I had fun for awhile leveling up. around level 20ish i got real tired of the voice crap for every single quest space bar became my friend really quick. but i do admit i still listened to the class story because it was interesting and my guy got to kill people alot for darkside points.
but as the game goes on it quickly becomes the same game as all the other themepark games, you pretty much can go the whole game without dieing its really easy, and the maps are so linear you never have to worry about getting lost or exploreing. its the typical hold your hand and make sure your safe all the way to 50 type game.
I played on a pvp server and i think i ran into maybe 3 people from the other faction in 50 levels. personally i like pvp in MMOs so this game was a very big dissapointment for myself, in fact this game is probably the worst pvp i have ever seen in a MMO.
seriously i have played free games with better pvp than this. but if you like pve then give it a shot you will probably have some fun, hell even if you only play a month at least you had fun durring the free month right?
I'm curious, and please do not take this as an attempt to put you in a bad light. I really am curious on this point. You mention that around level 20 you tired of the VO in quests right. In previous MMORPGs that you played, did you read all the quest text for every quest that you got? Or did you accept and look at the quest short cut information on the tracker to do the questing?
What I'm trying to find out is if there is a common point when you look at peoples play style on this issue.
(DISCLAIMER - The use of the word YOU in the above post is not directed at any one person in particular, but towards those who fall into the category itself - there is no personal attack here, neither intentional nor implied.)
No. Listen to the forums. It's really a bad game but tries to trick you with voice acting.
Yeah listen to the forums... lol!
Do that and you will never enjoy or play a MMO again. Don't be silly.

Stopped after reading...and agreeing with this ^
These forums are NOT a good source for what to play. Just a source of info for you to ponder. I see far too many uneducated, uninformed, asshats to take anything here too seriously. Unless you know the person posting...
Just wanted to put my two cents in. I'm a big fan of mmorpg.com and i actively read the news, articles, and forums.
I have been reading alot about how people did NOT like SWTOR and how its such a bad game and lacks so much innovation the quest cinematics are overrated etc etc etc
I almost didnt try the game after all the horrors i read. I have played many MMO's (and have become bored by them) such as WOW.
Sure this game is more of the same from wow, but i think the cinematic quests make ALL the difference in the world. That alone is enough of a reason to check this game out. Will def hold you over if you, like me, are waiting for GW2!
Also one of the things that bored me in wow was the same old spell visuals and the slow combat.
Guess what, updated visuals and a notch faster then wow in combat.
One complaint is that in terms of being a 2011-2012 game, the graphics are crap. RIFT was levels above SWTOR graphics wise.
But yeah, so try it! you may love it, don't let the forums tell you!
Infinite Empire Server Sith Warrior "Dhominus" is my server and toon.
or you may not. Put your money down and spin the wheel.
(seriously though, I think most here know if this is their game or not by now,and if they are willing to put up with it's issues at this time, your a little late with this push)
Casual players enjoy this game while hardcore players hate it.
If you are a casual gamer then you will probably like this game--there is a lot to like, regardless of what the "experts" think.
If you are looking for an infinately complex MMO that you can spend endless hours playing every week then you should look elsewhere.
I agree with this..and though I have a long MMO background and like the game, I admit I am still a casual player. I agree, if I was hardcore, maybe this wouldn't be my first choice. I'm only casual because I just don't have as many hours as others do here to play games..especially while playing two at once with a full time job mixed with other social activities :-)

I'm pretty casual these days and I didn't really like the game at all. It has nothing to do with being hardcore or how many hours a day you play. It is just a matter of personal preference. ToR doesn't offer anything for me that hasn't already been done and done better by other MMOs on the market today.
I agree with the OP you should just try it and judge it for yourself.
The OP is right and i did try it before i formed my own opinion: The game is a very restricted singleplayer/Coop game with low-res textures, bad lighting/shadows, bad classes (diversity and talent trees), little content and a crapload of baseline mmorpg-features missing which are standard ever since even in 10 year old games.
Other than that: despite it's a StarWars game, unlike the movies there is no emphasis on journey, travel or space combat worth mentioning.
How many people on this website haven't played SW:TOR and go around talking about it here?
If someone has enough interest in the game to write posts here, either negative or positive, then I'm pretty confident that that person has also played the game by now.
I think many people like myself are tired of theampark (static worlds) were the only impact you can have on the game is what gear you put on... You can play 5000 thousand BGs but nothing will happen, nothing will change.. you as a player have zero impact on the game world = BORING....
Also there are alot of Free to play games these days, that play exacly like SWTOR ( game mechanics, tank and spank, holy trinity etc etc) Star trek online, DDO, LOTRO, AOC, Pirates of the burning sea... the list goes on and on.. why pay for it when you can play it for free.. or spend much less Money in a chash shop...
Or I can keep playing the last sanbox game EvE online were my actions actually effect other people...
Or if I want voice acting and solo play and FUN story I can play Skyrim.... no mothly fee there, and I have loged about 300 hours on that game now... for much less money then BW/EA is charging for a subpar gaming experince..
It is a good co op / small group game to play to kill a few hours a week with a friend or 2. As a Massive Multiplayer game it falls very short of the mark IMO.
I played it for a few weeks and feel I got my moneys worth, dont regret the purchase at all. Even recommend it to a friend based on the small group co op style play. It actually fits perfect in his schedule which is a couple of hours a week most weeks.
To me not worth the $15 a month to play that casual and there are better b2p or f2p games that fit the bill for co op. As a B2P game this would be a very worth while game IMO, just not as a sub game.
I had fun for awhile leveling up. around level 20ish i got real tired of the voice crap for every single quest space bar became my friend really quick. but i do admit i still listened to the class story because it was interesting and my guy got to kill people alot for darkside points.

