I think if it is released it will be before the summer because it seems a bit late to have it released afterwards when you have an open beta coming up in February and already had one last year.
That sounds dumb, have anyone ever released a AAA MMO in late june?
Only no lifers spend the summer gaming, you will get a lot better initial sales in spring or autumn.
Of course it would make it possible to actually gain players after launch but I still don´t believe it.
Amazon isn´t a trustworthy source, I am not sure even I would believe NC soft either, the only ones that have a clue is ANET.
I don't understand what most people must do that makes the summer such a busy time in comparison to othe rmonths of the year. Everyone in my family goes to work when they always do then they come home and watch TV all night. If time and money permit, we may take a 3 day vacation at some point. What do other families do that keep them so busy to where they have zero time to play any video games?
In my experience, it's the exact opposite. For school and college age gamers, the summer is the best time for gaming as that is when they have little to no prior school obligations. Aside from work, they can spend pretty much all their time playing video games and hanging out with friends. If GW2 released in the summer, I think it would sell better than you think. As I mentioned earlier, gamers age 18-25 are more likely to make a purchase as they actually have the time to play, and the fact that there are so few other games in direct competition means GW2 might pick up a few extra buys from gamers who are simply bored with having no other decent games to play.

Actually, I believe ALL gamers would like it to release in the summer. How often do you read posts on gaming forums about the 'Gaming Drought" of summer and not having a game to play? I know I've read thousands of threads over the years saying that. Hell, including myself creating threads. I truly do not know why publishers hate to release during the summer when more people actually have more free time to play games.

The holiday season is really the money making period for games for obvious reasons, but the problem with that is the fact that because so many games get released in the holiday season, a lot of them get lost in the shuffle and don't really sell as well as they would have had they been released earlier in the year. A good example of this is Uncharted 3. I love the Uncharted series, but I didn't buy Uncharted 3 due to Skyrim, The Old Republic, and Saints Row 3 taking up all my time. Maybe other people bought Uncharted 3 over Saints Row 3. It's possible that we would have all bought both games had they been released farther apart from one another.
If all games released in the summer, you'd have the same problem only at a different time of the year. If only one or two major releases came out in the summer rather than in the fall/winter, I think the developers would be surprised at the amount of sales they would have.
My guess the release date will be around the late april to late may. reason for this they said that press beta is febuary then beta will be march/april so i would assume it would be round that time.
idealy they would prob want to release it before diablo 3 since that will be another bigger seller.

Philosophy of MMO Game Design
Well something big in the gaming world will have to be released on 12/12/12 so I'll say it's GW2.

I just hope it is the "second coming" and doesn't turn out to be a piece of overhyped... ahem!
