Annyone else have a creeping suspicion that the Ilum spawn camping got blown out of proportion? After talking to a few people on my server (Firkann Crystal) they said that Ilum was a lot more fun, and there wasn't any spawn camping. Now I'm not saying it didn't happen at all, there's obviously videos of it and screenshots. What I'm getting at is maybe this was an issue that occured on only a couple servers, and because those servers had a lot of Empire players who immidiately went to Ilum, it blew up.
Everyone in my guild said the most valor anyone could get from spawn camping in one day would be like 40k. After a little bit the amount of unique kills would cause it to drop off a lot. So this whole notion that people went from 0-battlemaster in a day is ridiculous. If someone has proof of this, please, prove me wrong. But I'm just not buying the "this is the worst patch ever" garbage because it's not. And I'm not even supportive of TOR anymore, but I'm also not going to bury every chance I get. Especially when the only proof of something happening is a bunch of people saying so on the PvP forums (notoriously the most whiney MMO forum section).
tldr; Ilum spawn camping got blown out of proportion, and anti-TOR people jumped on it to spell the game's demise

As someone who is a "SWTOR fan" no its kinda a big deal...
A lot of people in the guild I'm in (its a large guild one of those super guilds that invites everyone) were in there farming up Valor, and many of them were saying it was just as amazing a valor gain as the claims on the forums are saying... a thousand points in 5 minutes easily.
EVERYONE was there, no one was WZing, wasn't worth it to WZ.
Lag was horrible too, zone had almost 400 people in it, and two Ilum channels.
There was no 'exploit' but in short, no it wasn't dramatised. The level of spawn camping varied from server to server depending on the population balance between the factions, on my server it was literally a sea of Sith (the side i play) all over the republic spawn area. They were all around the turrets, the middle area and the taxi / spawn point. Repubic players would die and res in the middle of the empire players to be insta-gibbed. Their only way out of the zone was to queue for a warzone match and lie there dead until it popped then exit the match so they'd be booted to their fleet instead of Ilum, something that a lot of the players didn't know they could do so thought they were completely stuck there.
Even if there was no spawn camping, the valor people were churning in made Warzones obsolete. They also allowed people to rank up far too fast. It's a broken system and since they aren't rolling back it all seems pointless now. I'm taking a break from the game, but I doubt I'll ever return to PvP as I'll be massively outgeared. Also, they are unlikely to implement cross server PvP and so besides being outgeared the waits will likely be longer.
Yes the Ilum exploit was a big deal... but Bioware quickly addressed the issue with the patch today. It didn't even take them one full day to respond. Problems are to be expected in new MMOs. If the developers are able to respond to them quickly, they should be applauded.
Of course the problem has been over-dramaticized. There are huge numbers of people on this and other forums who are looking for anything and everything they can find to critize. They want to denigrate the game and they saw this as another perfect opportunity to talk trash. Its the same thing that happens with every new popular game on these forums...
No...it just didn't happen on every server.
Just like the grouping issues doesn't happen on every server. Because some actually have healthy populations. Others are an absolute laughingstock.
So the only way it was over dramatized was if someone were to assume it was happening to everyone. For those it did happen to it was fucked.
Also brought to light that lag may be a major issue in this game with any large groups. Well, least for those that weren't already aware this was a concern. Which seemed many were or just gave the usual bullshit repsonse that people having problems just had a bad connection or crappy pc.

Um, isnt this what the zone should be like? Not 10 people running around shooting rockets at walkers that dont fight back.
The spawn camping was not that bad, and for the first time there was actual PvP in the zone last night on my server. Both Republic and Imperials had groups going and we got a lot in the central location. Was some of the most fun I have had in PvP since the game started.
The claims on the forums were BS, people were just sprouting random numbers to try to make the patch seem like it was the end of the road for the game, the exact same stuff certain people do here. In 2 hours of being on Ilum and fighting, I ganed maybe 6k Valor through all of it, and this was including being in the ops group that was hanging around the Republic base. This was also with having the full buff of controlling Ium.

spawn camping is here to stay for the this simple notion ,faction arent balanced ,you are EMPIRE ,200 on your side 20 on the other ,you got a choice let them do their daily then do yours or nobody progress, and the server that have player balance farm each other because it is faster ,one side say kill the other group join up they let aoe themselves (relativly)then both come back then it is the other side that yell kill one that killed in first run all group up and they get aoed ,etc till the daily is done or some farm day in day out till they are battlemaster, boring yes even them they say it but they will also say i want to be geared max fast
and this isnt just gona stop to swtor all game will suffer this!everybody will know that when one yell KILL IT MEANS THEY WANT TO FARM EACH OTHER!FOR POINT
It got dramatized, because those who were waiting for an excuse to leave a game they had lost their interest in, finally got what they wanted.

lol i was about to say "isn't that a good thing that no one was doing WZ at 50? that there are tons of people out on Illum to fight.
I don't know that sounds like a good change to me.
Some of this sounds like it was a whopping success.
There were so many people that there were two Ilum channels. It was so cool that a lot of people, from both factions, showed up. There would have had to have been a lot of people from both factions for the valor to repeatedly stack up because of diminishing returns.
I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.
Ahh so because it didn't happen on your server, and it didn't happen to you, it is all BS? So the various video's on it can just be dismissed because it didn't happen on your server. Let's also dismiss the fact that it had to be patched. You know because it didn't happen on your server. I hate to break it to you but on my server (Repub), and my alt server (Emp) it was bad. As to your other comment don't know what you were doing wrong, if you only got 6k Valor.