in most MMOs that i have tried i just skip past all the chat and go strait to the big circle on the map showing me were to kill my boars.
BUT the most fun i ever had was in a game that didnt have NPCs giving out quest, you had to actually explore the land and find them on your own or ask others who had a cool item and maybe they will tell you were they got it.
honestly im totally burnt on the themepark quest system, if its NPCs typeing to me the quest or telling me in voice. its still the same quest ( go kill 20 of this ) or ( go half way around the world and give this box to so and so ).
Formed an initial opinion based on what information I was able to gather from some of the discussions here.
Strengthened that opinion by watching my buddy and his girlfriend play the game.
Went against my opinion and payed for his first sub payment so I could try the game for myself.
Final opinion ended up worse than initial and observative opinions.
End result, shoulda went with initial opinion instead of spending the $15 and giving TOR a sub tally for the month. Coulda been worse, I coulda actually purchased this garbage like my buddy did (and he bought 2 copies at that) against my warnings. He bought into IP and the track records of the dev's and got burnt.

I don't give a damn what everyone says and I try every mmorpg there is unless the mmorpg is a futuristic one with lazers and whatnot so that's why I didnt try or plan to try Star Wars. I love the movies and have a good collection with all movies and behind the sceenes and other extras.
For example almost everyone in here trash talks FFXIV but i don't care I really enjoy playing FFXIV and actually at the moment to me it's the best MMORPG i ever played so far 2nd is FFXI.
I'm looking forward to play TERA, GW2, and ArchAge no matter what the reviews or anyone says I judge myself
I also want to add this site is a HATERS site they hate every game, no game is reviewed b the posters in a good light.
For every person who likes a game you'll have 10 saying they hate the game.
That is why I only come to this site to see whats new. I find the posters are angry most likely they only have xboxs and very old PC's.
Just my thoughts on MMORPG
Naa,it's full of people with higher expectations than you and who are tired of the same ol crap being pumped out by the industry over and over and over again.Especially retreads that have a sky high budget and fail to release a suitable product for launch.
Most people who post here have formed an opinion and expressing it! Some happy some not so much. A lot of the comments are not the game itself is bad but more so that game does not feel or play like an MMO along with the lack of features many have come to expect.
My opinion is this game needed at least another 3-4 months of work before it was released. Bench marking this game against other Bioware products I think many were expecting much more than they got. If this game was released as a single player/coop game using the guild wars model it would have been better received but as a MMO...for many it just does not fit what they have come to expect with that title.
Every once in a while I check this game out, looking at its forums or peeking in the ones here. I'm a big SW fan and really want to like this game, but I just don't think I can. I played in beta and was really turned off by the following:
-holy trinity. In Star Wars? Really? Tank, DPS, Heals. It just feels so out of place
-lack of meaningful pvp. Or really lack of penalty for dying in general. I guess this is the norm nowadays, but I wish it weren't
-same old quests. I'm a Jedi and you need me to kill x space rats? Can't you get a janitor to go do that?
-Linear gameplay. I'm just not a fan of it.
I'd love to try this game in the hopes that it's changed or that I'm wrong, but I just can't justify spending money to do so.
I would if it didn't cost over 60% of a hundred dallers just to try it. This in its' self is why I don't think it's going to be any gone. A secure company that realy beleive in their game would give a trial.
I did play the beta and I disliked it. I felt bored. Part of my vocal disapointment for the game derives from the fact that a dedicated RPG franchise was turned into a cartoon story with cartoon choices. What annoys me is that TOR is suppose to be considered the conclusion of the TOR franchise and BW has made choices that ensured no one could ever fix the mess. Knowing that TOR is the end is saddening.
What also worries me is how much praise MMORPG.com staff seems to lavish upon this game. I know that sounds perhaps negative if not grim, but I just cannot shake the belief that without the Star Wars IP that this game would not receive the same attention. Perhaps that is the name of the game, but it still bothers me.
Let me clarify, I am sure others are enjoying the game, but I just do not see the hype, especially not now.

$60..... I have shared my SWTOR experiances to save people from wasting $60...Not everyone can afford to waste $60
This sounds like an advertisement.

I tried, got bored, and now im here
I can't point many flaws in the game that are outside of PvP, but I really despise bioware for wasting 200 millions with a "good enough" game

Let's refrain from personal attacks.
Played a GS to 50.......... unsubbed , unistalled .. terrible ,boring , linear repetive game..
But i tried , just a really all around bad game imo..
