They are calling it a sandbox and are going to have a release date with access keys. As in it's an actual product, not just dreamware. I'm a little stunned to be honest.

I'll definitely follow it, but I'm not sure what to think of it.

Great IP for an MMO, couldn't undertsnad why it was canceled. Being JW I would have though they would have given it the benefit of another season at least.

Adored the show, but a MMORPG... I would rather not.

The magic of the show came from the chemistry of script/ people/ time/ place and how can that be replicated in a game like this?

I will give it a fair look though. It might scratch my itch to play an Elite type of game.

any fans of Firefly will be disappointed as it bears little if any resemblance to the TV show,  beyond a few names for things, i have to wonder if the dev's of this game even watched a single episode...

(sigh)  I am containing my hopes.  STO failed (in my eyes).  ToR is failing.. I will not allow my love for a show to be so easily preyed upon.

That being said, Nathan Fillion keeps bringing up a continuation idea for the series.. Would this be enough to sell that to a network?

This game has been killed off & ressurected a few times now, I would hold out more hope if I'd seen a half-way recognisable name behind it but that hasn't happened yet.

Could easily see this going on like Stargate did.

I get the feeling this is heading towards a browser based game, like Battlestar Galactica Online. 

I loved the Firefly Universe but its just not big or diverse enough to make an MMO out of IMHO

Last I heard, this developer didn't even have permission to use the Firefly IP.  What happened to that?

 

This whole thing sounds rather shady if you ask me.

It's a fan fiction type thing. I'm not sure how the rules for that type of thing works, but I think they can set the game in that universe so long as they don't use any of the recognized characters from the series.

On January 2, 2012 website Ten Ton Hammer uncovered documentation that Multiverse, the team behind both the Buffy The Vampire Slayer and Firefly MMO projects, had ceased operation on both games as of December 7th, due to lack of funding. However, on January 5, 2012 former members of the Mutiverse team announced that they had acquired the source code, and were still working to develop a finished product.

Hell Yeah! But not as playable characters, as NPCs / companions / bosses or something.

They should pop up fairly regularly. Like if you goto a planet, the Serentiy crew just happen to be sitting in the bar getting drunk...and invite you to join them on a mission/quest, or just have a chat.

Certainly it'll capture the witty scripts and interesting characters of the shows -- script and character depth are strongpoints of MMORPGs, right?  ...er...right guys?

I have to admit though, firefly fans are an amazing group of people.  They are still around, even after all this time.  I ran into someone dressed as a browncoat this halloween even hah.

And they are nuts about community projects, they will pour themselves into something like this, including their time, energy and money until it does well.

But that doesnt mean I think it will do well, I just think it won't die.
