Ok, so, it doesnt work when you open 2 windows of mmorpg.com forums, n try to post on the first one.. So rewrite my post, n hope I dont double post 5 min after this one or something.. Ill try to remember wat I said -.-;
Did we really have to stoop to this lvl? Yes, insult my gaming hardcoreness. Watever.
You dont see guys complaining, cuz games are made for guys. The industry is completely male dominated. There will ALWAYS be "hot chicks" in MMOs, cuz guys are making the games, for GUYS. Also, having attractive chars kind of helps in immersion. I want to feel like I am in "the game". My character should be my alter-ego.
Not once did I say that I dont care about content, storyline, anything. Did I? No. So quit assuming you pompous bastards. Ty. That being said, Im probably a LOT more picky than the majority of ppl here. I expect a LOT out of games, especially lately, becuz Ive played many, and want the elements that I like the best out of ALL of them. Ive already made complaints on other aspects of MMOs coming out lately, so now its time to complain about this aspect.
Again, this is only one of my many complaints about MMOs. But its not like it's hard to fix. It's not gonna take 6 years of development for this one aspect. Also, its something that male gamers have been accustomed to. Why should females not get the same thought?
EDIT: Fixed smiley
EDIT again: Spelling >.>
EDIT: I just noticed, both of the ppl who had harsh words towards me are 30+ males. Sorry for hurting your oh-so-sensitive egos by saying 30+ males are not pleasing to the eyes. Ill try not to use honesty next time. /sarcasm
S'if youre complaining that most of the fem chars im MMOs are around high teens - low 20s, and very attractive.

Haha, I had to smile when I read this. I don't agree with the folks who criticized you for complaining about the character models for the male characters -- that's a valid complaint I think. But you're words about men over 30 made me LOL. I suppose the likes of Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Matt Damon, Ben Affleck (all 30+ and some WELL beyond 30) etc are not attractive, contrary to what most women seem to think and say in polls about attractive men. I don't doubt the honesty of your preferences, but I find them interesting in light of this other data that seems to say that at least a lot of other women are attracted to these guys who aren't exactly in their early 20s.
Perfectly valid point and the computer gaming industry is geared to it's predominately teenage male market. Heck, when I was reading ZZAP 64! back in the 80s, there were occasional adverts - like Barbarian featuring ex Page 3 model, Maria Whittaker - that bared flesh to sell the product. It's 100% worse now and companies seem to have their head stuck in the sand when it comes down to engaging women. We haven't progressed that far from awful rock 'n' roll fantasy with semi-pornagraphic covers in the 70s.
On the subject, I'd argue not just for cute male avatars to make up the balance, but a character customization system that really allowed us to make any character we want i.e. gender, size, colour, ugliness. Why can't I make an ugly, hunchbacked, matted-haired dwarf, squinting out of one eye, whilst hurling a torrid volley of lewd, lascivious, sexist comments at any female who happened to be in the area?
One's avatar (and one's mental image that one would like projected on-screen) is every much part of role-play as deeper gaming elements. Who was it who said that only the shallow are not concerned by appearence?
On another note, fantasy MMOGs are continuing the trend of female avatars wearing less is considered sexy. Most female 'toons end up looking like skanny ho's, rather like Christina Uglieria in fact! I remember my High Elf 'toon in EQ, had a permanent constipated, 'surprised' expression on her face - rather like someone made a lewd suggestion to her on the use of root vegetables.

Whats funny is that games have been designed to have eye-candy women for a very long time. Lineage 2 is a core example, and even in EQ2 the female models are more detailed/realistic looking then the male ones. Its obvious who the game-makers are targeting

Well, first, I dont really find them attractive, but I understand why so many women do. First, theyre famous, and some ppl have this weird obsession with famous ppl. Second, theyre not exactly your average male in the 30s, theyre well taken care of. The comparison just doesnt really fit.
The fems in MMOs look very well done. Theyre much above average. The males in MMOs are low to average.
You could compair fems in MMOs to famous women, you cant compair males in many MMOs to famous men.
dont be a basher. what about all those lame asses that make girl characters so they can cyber for money or just create girl character to stare at. all she wants is a game that is easy on the eyes aparently

hahahahaha! I did that in FFXI with a catgirl. Made more money in 20 minutes than I did in 2 hours of farming critters.
But seriously, if you have a problem with how women are represented in games, learn how to create game art, get a job, and change the world. Bitching about it here more than likely isn't going to change a thing.
----------------------------- Listen Asmodeeus, seven years ago, Ultima Online didn't even have those pathetic "quests" that you refer to or those "professions" of ninja, samurai, necromancer, and paladin. Nor did it have any of the neon crap, or bug mounts. It didn't even have any "combat moves." You turned on attack and jousted with simplistic swings. It was a better game then. if you can't guess why then just uninstall the thing and move along. - Crabby

But posting about "how bout making a game thats like ___, but on a lower budget" or "OMG FREE GAME HERE OMG IT BLOWS BIGASS CHUNKS BUT ITS FREE SO ITS COOL" is ok.
I wouldnt become a game dev for that one reason.. Its not like its a HUGE deal.. Its just that I cant believe noone cares in the industry. I kno its probably not gonna change anything by posting it here, but Im just making my opinion heard.
lol in final fantasy player look so young, you dont assume they even can hold a sword
i myself dont prefer games where player chars have baby face, like many asian games. but honestly watch some picture from the last century where mens in the beginning of their 20ties had bearts and were looking like they are 40 years old. our whole society is way too much concentrated on advertising , stars under 30, i myself can only laugh about it, about those who even started to grow up.
