What's the bad things about TERA?

I want to hear about the bad things. It's easy to find praise for the game on the internet. What about the critics?

Most of the Koreans that I know thought the game was wonderful. But it did have some warts.

One of the reasons why it didn't do very well there was because of the fast lvl'ing speed. TERA has a lvl'ing speed just like RIFT's or TOR, and for some reason Koreans love long grinds.

So most Koreans ended up at end game with little to nothing to do. At end game there was just 3 PVE instances and 2 BG's with no political system. Most got bored and just quit.

BHS has since added the political system, and content. But most Koreans just went back to Aion and forgot about TERA.

Another wart was the PVP deceleration system. You had to spend gold to PVP someone, and then wait for 10 seconds for the player to respond. It made PVP into a horrible mess. But BHS has just recently dropped this system in favour of Guild vs Guild and the outlaw system. IT's defenitly brought a breath of fresh air.

Those were the warts off the top of my head, but they have both been somewhat fixed. The PVE endgame content is still a bit lacking though. But there is a massive content patch coming at the end of February.

I thought it was the other way around?

You have the normal "Asian MMO" stigma that comes with any game not made from a good old fashion american based company. There  are legal issues surrounding the game with NCSoft over code use.  Overall the game looks  very nice graphicly but it is very extreme on exaggerations, such as  insanely big males and females that would have to had surgery to have that many curves.  The combat would most likely be the most fun part about the game as it is somewhat different but not entirely new or some form of arcane art you have to spend 3 months learning.

You asked for Bad but TERA is no more bad than  your standard MMO I'd  say it's Rift almost.  A bit of new a lot of the same interesting enough that it might become your new favorite thing or last you a month or two of fun and move on.

One of the first open world dungeons they made (the mines at lvl28-29) has a few bugged mobs in it (they well reset on you).  I think problem with the mine is becasue they made the walls too narrow and that makes the pathing on the mobs kinda gimped.

For the Korean version (not sure how the west version will be set up) open world pvp starts at lvl40 which seems kinda high.  You will see no PK below that level, and not much owpvp overall at higher levels because they do not give any incentive to pk outside of GvG owpvp.  This may be a good though because there is no reward exploting nor ganking much in the open world.

It can be a bitch to enchant your weapon and armor to +9 or +12 due to rng,  but overall the enchant RNG is not as bad as most games and gear is easy to come by (even legendary items) but still its RNG.

It's a quest based game,  so if you don't like questing your shit out of luck unless you skip the yellow quest and just do the Campaign quest / Instances / Bams.

Some people consider skimpy armor / Lolcat race / and elins a turn off  ~srugs~

Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...

-Definitely content issues over in KR and JP, but we've been reassured that those mistakes won't be repeated over here. For whatever that's worth. And there IS a lot of truth to the stereotype of asians liking their heavy grinding, so you could theoretically twist that into a positive, depending on your preferences.

-There were also concerns about excessive subscription prices, depending on who you believe. But we've been given our rates, and they're right in line with all the other triple-A's here. No lifetime subscriptions being sold, although even selling 12-month subscriptions out of the gate makes me slightly leery. Probably just being paranoid, though.

-The game is going to live and die by it's combat system, for better or for worse.

-It's not so much that I mind the explicit female clothing, but the only other reliable option is to roll a male character. The lack of choice rankles, tbh.

That the means of progression would not be mutually exclusive from the means of enjoyment.

My biggest reservations is the lack of PvP options. With no factions, noone is ever going to be flagged... Ontop of that, guild wars only last 24 hours... ontop of that, your getting some stacking debuff for no reason for pking.

So all your going to get reliably is repative battlegrounds and no reason for world pvp since everyones blue.

Maybe I'm missing something. I just think archage is going to be much better for pvp than tera... but i'll probably get both, and gw2 at some point since its b2p anyways.

The game is pretty awesome, I played the Korean version so dont take everything i say for granted. I played it until level 58, Now i havnt done too much pvp so i will focus on the leveling process and stuff. The quests in this game dont feel like a grind tbh, I have no way of explaining it... It just keeps you interested the whole time even though the quest is sometimes a "kill 10 of something" Its to do with the combat but still, very impressive on that account. Only bad thing in the KOREAN TERA ( things could be changed for us) is the lack of PVP in lower levels (now this could be because i started a little late) The BGs are designed for higher levels in K-Tera and i really hope that NA changes that.

The Open world pvp is very impressive but the penalties suck in K-tera ( This will be changed in NA version 100%, Just not sure how they will change it). In this game, you always get a choice of leveling by your self or doing group quests. Both ways work really well and it promotes grouping with randoms in your area ALOT. I dont speak korean but i grouped with so many people in order to do quests with them. TBH the game is community driven so most of the Bad points would be because of the community at most times. Now remember if someone says "there is no end game" or anything of that kind....I can tell you that its BS. The PVP system alone should cover most of that for any pvper out there. They also got unit collusions outside of towns and in instances etc. Inside, its turned off( very smart move). So far, The Bad things were a bare minimum that they never really bothered me at all. I hope that helped you a little ^-^ and Remember that everything i mentions could be changed in NA.