While Bioware f-uped, why aren't players in general mad at the players who were gaming the system/exploit? Its Bioware's fault for releasing 1.1 in the state it was in. However, because of the nature of the problem, it was the players choice to take advantage of the exploit. As a player, I'm frustrated that Bioware made a mistake, but I'm even more upset with being part of a community that like any 3 year old, will break out into a tantrum at any moment.
Bioware has a rough road ahead of itself. Because its Bioware. Because its Bioware that is now owned by EA. Because its Bioware that is now owned by EA that is doing a Star Wars game, the community is going to be even more critical. Simply put, if something similar happened in Trion's Rift, yesterday would have been a relatively quiet news day for MMOs.
We had a group fighting at the door to the republic base, the back side entrance was open. We sent groups out to take points and pull some groups away to reclaim them and kill what imps and small groups came out to try to reclaim them. It was more fun and engaging.
I think what he meant was that the majority of servers got the intended effect, open-world PvP with actual PvP.
But because of population imbalance (the real problem) it caused some servers to become a laggy, spawn-camp.
Brand new 50s that had never PvPed were reaching Battlemaster in a matter of a few hours.
That is serious biz, it wasn't overdramatized at all. How would you feel if you legitmately ground out 60 ranks the intended way and then some clowns manage to go from 5-60 in a few hours?
People in your guild were clueless, the system awards a massive valor bonus for kills when your faction holds all of the objectives on Ilum.
All one faction had to do was cap all the objectives, then camp the shuttleport of the opposing faction for easy-mode valor gains that were enhanced because of one faction owning all of the objectives and the other faction being unable to leave the shuttleport to attempt to capture those objectives for themselves.
The patch was good overall, it just had a few issues. One of them, Ilum, being a major one.

That is a pretty prevalent response. The other day I was repeatedly getting booted from the server (error 9000) and I mentioned it in general chat and was told by several people, the basic gist of, "Well I'VE not had any problems, your computer must be a piece of shit." Seriously. And I have a very nice computer, but because THEY weren't affected by the problem.....it didn't exist and had to be my computer. /sigh
People are so rude these days, especially gamers, it seems. Or really anyone that comes from an anonymous space. I always wonder if people would behave that way in person.

Drama on this site? NEVER!
First Bioware was conspiring to keep customers by not issuing the new content patch until after the free month ended....OOPS!
Then Bioware released a patch that allowed players to gain valor by destroying turrets.....OOPS!
So color me surprised about this one.
You're also right about PVPers. Not all of them, but they do tend to be the whiniest of the bunch. I certainly haven't heard many PVEers demanding nerfs to other classes. Yet every MMO I play it's always the same story.....I just hope I don't have to deal with another Star Wars MMO where my class gets nerfed because some jedi doesn't like losing.

best bet is to run this title in compatibily mode(xp3)and deactivate scaling (same place as the compatiblity should be 5th tickable)
smooth game now!(as long as there arent lot of player around
You may not be but there sure are a hell of a lot of others that do. Although it does appear that least to an extent some are starting to look at things more objectively.
Anyways, you are right that this patch did go well for some and gave a reason for many to start getting involved in things at Ilum.

Did I say spawn camping did not happen anywhere in my post? No. I said it wasnt as bad as the forums were making it out to be. People were claiming the sky was falling and that SWTOR was done for with this patch, which was a severe over dramatiziation.
Sure we camped their base, what do you expect when the pop is this imbalanced? I was talking about how base camping wasnt the only thing that happened, and once the initial OMG ZERG THEM mentality died down, there was some actual world PvP for a change, and it was a ton of fun.

HAIII JUST1!!!! those evil B*******!
As for the spawn camping, they did say that they were making it so that the turrets cant be killed anymore. And the valor gain is pretty good actually. You get them on a per kill basis and in large scale pvp, people are dieing en masse. Yes their lack of foresight on what would happen is quite alarming and the speed in which they hotfixed it was pretty bad but hey they fixed it ish! o.o
You wont be gaining valor unless you have shot down stuff or your sides map control is high but seriously. Me and a small group of people went around and took a bunch of points and we had the valor buff for 1 hour or so. We just kept killing what few enemies go to take back the point. I gained like...10 valor levels in about 30 minutes when I was with the blob group where it was pretty much like EVE online. Laggy and people spamming AOE everywhere and stuff o.o
Im in the Canderous Ordo server and there were quite a bit of whiners who didnt know how to large scale peeveepee...Luckilly I got a group of really decent ones and my overall K/D+A ratio was somewhere along the lines of 19/57.
The main problem was the spawn camping but luckilly my server wasnt affected by that o.o
