Like many here, I too received the Founder's title e-mail. The interesting thing is... I never purchased the game!
Isn't that odd? I own several other BW games and was offered multiple beta tests (not just the weekends) but at no point did I purchase the game. So you can imagine my perplexity in receiving such an e-mail!
Now most of you might brush this off as a minor event. But to me, it speaks volumes about BioWare and SWTOR based on different angles:
If this is indeed a conscious decision on BW's part to send out this e-mail, then boy are they desperate. Begging for subs from people who haven't even bought the game. Sad.
It's also pathetic that they did not have time to edit it slightly for the people who didn't buy the game. I mean the first line of the letter thanks me for making SWTOR a "successful MMO launch".
I feel a little insulted that they aren't even trying to get me to appreciate this product. Laughable.
And if it is a mistake - beta users getting on the buyer list - then that's just an elementary, poor database error that no one out of college should make.
Anyway, what did you all make of this e-mail? What were your initial and final reactions to it?
Personally, I find it to reek of desperation and hot mess.
Also, please note, this is NOT a discussion about the title... just your reactions to it. If you want to praise or trash the title, please head here: http://www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/338490/Founders-Medal-and-Title.html

What you speak of is nothing new, a lot of companies have moved in this direction, insurance companies, car dealerships. The moment you have some interest of a product on the internet then you are bombarded with emails.
This is the first time this has happened to me.
I've tried free trials of EVE, AoC, Aion, RIFT (was in their beta) and of course WoW (back when Blizzard gave 14 day trial passes in their singleplayer game boxes).
First time a company sends such a ludicrous e-mail to me.
Edit: Add Starcraft 2 to that list. Beta tested that and never got e-mails regarding it, or its expacs or anything.

Your kidding right I have eve constantly hounding me about subbing up as well as many other games I have beta tested.
And I got the same email and kinda laughed...If they were smart they would have included a code or something you could use to get a discount on digital download...but nope.
What you have now been exposed to is directed marketing. Consider this If you were a company that makes baken would you post adds up in a jewish or muslim neighborhood? When your on facebook pay attention to your ride side and notice how many of those adds there are similar to the groups and things you like on it. Companies are trying to get there advertising to those who will be more likely to spend money...Congrats your now like every other internet user...
I love how its become so trendy on the internet to nitpick the most insignificant oversights imaginable (such as recieving a marketing email in error, booohoohooohooo) and overplaying it with sensationalized comments. Who the hell started this trend anyways? I remember when going through a drive thru and actually getting your correct order was a big mf-ing deal, you almost wanted to go back and kiss the girl (or guy) who actually done it right.
Dont tell me people are more spoiled these days. People have always been spoiled, lack of logic is the term you're looking for.
Direct selling is a perfectly good addition to any marketing mix.
You see the various ads for Rift/ToR/WoW on the borders here? Desperate or marketing/advertising?
Little less :smug: pls.
Its not an oversight. You can get teh founders title by subbing to the game before the deadline. Like the above poster said. Its awful trendy to nitpick things to death. Its a company, they are doing business. This includes marketing. How is this different then anything else?
I get emails from WoW, FF XIV, Eve, Champions, STO, AoC, Rusty Hearts, Rift, Warhammer, LoTRO, Fallen Earth, SOE, and who knows what else all the time. Most of those I've never purchased.
I did beta test or get a free trial in lots of them. And they will email me until the servers go dark probably. Welcome to the Internet.
