Agreed.  Can't really say until you know exactly what they offer each month and how often the expansions are.

i dont understand your question. I have been playing several p2p mmos this last few years and never payed for expansions... only the month fee.

Well, I am not talking about major expansions only. I meant the smaller new content such, items, weapons, armor, vehicles, costume pieces, abilities, emote packs etc. It seems as it gets quite popular for companies to put it up for sale every time something new comes out.

Plus, it would eliminate Pay 2 Win, but not in a way that everyone gets everything as soon as it comes out. It would be available in the game, but you would still have to put some effort in order to get it.

    1) I already pay $15/month and get all the expansions

    2) This wouldn't eliminate 'pay 2 win'. It just imposes a higher monthly charge so that you are paying extra for additional content even if you don't want or need it.

Depends what the game is and what I'm getting. $19 is a hefty price for me. Although its really not much, I can't see myself spending that much on a game ontop of paying for xbox live already. Thats why I prefer to play F2P games and go cash shop (since i don't buy too often).

  • CastillleCastillle Member UncommonPosts: 2,679

Yes so long as there are regular (yearly) expansions. Also 19 is an annoying number.  Make it 20 or 15!

In EQ we paid for EVERY expansion that came out.

Personally the only modern MMORPG trend that annoys me is the idea that MMOs need to be designed in a way to attract people who don't actually like MMOs. Which to me makes about as much sense as someone trying to figure out a way to get vegetarians to eat at their steakhouse.

It depends on the quality of the product, as does everything in life. If it's a top quality game and it's enjoyable, then I'd say yes. Paying for expansions can get pretty pricey if there are a lot of them.

  • eye_meye_m Member UncommonPosts: 3,317

I have a tough time with the concept of paying $15 each month anymore.  I can't see myself ever subbing to a game again.

All of my posts are either intelligent, thought provoking, funny, satirical, sarcastic or intentionally disrespectful. Take your pick.

I get banned in the forums for games I love, so lets see if I do better in the forums for games I hate.

My initial answer is no. You'd need to give a lot more detail on what you offer. If you expect to charge a premium rate then you need to supply a superior product. So far I've seen nothing to indicate that. Of course that's the hard part. What I consider superior or inferior may not be what other people would agree with.

What you're offering is already available with EVE Online at a lower price per month. CCP has never charged for any of their expansions or new content.

    Details...

one major flaw with your poll is that people who don't play P2P games in the first place will skew it towards the "no".

you could avoid this by including a "i wouldn't play a game with a monthly fee in the first place" option or osmething like that.  since you only really care about responses from people who're willing to pay monthly fee.  this is not a criticism, just research design advice to get better results.

Well, as soon as they release the game and over time they prove that their model works then we can rejoice.

I don't mind it, but if you're going to charge $15.00 USD a month, your game better be beyond amazing.

  • fenistilfenistil Member Posts: 3,005

Sure I can shell out 19 , hell I can shell out even more.

Just make me a varied virtual world mmorpg with good graphics and reasonable polish (not some half-assed indie game ,sorry DFO and MO or Xylon) + NO CASH SHOP AT ALL

  • ReizlaReizla Member RarePosts: 4,092

    NO

Lineage II gave free updates year after year and the subscription stayed € 12.95 till it went F2P. ANd before you L2 haters start... The decline in subs was NOT because of the game, but the lack of NCSoft to do anything about known problems (bots RMT)

  • TorlukTorluk Member Posts: 162

I do wonder sometimes if the addition of cash shops and the rise of f2p was partly a result of none of the big players in the genre taking the risk to raise sub fees in line with inflation and charge more than their competitors.

If that is what is required to end cash shops and the game isn't just a soulless clone of previous games in the genre then yes I would consider paying more for it per month.

Buy to play is the only model i am interested in these days. This gives the game companies incentive to create a more innovative, entertaining and rewarding gaming experience. If they can't rely on easy subscription money, they must innovate and produce something more valuable to earn customer loyalty.

I have no problem paying more for a P2P so long as it's worth it, but then personally I won't touch anything with cash shop and I don't think of B2Ps as MMOs...

I will not play a game with a cash shop ever again. A dev job should be to make the game better not make me pay so it sucks less.

  • FutureMMOFutureMMO Member Posts: 47

Everyone here makes some very good points.

50/50 on the poll without even going into details of what the product is indicates that most players would be willing to pay a bit extra if the product was truly superior to others and was worth it.

Thank you everyone for your time!

I'm agree to pay more as I can stop membership at any moment.

I find it better then buy game or/and extensions, as I payed too much for most I have (like WoW, Aion, LoTRO).

try before buy, even if it's a game to avoid bad surprises.
Worst surprises for me: Aion, GW2

Weekly new content and a world so large it'd be unimaginable?

    Maybe.

    Otherwise no. That's retarded.

I used to play MMOs like you, but then I took an arrow to the knee.
