Rift is a few weeks from its one year anniversary and still has 40 very full servers.
Hold off a little on this....16 of the 21 European servers are what would be considered low pop (medium only doing prime time, if that) and none would remotely be considered full or even high.
US side is obviously doing better because of the consolidation, EU could probablly stand to shed about 5 or 6 servers
Its got the most people after 10 months since LOTRO (possibly even more) so thats impressive, but dont go exaggerating things.
It has 1 over populated server, 6 high servers, 14 medium servers and 17 low servers
Oddly enough, there are now more EU servers than NA servers
Started new Guard characters with some friends who played other mmo's together, so the chemistry was good. It's a 100 times greater when you're playing with your friends. On my defiant, I tried joining guilds but it was always weird because I didn't know the people like actualy friends.
Rift deserves to live for years, until trion can make a rift 2 in the early 20's or late teens of this century. Not saying it needs one now, or they should develop one now, but I think Rift deserves a sequel. Maybe even a prequel.

it is a great game..but if they ever make another which i doubt..they will have to make it with a lot more depth than the 1st..saying that though they are doin bucket loads of content..just a shame the content was'nt in at the beginning .they would'nt have lost a lot of subs.nice to see they are getting them back though.
I don't know what people expect in terms of content in new games. Content takes an enormous ammount of resources (man hours and $$$$) to make. If they put in what some of you are asking for the development cycle would be 10 years and cost $1 billion USD. By the time it releases the graphics and mechanics would already be 5 years out of date.
You want a lot of content? Play UO, WoW or Everquest 1/2, or any game 10 years or older.
Let's test our reasoning skills.
Person A wants to be paid a higher than average wage for doing better than average work and longer hours.
Person B expects $1 million/year to work from home and only working when they feel like it.
Person B is the type of person who is unhappy with Rift / SWTOR / Guild Wars 2 / etc.
There is a problem with the gaming industry, the uneducated and unrealistic expectations of some gamers and their hyper-inflated view of themselves.

Don't forget Aion, it has had a stellar player retention in the east, but also a very adequately sized player base in the west as well, staying in the top rankings of player activity monitoring tools for a very long time. As for Rift, considering that the low status is 350-400 and less people online and that they score a below 10% player retention of their peak figures in launch month... hmm, I don't know if they have the most people after 10 months since LotrO, it's certainly open for debate.
More EU servers is obviously bc of the various language servers (7 German, 7 English, 4 French)
This is just proof of something everybody should already know, that the opinion of these forums rarely reflects the majority of gamers.
The majority of mmorpg gamers are actually playing the game they love rather than hanging out here waiting or complaining about a certain game.
I'm happy Trion has found success in its first year, and SWTOR for having a great launch in terms of numbers and sales. 2012 looks positive, the balance in the market is shifting slowly out of WoWs favour and is being divided amongst other games which is great, healthy competition is what this genre needs to evolve.
I couldn't agree more and while I don't enjoy RIFT it isn't in my nature to wish it ill if others do like it.
A little bit more of that attitude on these forums would do as all some good.
So, i got numbers of an official report of another mmo developer who calculates as follows the first year:
~ 1 million client sales ~ 280.000 avg. subs. = ~ 100 million revenue
The game in the example is F2P now...
Have Fun!
"Torquemada... do not implore him for compassion. Torquemada... do not beg him for forgiveness. Torquemada... do not ask him for mercy. Let's face it, you can't Torquemada anything!"

Actually it was closer to 180 million minus new investments and the new games they are making right now. Which already pretty well covers teh base production cost of TOR. Since it took less than 50 million to make they have long since surpassed TORs profit margin. Also mmo data and the official releases from Trion look more like 5 to 600 thousand, not 200 thousand. Sounds like sour grapes on your part. But don't worry all those people leaving TOR will help out RIFTs struggling population lol.

Rift is such a great game in my opinion.
Leveled a defiant to 50 mainly only my own.
