What about sales to non-mmo players?

I think that swtor might see some long term success by bringing new players into the mmo genre.

My wife has refused to even touch an mmo for the past six or so years even though she's an avid video game players. But she saw the voice acting, the scene cuts, and followed the storyline of one of my characters. Now she's playing swtor and she's hooked. No other mmo has attracted her attention like this one has.

For her, swtor is what wow was for me some years ago. It's an exciting new way to play a video game. Never mind that it's wow rehashed for some of us. For new players like my wife, getting into your first mmo is pretty cool. Now she's telling her non-mmo friends about it, and who knows, maybe some of those old ladies will pass up a night with their wii to go fight for the republic.

I don't know if her story is typical, but I can only think it has some growth potential for swtor.

I don't know if it will lead to long term success but they definitely brought in a lot of players new to mmos. I can see that just from my grouping experiences with them. Lot of first timers in this game.

    1. For god's sake mmo gamers, enough with the analogies. They're unnecessary and your comparisons are terrible, dissimilar, and illogical.

    2. To posters feeling the need to state how f2p really isn't f2p: Players understand the concept. You aren't privy to some secret the rest are missing. You're embarrassing yourself.

    3. Yes, Cpt. Obvious, we're not industry experts. Now run along and let the big people use the forums for their purpose.
