foundation) website, and join them (or some similar organization) in fighting ridiculous and stupid laws designed to take YOUR rights away.
