Gentlemen,
This is a verbatim quote from a friend of mine currently playing TOR. He ADORES the game. I have known this guy since middle school (about 1998) but we were never close so I take his opinion in regards to me as non-biased. He is also one of the biggest star wars fans I've ever known, being way into Star Wars: the collectible card game, all the console games, pen and paper role playing in the star wars universe, owns all the films, has never had anything negative to say about the franchise and loves equally the original trilogy and everything since.
I have been on the fence about getting my feet wet in this game for quite a while, lurking on the forums here as well as asking people I know in real life who have exceedingly favorable opinions of the game and do not visit mmorpg.com. I have tried to weigh the good and the bad; the story elements versus the terribad pvp. The abillity of the game to be run on anything that even pretends to be a computer versus the terribad UI and graphics settings. The irrefutable FACT that this game is not related to the original trilogy in any way, shape, or form.
I know all too well that ToR is the only star wars themed mmo in existance at this time. Galaxies launched in 2003 I believe, and now in 2012 is ToR, some 9 year later, right? So, logically, I can assume safely that no new star wars themed mmo will launch for at LEAST another 9 years, and even that may be wholely unrelated to the OT especially if TOR grows to become an industry juggernaut and is still running 9 years from now. So I was beginning to feel that I could not beat the direction star wars has been going for many years, perhaps I should simply admit defeat and join it.
Well, now I know that I should not cave in. And I know this because this source, my aquaintance, has provided me a logic based argument that puts to rest all other arguments for or against picking up this title.
I have played many a Bioware game and I liked virtually none of them save for the Mass Effect series (which I found to be so well done that I feel Mass Effect could easilly and successfully be converted to a MMO in its own right). Knights of the Old Republic is no exception. Sure these games were platinum best sellers and given rave reviews for being the best rpgs ever coded, however I disagreed. I did not know until now that that is all I should have considered when deciding about jumping into ToR the MMO. And I am further convinced that no one will disagree with this. (Meaning they will not disagree that this is all one should consider, not the quality or merits of KoTOR the game series or Bioware products in general, do not get confused).
So for anyone else like me, simply look back and consider how playing KoTOR impacted you as a gamer. If you loved KoTOR then you probably should try the game. If not, then one probably should not try it. Search your feelings, you know it to be true.
Problem = solved

I'm still not sure, I think you should give it a shot.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.
I enjoy the serenity of not caring what your opinion is.
I don't hate much, but I hate Apple© with a passion. If Steve Jobs was alive, I would punch him in the face.
To be specific what I most disliked about KoTOR was the combat system. What I second most disliked was that I had to be human (I am aware that was intentional and critical to the story). So to pay monthly as well as buy the box just to try something based wholely off these core design principles that I detested would be folly.
I still think a free trial and/or free to play model would be enough to get me to try but beyond that, knowing what I know of Bioware and KoTOR followed up with what my aquaintance made clear to me I'd say that isn't a smart choice to try now via paying money.
