I don't know if I should be angry at EA or Bioware...because as much as Bioware's name is all over the game, it was EA's pressure to get the game out that got us an incomplete game.
Looking at the history of both companies..EA has more black marks, so I'll go with history and blame EA. Hopefully the game will recieve another content patch soon, an expac within a year of release and it'll get rolling.
We need a non-fantasy MMO, and there are parts of this game that are excellent, and parts that aren't.
But Bioware is the company that is managing the day-to-day operations, and it is Bioware who continues to make stumbles -- like tonight -- that are making the players hate them.
Also:
1) It was Bioware who originally chose the Hero engine, and who decided to stay with it when it was clearly shown to be not up to the task of handling the game they built on top of it.
2) It was Bioware who continuously missed development watermarks; and whose inability to design and polish quickly enough was finally revealed to the world when EA -- after pushing release back from early summer of 2011 -- threw up its hands in frustration and booted the game out the door in December, still quite unfinished.
3) It was Bioware who didn't get the memo about a thousand different odds and ends in modern MMOing -- adjustable UI, combat windows, a user-friendly auction house, endgame that doesn't merely revolve around raiding/warzones -- and who continues to develop aimlessly even post-launch.
When TOR fails -- and that is all but a foregone conclusion at this point -- it will be remembered as a Bioware failure, and justifiably so. I hope they wear this game like an albatross around their necks for the rest of eternity.
bioware brings down the game at the worst times ever. midnight on a friday? REALLY!!!!??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
and they also disabled any posting on the forums at all!!! REALLY??!!! Now i cant even complain in all caps there?!!!
Midnight of Friday and day time for others on Saturday. So what is the best time for maintenance?
I know, right. Cause it's the middle of the freaking night where the BW Austin folks are which means they are up in the middle of normal sleeping periods to try to make a "COMPUTER GAME" better for people to play.
And people are pissing and maoning all over them.
Tells where people's priorities are in life and alot of other things about them too. *shrug*
It's like bringing a man dying of thirst in the middle of the desert a canteen of water and them yelling at you because it isn't Perrier(tm). smh
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Which of course makes the need for separate US and EU maintenance times all the more obvious
Not that I'm against separate server maintenance times, but I'm willing to be there were a lot of US players just as pissed and screwed by this. Just sayin'...
1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.
2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.
3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.

Closing down their own forums is an admission of guilt. It is tantamount to saying 'yeah, we did just drop that in your collective laps with no warning for no reason, but since we don't care about you, or care to hear your (justified) frustration, we'll be closing down the forums now, mmkay?'
Bioware sucks. We should have known this was coming when DA:2 turned out to be a total joke. I hope, when EA announces that the game is going F2P in 6 months, that they quietly fold all Bioware operations into their own, and fire 90% of the former programmers, laying waste to this company forever.
Yeah, it's down and that blows. That said, it's only 4 hours, not 6 or 8. Watch a movie or two , make yourself something to eat and before you know it the servers will be back up.
For the folks who only have this particular time frame to play due to your job, well, 1) I'd hate to have your job and 2) this is something you'd have to deal with with any new MMO that has launched in recent times.
It's all about prioritizing your time. I know the vast majority of people don't put gaming near the top of that list of their leisure activities. They tend to be the most upset when a MMO is getting maintenance and the 2-3 hour block that they have set aside out of a 168 hour week falls within that time frame.
Bioware is learning how to do this whole MMO thing. This is their first time at the dance. In their second month. If anyone in this genre (MMOs) deserves a break to get their feet under them for at least the first 6 months it's them.
That's not to say not to maintain expecting them to follow through and make things better. It is saying give them a chance to get some "live" experience withthe game and learn and fine tune their internal practices.
Oh, and if it honestly bothers/angers anyone that much, quit. Cause hollow meaningless threats on random forums (or even the BW) don't scare or mean anything to anyone other than the person who writes them. And with this title being this new, they are probably still getting an equal or slightly greater number of new subscriptions than thouse that are leaving.
Anyway, I'm gonna go make some food and watch some movies. Then I'll log back in in now, what, 3 hours and 17 minutes.*
*Provided they have the servers up
It's all well and good to give them time. Not like I'm even considering cancelling my sub because of a few missteps. It's the apparent smugness that comes with it by not addressing any problems. There's no "We're working on it, we messed up this or that." It's "This game is awesome and we're making it better."
I mean atleast its' not the "Our game is the best, and if you don't like it its your problem" verbage you get from Blizzard..but it still leaves a lot to be desired.
Just give me a real apology for the maitenance and I'd be cool not "sorry for the inconvienence" copy-and-paste crap.

