Is It wierd that I am asian but I prefer Western mmo compared to Asian mmo ?

I find it a bit wierd actually Im Filipino but I like Western mmo's alot compared to asian ones .

I never liked asian mmo's with the exception of Ragnarok online (the only asian mmo i considered 'Worth the money') I always prefer games like Ever Quest,Dark age of Camelot and Shadow Bane  compared to the Anime style mmo's

Most of the asian people I know would find it quite odd since they like those anime, Japanese  themed mmo's you see on asian mmo's today .

I know this may sound wrong and I am going to apologize just in case  but everytime i hear or see a Asian mmo it will always scream to my mind  'AVOID IT AT ALL COST !'  Thats why i never really gave a damn about mmo's like Aion and upcoming asian mmo's like TERA and Blade and Soul

Is there any asian people that have the same taste as me ?

Your profile says you are from London, UK. If you were raised in London, it makes sense you'd have a taste for Western MMOs because you were raised in a Western country. If you weren't raised in the West, then meh, everyone likes what they like. I'm sure there are plenty of 'Westerners' who prefer Asian mmorpg.

I can not remember winning or losing a single debate on the internet.

What does Race have to do with Ethnics? I think you are confusing the two pal

I don't see any obvious reason why someone who lives in the Phillippines would prefer Korean games over American or vice versa.  And if you're only of Filipino descent and don't actually live there, then I wouldn't see any obvious reason to tend to prefer games made in the Phillippines, even.

Ragnarok Online and Final Fantasy XI are the only two eastern MMOs I've paid for.  Definitely with you on the Ragnarok thing, I loved that game to death.  Nothing else has seemed worth it.  I typically like the character creation of asian MMOs better, and the story and combat/gameplay of western MMOs better.

Every now and then I do like to go find myself a nice F2P Korean grinder to lose a few days in though.

if u asian u shoud stick with asian MMO and u shouldn't like western MMO, cus that is supporting u culture u know??

but if u play western mmo wat kind of msg does that send to others, its like "HEY I WANT TO BE LIKE WESTERN"

but u should be true to who u r and not try to be different just cus u think its cool or becus u h8 ur own ppl.

Would this be a case of self racism?

for everyone saying racism it not race, its culture. In america eating dogs is discusting. In china it isn't. In britain shoes can be worn inside houses, in japan you leave them by the door, in some middle eastern countries polygamy is okay with certain limitations, in the west it isn't.

Race has nothing to due with it. I have absolutely no idea what part of culture would make the type of games seem different, but I also don't understand why half of the japenese generals commited suicide after being defeated in world war 2.

If you live in the Philippines or something then I can see why you would ask that, from what I've learned from my experience in MMOs most people there play f2p games or Dota/LoL/Hon so if you said you play Everquest they would raise an eyebrow. But it's perfectly fine to play what you want of course, no doubt.

Saying or asking in this case, if someone should like something or if it's weird to like something cause of race then it is racism. No different then a Black guy asking if he should like something cause others assume he should (pick your stereotypical item whereever). That would be a form of racism or stereotyping, just not aimed at anyone.

I'm White and I perfer mexican food...

I could go on and on about Asian MMO and Anime (and how much I hate both) but lets just say... You like what you like and it really has little to do with your race.  I have several black friends who would never let their pants hang off their ass or wear flat brim hat turned to the side...  *shrug*

WoW is pretty damn popular in Asian cultures and it's as american as you can get I think?  McDonalds of MMO's... Basic, tasty, bad for you, but they have EVERYTHING... and sometimes they even offer some good shit!  I think they have coffee thats good now?  And I really like the oatmeal cups for breakfast!  ;)

It probably has to do more with what type of games you were surrounded with when you were growing up than your race.

Like you I'm Filipino and I lived in a Western country (U.S.) for 17 years and only last year I moved back to the Philippines. I grew up playing UO, SWG and GW1. My preference is still Western developed games despite the overwhelming majority of MMO gamers here who play F2P Asian MMOs like Forsaken World and Ragnarok Online. I've visited perhaps close to 30 of the thousands of internet shops in Metro Manila and not one had a Western MMO installed in the PC. Typically I'd see people playing DOTA, F2P Asian MMOs or a Western First Person Shooter while I play this odd game called GW1 on my USB. There are occasions where a person would approach me or someone else who was watching and ask what I was playing because they say it looked like it came from another country. They also liked the graphics of an aging GW1 haha.

So yeah it's preference with a heavy influence of the gaming culture in the part of the world you're living. That's my personal conclusion.

Playing now: Cities: Skyline / Ori and the Blind Forest / Banished

If you feel the need for affirmation of your weirdness, yes you are weird. It has nothing to do with your race or your choice of games; you are just weird.

According to sales figures most gamers in general prefer western games, Squareenix being almost totaly supported by Ubisoft is a great example of this, so no, it isn't odd.

I think this was a stupid question and a stupid thread. I was looking to waste some time on the forums, and I did it in leaps and bounds by reading this thread and then responding.
