Starwars the old republic (one word) FAIL

I had high hopes for this game but after playing it for one month I have to say this game fails on many levels

~ bgs ... huttball x 10,000 cough boring as hell, also if you win it might not count as a win as well as skills not working and freezing up ....so after playing for 3 hours tonight and 5 wins my quest is till not done :......:

~ I know this game was not based on pvp but having no objectives in pvp in ilum other than a quest or two and getting valor which atm has no worth ... also killing players at their gate over and over is not very challenging.

~ I do agree that the quest line was alot of fun but other than that doing hardmodes over and over can get pretty boring, if you want to lvl up alts you might have alot of fun but tbh this game imo needs alot more to keep it going.

~ the servers are not balanced at all and playing against your own side in bgs and doing three bgs over and over again boring...

~ I have to say battlegrounds for people who like pvp are very boring....

Did I mention boring ? =D

~ bottom line I'm waiting for guildwars 2 to come out ,  3 realms against each other with objectives and not having to wait for a tank or healer should be a real bonus :) the videos look awesome as well as some awesome classes to play !!!!!

Prepare to get a dozen replys about Swtor not being a PvP centric game.  That seems to be the common defence.

However if they werent going to have decent PVP I say they shouldnt have put it in the game at all.  Do it right or dont do it.  But from what little I played of Swtor, I cant even agree with it being an mmorpg.  It seems unecessary.  And through giving it the mmo treatment its dubbed down far and beyond anything resembling the quality of Mass Effect.

Its not that Im against an Old Republic mmorpg.  As long as its done right.  This was a poor attempt.  If they had spent a little more of their budget on game design and game play things might have been different.  Voice overs are swell stuff.  But its fluff.  No amount of voice overs is going to make a bad game good.  Someone in charge really should have realized that.

Not only there are 3 warzones witch they are short and boring  u also get  very bad fps.Im playing with 24 fps at warzones.

You have done the right thing mate.Just quit to relax and push away your anger about this ridiculous mess.

I ve done the same playing skyrim and dota 2 and  waiting for d3 gw2.May the best win my playtime. If both are good then ill have to split my time but we ll see till then.

Some people just like these easy console style dumbed down mmorpg's. Not many like tons of features, they like paying for mediocre mmo's that lack features. So let them have SWTOR as their best game ever. Ones that agree with you (OP), will find better games down the road.

Im glad people like SWTOR, im a huge fan of SW's when i first watched it decades ago. Its just not my cup of tea, ill play KTOR on my console and not get charges a 15/month fee ;)

The real reason you feel so unsatisfied is your ridiculous expectations,  The exact same expectations you are repeating again with GW2.

Same as you Z, except that DOTA2 bores me too XD so i play BF3, Anno 2070 and Skyrim till D3 and GW2 (along with RE OP Raccoon city !).

PVP in SWTOR really killed the game for me, especially since they weren't able to fix that god damn queue bug, which is unforgivable for a company the size of Bioware (don't know if they fixed it yet).

I just jumped back in Rift for the free period and did a couple pvp games and i was like "wow", it's 20 times more dynamic and enjoyable than TOR... specially since they put their unreal like voice comments. A lotta people are coming back in the game too now.

    You're a Hardcore Survivor!

You not only survived the zombie apocalypse, but did it with style! Your mastery of zombie knowledge, survival tactics, and weaponry is nearly unmatched. Congratulations, for you are hardcore!

SWTOR had cinamatics, all of GW2 vids have been actual game play vids, there are no cinamatic trailers for GW2.Secondly we know for for a fact that GW2 has three faction open world pvp with objectives and server wide rewards.Thirdly ArenaNet already have a game with great PvP,its called GW.

Having played both games i can say imo swtor has already lost. His expectations are like yours and many others over the top faith in bioware before swtor came out.

I just resubbed and regret that decision, PvP is a joke, even the PvP sets isnt worth grinding for, as you get better stats on pve gear, the expertise only reduces the dmg by 10 - 15% and the stats you really want for your gear isnt on the PvP gear.

As the OP already mentioned the WZ just get tedious and boring after a while. As to the PvE it gets old and tedious, the crafting isnt worth its salt, lvl 50 gear requires flashpoint grinding for mats, and this is where the game centres its selling point, Flashpoints, if you enjoy grinding them everyday then kudos to you, but I dont want to pay subs for a game where i am required to enter instances everyday to grind gear. I will play my month out and move on.

