The press beta will be the telling factor. Although, I made a prediction on September in another thread yesterday, I am feeling a late spring early summer release now.
The press beta isn't really a beta, it's showing off the game to the press, and then letting the press hype their game for them. The March/April betas will most likely be stress tests, and potentially WvWvW testing on a grander scale (more true to release).
Late April is pushing it, but a mid to late May release could be possible. Anything past June would have to come from some major issue that cropped up during stress tests.
Release date for Guild Wars 2? Simple really. "WHEN IT'S READY"
On a more serious note it depends how the beta events go in March and April. ArenaNet has said before that the feedback received from the closed beta would determine when they would start opening up the beta to the public. Considering the closed beta started in the middle of December and they are opening up the testing in February I would say testing has gone well and the feedback received has been stuff that ArenaNet has not had to change anything drastically.
So... with March and April being beta events open to the public and the release date being based on the number of bugs found/feedback received I'd say it can two ways:
- Early Summer release (May/June) if all goes well in March and April
- Late Summer release (July/August) if there are a lot of things that need tweaking
Does anyone have any info that will be indicative of an early summer release? I'm really hping they do, so that I will actually have time to play it. It'll totally suck if they pull a Skyrim and release a week before finals :-(
I do hope it's sometime in april or very early june! but as to what they have posted about it, they haven't said. I think tho the next three months being a focused beta series of months it should be summer. I would expect them to be done with it by then as this game is feature complete already and all they are really doing is implementing server, dynamic event, and dungeon testing at this point.
As far as bugs go, (I know op didn't say this but someone else mentioned it) I can truly say that i could definitely handle Skyrim style bugs because they are funny and not gamebreaking, but SWTOR bugs are just not going to cut it sorry, i doubt tho that Anet would get anywhere near SWTOR bugs at launch day because their management staff seems to have their heads screwed on straight.
April 28th (Guild Wars Aniversary) They really wanted a # 4 jersey but the guy that wears it still works there.
Just kidding. The official answer is "when its ready."
Yes that would be the answer if blizzard were making it. blizzard should change that slogan to the answer is: when its over cooked and nobody cares anymore.
I'm guessing a September release. I think they will be taking a methodical approach to beta that includes testing and tweaking features and testing them over and over again until it is highly polished. Since the betas will only cover the weekends, i'm thinking that's why it will be drawn out over a longer period of time. I think before summer is being far too optimistic.

No one releases a MMO in the middle of summer. Either it will be may (possibly late april) or it will be after gamescon in early september...
Only the worst no lifers spend the entire summer glued in front of a game, autumn on the other hand is premium game time. More than one MMO have launched in may though.

I'm not so sure summer will be a bad idea; here's why. The demographic: many potential customers are students who have the most free time during the summer. Myself, and many people that I know, are often hesitant about buying games during the school year. Two, it is buy-to-play, so they don't really need people to subscribe all summer to make a their profit. Those that are going to buy the game will buy it regardless, and play it when they have time. Three, there's no way they're going to hold off on releasing the game if it's ready. The only way that they would delay it is if there are issues; any other reason would just cost them money.
A video has just been released with Anet Devs in a Q&A sections with Smouch magazine, a rather small magazine company. It delves deeper into PvP, including WvWvW, some gameplay footage of Mesmer, and hints into when the game is planned to be released (they say unless of course the beta does not go as planned).

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

I'm going with first Tuesday in June, with the actual announcement coming in Feb just after the press have their first chance at the game.
All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.
I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

Pure speculation of course.

i put my money on 28th of April as well (actually money is on the game + 40 charater slots).
For now i reduced my expectations to news about GW2 instead of its launch :P and those are:
-The new trait system
-WvWvW
-April's Fool day ( cant wait for it! )
changed my guess to September

Whahahahaha I would love to see a investors response to that line. "Oh when we believe we can have the game done? uuh when where ready?"