I'd say, separate maintenance times for each areas. Tuesday night for all areas. And if this is an emergency downtime, they should say so. Otherwise many other things they say will also be smoke and mirrors...
All other MMOs I know do this. And I don't give a rats ass about stressing their employees, that's what they get paid for and no one is forcing them to work in the gaming industry.

The way FB's rationalize downtimes, bugs, poor implementation, copycat design, and put up with lame marketing tactics while their credit/debit/checking acounts get dinged is about as good as it gets.
Well at least I get to look forward to watching Socket, Locket, Pocket or whatever her name is reviewing this game.

Yeah, because listening to all those people cry and moan is really going to expediate them doing their jobs. Sorry, the only thing letting people cry and moan does is slow down their network, which makes it harder to get things done.
If you don't think they don't already know that people are upset about not being able to play a game, wow...well, I don't know what to say. And based on your last paragragh I'm wondering 1) why you are even still playing and 2) why do you even follow and comment since it angers you so.
You could be writing the world's next great novel or something. You know, spending time doing something positive that that you enjoy?
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Which of course makes the need for separate US and EU maintenance times all the more obvious
Not that I'm against separate server maintenance times, but I'm willing to be there were a lot of US players just as pissed and screwed by this. Just sayin'...
Of course. A server downtime during fairly popular playing hours will disappoint people no matter what region it is.
There will be times when something unexpected happens and needs to be fixed straightaway. Can live with that. It's the planned downtimes that need looking at, and it wouldn't be ground breaking to have US and EU maintenance/patch times done separately. SWTOR has separate servers based in the EU for that region. Sure it's a US company, but so is Trion and they've recognised that the world is round and has different timezones.
I don't think I've ever seen a game where people actually complain about frequent patches like I see with this game.
It's mind boggling. Would your rather have them not patch the game and try to fix the problems?
People complain about the exploits and gamebreaking bugs, then they do emergency patches to fix the worst offenders and people complain about that. If they didn't do the emergency patches everyone would be complaining about how they are lazy and aren't doing anything to fix the big issues.
I beg to differ. Ever see The English Patient? An ex of mine rented that and we both fell asleep during it trying to watch it.
Twice...
They can take those Oscars that movie won and shove it.

Welcome to 2012 -- the information age. Bioware knew this was coming. The population could have known too, hours and hours ago, had they been so kind as to treat us like human beings.

Well, I have a wife and a 6 month old, I follow NFL (SF 49ers), MLB (Texas Rangers) and English Soccer (Man U) and World Cup (Germany!!) religiously. So do my group of close friends. That said, I put aside hours of my time to game. My friends do too.
Now, I'm not judging how you juggle your freetime. That is not my place. I'm just saying if you want to ensure you'll get more "uptime" playing, then you might want to allocate more time to gaming. That's all.
As for separating US and EU servers, if EA/BW has the manpower to do it, I got no issue with it.
I'm just saying give them time to get their "live" processes down. No one here has started something brand new and done it perfect within the first month or two.

If you don't think they don't already know that people are upset about not being able to play a game, wow...well, I don't know what to say. And based on your last paragragh I'm wondering 1) why you are even still playing and 2) why do you even follow and comment since it angers you so.
You could be writing the world's next great novel or something. You know, spending time doing something positive that that you enjoy?

lmao worst movie ever
MMO's have downtime. Welcome to 1999.

I beg to differ. Ever see The English Patient? An ex of mine rented that and we both fell asleep during it trying to watch it.
Twice...
They can take those Oscars that movie won and shove it.
You're embarrassing yourself.

meh, so you can post a picture....good for you
Welcome to 2012 -- the information age.
