The orange is level 118. The battlemaster is level 140. Everything is better on the battlemaster and darth sions saber.
I said the best orange saber IF THE SCHEMATICS were working. By schematics I mean the purple grade 24-25 hilts schematics and such that drop from raids.
Also, the purple hilts, barrels, etc from dailies are 128 rating so you can replace the one in that one o.o Also...Take out the enhancements on the rakata light saber -> put it in the orange with augment -> add augment = better than rakata.
Also those are misleading because you cant remove the hilt from the rakata..just the mods and enhancements and color crystal.
Would you use the rakata saber if you can just transfer it to the orange+augment and get an extra 28 in a stat?

You're forgetting one thing. If you were to attempt to craft all of the mods and enhancements to equal the Rakata saber, it would be impossible for anyone but an Artificer.
No single person could craft all of those mods, because they are BoP and from different professions.
So your augment is maknig up for the fact that you can't craft all of the mods for yourself that are in the raid drop. You cannot make the mod, the enhancement, and the hilt on the same character, and they are all BoP. Unless of course you make one, ditch your profession, then grind it al lthe way back up and make the other. That would be crazy.
I don't see how it is possible to equal the high level purples with an orange unless you are artifice, and even then it's quite a stretch. You can't craft all the components yourself, and you can't rip them all out of the rakata gear.
I guess you're right that it technically could be made a little bit better, but not solely from crafting. You are not simply crafting the best lightsaber in the game. You are crafting an orange with an augment slot. Most of the stats in the saber are going to come from the Rakata gear.
Best I've ever found in a MMO. Almost a game in itself. I've started alts just to craft and gather more items. It's just great to send a companion off and periodically have a screen pop up with a reward.
My sandbox idea for awhile had been to basically run a small town where you command NPC crafters that strengthen your character class...this is basically the same thing only that town is a spaceship.
I hate crafting in general so not the best post to go by, but the swtor crafting was quite good. If i had to pick on anyting it would be the 50min+ resource runs but since i can gather materials on my own its not a big deal but stil i hate to wait 50 min!!!!!!!!!!
For themeparks this game has good crafting. Crafting can be done...well without actually doing anything related to crafting...which makes it good.
You dont need to go back to early maps to skill up your harvesting so you can harvest on the instances your currently running, for example, you just pay some credits and send a companion that isnt being used on them, up to 5. So with money its very easy to level it to max with no actual effort.
Thing is, like all themeparks. Theres no real good use for just about all the crafts, other than extreme specializations. Biomed is good so you can use reusable healpacks and stims (and everyone can use the normal stims which is good)
Other than that, as always, any gear made is underscored by raid gear, or pvp gear. Theres no "enchants" just modifications for reusable gear, which is lesser in preformance to pvp and raid gear, so really only usefull for leveling.
Then theres the craft skills that dont craft really anything and are just used to make money.
For a themepark the crafting is good since you dont have to put effort into it, just credits and waiting.
I hated crafting in other games because it would involve spending hours on end sitting on my ass instead of doing anything fun. The fact that I can gain skill in crafting while still playing the game makes it useful for me. I don't have to sit near a workbench or near a bank, loaded down with mats and crafting all damn day just to get skills. I've got companions and that's what they're for.
Plus, the fact that I can put all those mats in my cargo hold instead of carrying them around is a bonus. I can gain skills so I can make stuff for my guild and I can also play with my friends. It's win-win.
It's obvious their goal was to keep it simple, and since that's the case I'd say they did a good job with it. Since the game itself is mostly simple then I'd say that crafting falls inline with that design style.
If you compare it to something complex like SWG then it fails mightily in comparison.
No...I find it about as entertaining as any other facebook game.
I will say since what you gain is rather minimal least you can't complain it is a timesink.
This is one of the most comical attempts at crafting I have ever seen. Although least it isn't bugged to shit and there are a few items worth making least for the short term.
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
What crafting? Last i looked it was in shambles with only 1 maybe 2 worth the effort. Should have picked up on crafting from SWG, EQ2, Vanguard, Rysom, or some other good crafting mmo's. Lot of us actualy like the business aspect of mmo's and TOR realy didnt have that.
No I dont like the crafting in this game I want to go gather blue and epic materials not sit inside the station as another reason to stay there and send my companions to do it.
This is like..the first game where I was completely hooked with crafting. I mean..I was hooked with engineering in WoW but its more cuz tonk fighting was the best minigame ever..But still!
I really hope you ve been sarcastic, cause Swtopr crafting is the most useless feature seen in any MMO in the last few years.
It's just a pointless grind which doesn't give neither good gear to use or any good to sell, total fail IMO.
Umm? reverse engineering takes time and yes it is a money sink but it offers purple and orange gear which is the second best you can get in the game. Thing is that it takes lots of effort to get those versions and i doubt anyone would manage to unlock it in one month time.
Yes green and blue are easier to make but thats not the end, there is much more to discover. I think people just expect to reverse engineer a couple of armor peices and unlock legendary version of it.

Not at all. I never liked the concept since it was revealed and playing it hasn't improved my opinion. I want crafting to be an alternate form of gameplay. Vanguard and EQ2 are examples of the crafting I want. Not only is TOR crafting not that, it is even further from what I want than any other MMO. At least in most games I am actually involved, however shallowly, in crafting. In TOR I send my companions away for a time, they come back with stuff. This isn't crafting, it's a lottery. People who like this system are those who dislike actually crafting.
Anyways, yes i enjoy crafting. It is pretty different from your standard WOW / Rift style crafting so i enjoy it. Using companions for crafting is a nice touch. I do all the gathering myself though as scavanging missions can break your bank.
Every recepie has an epic and legendary version and i give myself 6 months time to be even able to discover half of those.

Like the game..... crafting is ONLY for the casual player. If you look under the hood its poor design becomes readily apparent(tomorrow is my last day).

I don't mind it. I think there are a few new elements, but overall, nothing really new. I'm not sure yet, I'll see what they do with it in the future.

I don't like it at all.
There's no exploration involved or skill-based harvesting and crafting.
