Massive content coming to TERA

KumaponKumapon Member EpicPosts: 1,605

I know the news around here hasn't been the greatest. But sometimes maybe even bad PR is better than no PR at all. TERA is finally getting well known, and I've herd they have gotten over 32,000 sign ups since news broke out about the lawsuit, as people are finally getting know what this game is about, and are checking the site.

Anyways I'm here to talk about the content that is gonna be coming to K-TERA, in the next few months and will be coming to NA TERA.

Dynamic Content

image

The current lvl quests will be rewritten to accommodate the new Dynamic Content being introduced. This is pretty much Public Quests. Almost like Rifts, in Rift. Monsters fall from the sky and can attack and take over cites and settlements.

These pics come from Variance, it's in Hungarian but it's one of the best fan/guild sites on Tera.

Also at the end of February K-Tera will be getting a massive new patch:

-New maximum LvL
-New Skills
-New open and instance dungeons
-New Raid content
-New PVP raid content
-Induce new cosmetic items

You can read about it here
http://tera.hangame.com/community/go.nhn?bbsid=941&docid=4530116

Cori did a nice translation, and posted some pics
https://forum.tera-europe.com/showthread.php?t=26686

I can't grantee this will be in the NA version at launch, but I've gotten word that EME will be doing their best to make it happen. If not it will be coming in a expansion soon after.

I'll post more soon!

    Sounds awesome.

Hopefully En Masse does include this update in the NA launch. It would be very stupid to launch the game then have this update come out a month later and completely change everything.

  • GanatharGanathar Member Posts: 143

I'm pretty sure that EME will include the first patch with the "Dynamic Content" but I don't think they will include the 2nd one.

This is my opinion of course but I think a staggered release of this patch after launch will cause TERA to have more retention, that's assuming of course that enough people know about TERA by then so that the game can launch with more than just the fans. NCsoft are doing a good job of making TERA known though so we will see how this pans out.

I think there are many people who would like a long leveling arc. Myself included.

I loved that in Lineage 2 it was very difficult to get to max level. I suppose it all depends on how the rest of the game plays out.

I'm ready, I've signed up, it's go time.

Dymanic content and public quests changes my entire opinion of this game now.

Unfortunately it's releasing around the same time as GW2 in the states.

no its more like , ding max lvl do 1-2 raid instance thats available, next patch higher lvl, do it a gain, redo raids, like expansion that raises lvl cap, its not just oh we decided our quests can grant another 10 lvls easily, so we increased max lvl by 5 and still being safe,

imagine tera launches in na/eu with that update, you lvling along and you hit for example lvl 50, ( previous endgame ) and now all instances/raids are meaningless as you go 10 lvls more and all brand new raid

Very interesting considering the recent lawsuit raised by Ncsoft. Not to don a tin-foil hat or anything, the coincidence of it all seems rather perfectly timed if nothing else. What I mean by that is, before this type of announcement it might have seemed unlikely Tera was looking to fill the gaps GW2 was aiming to, outside of the "Actiony" combat there wasn't exactly a similar goal in what they were offering players. The buzzwords are key really when it comes to advertising, "dynamic content", seems to be a rather direct challenge to GW2, not to mention the chance for these to effect towns, etc...

To me really in this regard if they can offer something similar to DE's in GW2 TEra may actually have a one up on GW2 in that it fosters a real political climate for players to govern. That seems far more important to the nature of the MMO to me. It's much more "virtual" world (IMO), the idea of competition and e-sporting GW2 will foster seems more akin to gaming, at least more so than the idea of players being in a world.

Tera just moved way up on my "watch this" list.

The thing most killing this game is the insane "localization".  No I don't mean art changes.  I mean the amount of time it is taking.  Interest for this game has fallen off a cliff due to the time it's taking.

People need to stop speculating or posting Non-factual comments.

GW2 has no release date yet.

TERA releases on May 1st, 2012.