EDIT* OH yes i forgot to say, The current game size for K-TERA is around 25GB, i heard That the NA version will be around 36-38GB so the content for us will be HUGE i say.

My gf really wants us to play this game... personally, I can't stand the character models which look roided up, effeminitie and transexual or way too cutesy.

I couldn't see myself enjoying the game while I'm facepalming over the character options.

The graphics for the game look great and the world design looks great too... but just about everything else is offputting to me.  It's just not the game for me so... sorry gf, gotta disappoint you... I'll probably give it a try for her but I'm quite sure I'm not going to be able to get past the offputting characters.

So, Tera has fast leveling? That kind of sucks for a player like me. I like the journey, and a long one at that. I might be a minority, but I like xp off option, and I hate leveling so easily. Can anyone confirm if it s really that fast, and if so, is there a xp off option?

for me the things i did not like about this game were:

    1) Elin/Popori races. i could handle the Popori race but the Elin are just sooo "thong wearing children with cat ears holding huge weappons".....this is where i stop trying to understand korean tastes. i would actually feel a little perverted every time one would go by on my screen, and in KTera there were A LOT of them :(

    2) using animation as a globa cooldown. this feature, much like Aion, seems to be the standard asian mmo thing to do. it makes for a stop/go/stop/go/stop/go kind fo combat. definately not my favourite, i much prefer the fluid combat WoW has. i hate feeling rooted to the ground every time i use a skill/spell.

    3) Mystiscs Orbs. i love the Mystic class but the orbs are so gay. what am i a chicken dropping eggs all over? why coudn't it have been totems or healing wells or even just potions or something?

    4) the Pvp system where you have to pay money to 'duel" somebody. thank god they are changing this one.

    5) the Castanics running animation. i understand they are supposed to be a dog like race all hunched over and stuff, but the female castanics look like they have a broken back and frankly there is way too much ass pointing twords my face.

having said that the game was actually really fun especially the aim based combat (even dispite the animation thing) and the graphics are just incredibly gorgeous. i could sit and watch my female elf Mystic sway her hipps for hours and never stop salivating :D. just incredible graphics.

I'm curious to know more, because I felt this was a HUGE issue with Rift.  It's not the I like long grinds, but I do feel that if you make leveling that fast, the game NEEDS a serious endgame.  Like, DAOC-grade endgame, not just an instance grind for gear.

What sort of content have the added?  Is it like Rift and AoC, how they keep adding more instances, or have the fleshed it out in other ways?  It's not just about how much they add, but how rewarding is it?  How varied is it?  There's PvP, but how have they made it meaningful to players who don't get into just ganking eachother for no reason?  Is the endgame content well integrated, or more like just tacked on minigames?

    When I want a single-player story, I'll play a single-player game. When I play an MMO, I want a massively multiplayer world.

the only standout features are the combat and graphics. it's really doesn't stray too far off the beaten path in any other area.

it also had a horrid pvp system, but i hear they are changing that.

Pay money to duel someone? LOL, I have heard of stupid ideas but that one takes the cake. I couldn't imagine this game being any good with a game company that would put such a stupid idea into a game, even if they are going to change it later.

My dislikes for TERA are the proposterously big mobs and weapons, the Korean artstyle and the Lineage 3 legal BS.

its run by horrible third party in both eu and na, while i cant say anything about na publisher , frogster on other hand was nothing but disapointment in any game they published , this sneak peak tells same story too, and just wait for  updates, not only original company is slow on updates, it will be 10 times slower for them to be implemented here

my assumption of your prepubescentness was derived by your statement that you do not feel any sexual arousal from any sort of pixelated sexually oriented material. the only logical conclusion can be that you are iether inhuman,  frigid or prepubescent. please do correct me if i choose the wrong one.

to try to imply that i am also in a prepubecent age even though we have already established that i am very well aroused by sexually oriented material, pixelated or otherwise, make absolutely no sense since puberty in it'self is the natural sexual development and awakening of sexual interest in humans.

if i was prepubescent then i would, much like you, feel absolutely no sexual arousal from any of it. please make more sense next time.

I suppose I'm the only one that does not see the Ellin as children. They look like smaller adults to me and children don't have bodies like that. But I guess if a character design is "smaller" than the other ones, they must be children.

As much as I hate to say it, the fast lvl'ing curve in K-TERA was a huge issue as well. People would out lvl the zones so fast, that they wouldn't be able to do all the low lvl content. The low lvl dungeons wouldn't get used, because people would out lvl them so fast. Also low lvl crafting was pretty useless as people would out lvl them so fast as well.

K-TERA's endgame is still not fleshed out very well. It has 9 5 man PVE dungeons, 2 BG's, the political system, BAM camping (super named mobs camping) and guild vs guild combat.

Now the current K-TERA build is 23.7 GB, and the NA TERA build is close to 38 GB. So there is a ton of content that will be in the NA version that wasn't in the Korean version. We will have to wait and see what it is.
