Many people keep asking this for the past year, and I answer it the same. After gw2 released their Hall of Monuments Reward calculator gw has gained some population, however it is still hard to get group for the regular content missions and vanquishing (unless that missions or vanquish is the zaishen quest of the day). However now that you can have 7 heroes in party you can easily do 95% of the content solo. The rest are the elite missions and speed clears, but you can still find groups for that. Anet have recently released a new universal outpost Embark Beach which have NPCs that can take you to any missions so you can start looking for party there.
So, If you are interested in gw2 reward items and titles, or if you are interested in the lore, and if you are an RPG fan, Guild Wars is definately worth the time and 30 bucks for the complete collection. Expansions add tons of content (I would definately reccomend playing Eye of the North which is imo the most important to play before gw2). There's also a free expansion content update Guild Wars Beyond that adds lots of new missions and stories.

Yes I also restarted playing GW1 after a few years of playing other games. Levelling my last character to 20 :-) It is still a bit empty but I see regular visitors in basically all mission places (playing Nightfall campaign atm). And a handful of my guildies also started to play again (I was in quite a large alliance). There's also still a lot of PvP going on if that's what you're after.
