Did anyone pick this up and is playing it? I'm on the road a lot missing my mmo, but I have the ability to buy a PS3 and pick up this game ( I love the FF series), but after XIV, I'm kinda scared to blow $300+ just to keep me out of boredom if the game is going to suck.
I read a few reviews on how they compared it to the first installment of FFXIII , but I have not played that one either.

It's never a good idea to buy a whole system just for one game, especially the latter incarnations of Final Fantasy. For me, 10 was the last 'good' Final Fantasy, the rest have been fun on certain levels but never enough to keep me interested the whole way through. If it weren't for youtube, I'd never know the endings for 10-2, 12, 13 and soon 13-2. 13-2, the one you're asking about now, has the same battle system as 13, which is where a lot of the criticism of the game came from in the first place.
The original 13 also had almost no exploration to it, most of the world and ALL of the beginning-to-mid portion of the game is comprised of long cooridoors. That was off-putting to a lot of people. Not a bad game overall, but not a great one by any stretch, and 13-2 so far doesn't look to be anything different aside from storyline.
Check youtube, chances are someone is uploading a playthrough of the game. Watch them play the first half hour or so and see if it's something you could see yourself playing for many hours more.

FFXIII You literally walk down a road for the majority of the game, And not like FFX where there is lots of nice things to see...its just a gritty road.
Squaresoft has also public stated future instalments will be lower in scale.
Faith in the series has ended.

FFXIII-2 is a big improvement on the first on..
1. not as liniar anymore you get to explore around more in different time lines even
2. combat has improved now... u get to add any monster to your party (pokemon)
3. leveling has changed more so your not stuck on the one line to level up u can choose to level up a certain class
4. alot more customisation
so yeh watch some youtube videos theres alot of videos out there watch Totalbisuits play through its good, his obviously not a big fan of FF but tis a big first impression of the run through of the game
I'm sure theres more I only just started playing it like 30 mintues ago.. atm im liking it... but i wouldnt be going out buying a new system for it
agreed I'm not too far in(about 8 hours) but game is big improvement over first one.. only problem i have is lightning is not the main character like they advertise.. other than that having a good time

I enjoyed XIII but felt it could be improved upon, has that happened in XIII-2? I played the demo and it did seem better than the first....wanted to make sure the rest of the game had the same vibe.
so far almost everything has improved although I don't really care for the optional dialog thing they added since some of the choices are pretty dumb but overall enjoying the game a lot

I hate you all soooo much for playing this before me. Gotta wait till monday myself
BUT, i have watched tons of youtube videos on the game, and it looks to be MUCH of an improvement over 13.
That being said, i didn't really HATE 13, i enjoyed it enough to satisy my FF hunger for abit. The story didn't grip me that much, didn't relate to the characters. hopefully this one steps it up a notch.
I saw alot of similarities between 10 and 13, and have a feeling 10-2 and 13-2 will go along the same paths.
FF10- Save the whole world from big nasty. Same with 13. Very linear in both, though 10 was much better put together.
FF10-2 and 13-2, look for someone that was lost in previous title. Much looser story, more freedom to move about, etc. New twist on combat, etc. many similarities.
I see a trend in the two. ^_^
But i'll most definetely be getting it.
The Deep Web is sca-ry.
Thanks for your honest replies! I guess at this point I'll just borrow a PS and pick up an old copy of VII for like $10 and play that instead (since I somehow missed that one) but managed VIII - XI, XIV... I don't mind going back in time kinda to get the good story mind the technology- I guess it will be like a time machine for me.
Good luck getting the game for 10$, Last I looked the game was going for 75$ at one of my local game stores. If you want you can still pick up a ps3 and d/l ff 7 on hte playstation network for 10$(last i checked)
I enjoyed ff13 at least in how long I played it, Liked the battle system a lot and the story seemed pretty good as well. Did not even realize the game was out yet, maybe i will check it out.