    Hope that helps. :)

This game's "dynamic" content is meerely WAR PQ's, just like SWTOR is planning, just like TSW and just like what MoP will bring to WoW. they're literally static quests that don't affect the world or change to compensate player activity or numbers. this is why GW2 has loading screens between zones, the event system actually affects the game world. going to the same place at the same time on different servers won't have you seeing the same exact things going on.

they need to go live either during GW'2 open beta or near its launch window. it will go a long way to showing the difference, and really help in selling GW2.

every game with PQ's sparks the usual "oh but how will this affect GW2's appeal" talk. how did Rift do? there's more people waiting for a GW2 pre-order date than there are playing it. GW2 is the most talked about thing it that game's general chat.

Who cares? Not everyone is going to play GW2 just like not everyone played GW1, you people act like there's only a small number of MMO players and one game is going to consume them all. Flawed logic.

In a youtube video someone said all quests are go kill quests.

    But this isn't new:

    www.mmorpg.com/discussion2.cfm/thread/313715/Teras-future-plains-20112012.html

    By Q2 2012 - Q2 2013, Tera will have:

Politics (no factions open world PVP, guild wars, elections)

Server vs Server PVP (Invasions and shared areas for 3 or more servers)

Rifts (Even if they are just basic PQs, it's cool)

Sounds like an awesome open world PVP game, GW2 is more about esports pvp and instanced battlegrounds, less sandboxy IMO

    It's free.

Other games make you pay 50$ for 4 hours of new quest content and recycled raids.

This is nuts, a lot of old K-Tera players are going to be popping out of th woodwork to test out this content.  Don't feel bad if you guys can't get into K-Tera, there will be tons of videos and streams of all this new content.  Just check the streams thread somewhere in this forum.

Also about the killing things.  The questing in Tera is just like pretty much like every other MMO minus voice acting, better combat mechanics and much better mob AI.  One thing I would like to mention is how they made it very easy to group in this game compared to other MMOs.  There's an open party system where it if's not set to private you can immediately jump into another group and start killing stuff together.  In Tera, everybody in your group shares credit for quest items, this makes those "collect X" quests more tolerable in a group compared to other MMOs.  Plus of course you have a fair amount of BAM quests and Open World dungeons people with always asking for groups for.  I guess what I'm saying is that the leveling feels better to me in Tera then other MMOs, especially since it doesn't punish players for grouping for content outside of dungeons.

There's one major difference between these and WAR PQ's, they can have a real effect on the world.

No different the Rifts from Rift. Those were interesting at first then became nothing more then boring grind or a leveling hinderence.

Only played a short period of beta when it comes to Rift (the only rift I saw was the one you do in the tutorial), I wasn't aware whether Rift's rifts had an effect on cities and towns or not.

Not sure why people knock the PQs in WAR or the rifts in Rift - the problem with PQs in WAR was mainly that they were in the context of the terrible game that was WAR.  Rifts were more fun, IMHO, but still, limited mainly just by how much you like the rest of that game and its mechanics.  I don't think there was anything inherently wrong with PQs or rifts.  They were a nice twist on normal mob spawns, if nothing else.

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

They don't have an impact on major towns, but can have a temporary impact on outposts and small quest hubs.  Anywhere there is a wardstone can be subject to an invasion.  If the invasion is huge a solo or duo set of players might not be able to flip it back, especially at low to mid levels.  A small group of players 3+ shouldnt' have too much trouble flipping a planar foothold.  They're meant to offer minor landscape changes and hurdles, not long term impediments or game flow changes.

As for TERA I have no intention of ever playing this.  They stole code and game system.  It's reprehensible.

They MADE those codes and then altered and polished them after leaving. Half of the team left NCsoft for a good reason, most of their stuff wasn't even copyrighted and the stuff that was wasn't taken, anyone with a decent IQ dont mess with copyrights. BHS recreated some of the stuff but differently , greedy NCsoft is just pissed and seek every possible way to get $ out of this. They also wanted a decent profit from their crappy aion with the 3.0 patch and now most will ignore it because the good and innovative mmo of their former employees is around the corner.

It's just two different possibilities.  We don't know whether BHS are thieves, or if NCSoft are the real thieves - it is a lawsuit after all, which is basically attempted thievery, when unfounded.  Personally, I prefer to assume innocent until proven guilty.  I don't get why some people are so quick to assume guilty until proven innocent, instead.