Most mmo's are doing that lately. I use to join a new mmo and i would think "damn this sh*t is awesome", or "how the hell did they manage that" or some other things. Now most games are like " been here, done that", "you call this an epic mmo", or things along that line.

MMO's just seem to be going backwards, and the console feel and fun seems to be taking over, but killing the features and feel of a mmo to me.

TOR isnt a horrible game, but not much difference between that and KTOR. Comparing SWG (even with some bad mechanics and changes) just seemed to have more indepth game play and features.

Player content and creativity is lacking bad in these new mmo's. Its the one thing i liked about the community while plaiying a mmo.

Never said that, and anyone knows mmos take time to develope and grow. But with 100-200mil and many years to polish the game along with 4 of the first few patches being exploit fixes, while pvp got worse with fps issues. It tends to make people look the other way.

And most the mmo's released now are exactly the same, give them 6 months or 6 years they just seem the exact same.

Please dont put words in my mouth.

Unfortunatly as long as that crowd of around 1-2 million people that pre order every single mmo thats released we will keep getting sub standard bug ridden mmo's because they make thier revenue from those sales alone. We are so starved of a good mmo atm the temptation to build up every mmo to fever pitch levels is hard to resist for some.

I would be pleasantly surprised if any of the "this is repetitive" people listed the magical MMO they are going back to that doesn't have repetitive grinding at max level for gear/mats/currency/etc...

I would sub to it in a second.

I find it funny that people complain about the PvP. What does PvP boil down to exactly? Is it not fighting and hopefully killing the enemy players? Whether you're killing other players in an open world or an instanced battleground, you're still killing players day after day, week after week, and month after month. How is that any less boring than any other end game feature?

DAoC was my first MMORPG and I loved that game, but even I got bored RvRing day in and day out. I'm afraid you all will never be pleased with MMORPG's, because you have these high expectations that some game will make you enjoy doing the same activity for long periods of time.

A good sandbox title with conquest style PvP is a different story, but I gave up on that dream a long time ago. Since then, I've learned to enjoy MMORPG's for what they are, and once the content is complete, I quit the game without any regrets or feel the need to criticize the game ceaselessly.

I just don't think MMORPG's are well suited to endgame designs. To me, they're more about the journey than the destination. Endgame, whether it's PvP or PvE all boils down to repeating the same action over and over again until you're bored to death. That's why I enjoy SWTOR so much. It's rare that I enjoy the leveling experience in a MMORPG. The class stories, heroics, and flashpoints are all enjoyable to me. Warzones are also enjoyable, but I don't grind them out the way some people do.

I don't think GW2 is going to be any different really. It'll be wrapped in different packaging, and may feel a little different, but once the novelty of the game wears off, you all will realize that you're still repeating the same action ad nasuem, just in a different setting.

Just because you have given up on conquest type PvP which has a meaning does not mean others have. TERA and ArcheAge are two upcoming MMORPGs which both are promising to have endgame political conquer type PvP and TERA is not even a sandbox MMO.

So it can for sure be done, it just depends what cathegory of gamers the devs are targetting and for me it is getting more and more clear that SW:TOR are targetting the PvE crowd and PvP is mostly added as a feature to make people buy the game. For example, they have world PvP servers but there is absolutely no point in engaging in it, and most people dont, so why even have them?

  • nate1980nate1980 Member UncommonPosts: 2,074

One more thing, I may not hate on SWTOR which seems to be the current "band wagon" thing to do on these forums, but do you really think I'll be playing SWTOR in a years time? Most certainly not. Why would I after I complete all the class stories and when any new content can be consumed rather quickly? But I wouldn't stick around in any MMORPG's after I completed the content once through, so it's nothing special. The only type of game that would keep me subscribed for years would be a game that has a fun journey to max level, like SWTOR does, but with a more social open ended max level game. That pretty much rules out all MMORPG's, since they all end up being about gaining the best gear.

I admit I don't follow GW2, so I don't get the hype, but what about that game will keep people subscribed for more than 6 months, which is how long I think it'll take me to complete all the class quests in SWTOR?

Less a defense and more a "Where have you been?"  The PvP isn't good. No one who paid any attention expected it to be. They can do a few things to make it a bit better like fix the bugs but it's never going to be good. The concept is all wrong. It's like complaining Paula Dean can't play baskeball for beans.

Except Paula Dean, whoever she is, probably never claimed to be able to play basketball where as Bioware promoters boasted alot about how nice the PvP in SW:TOR will be. Even claiming they had people from WAR working on it, like that would be seen as a positive thing, LOL
