Player Perma Banned and then changed to a 10 day ban for asking people in his guild chat if the want

Not sure if this has made it on here yet. Basically this guy asked his guild mates in SWTOR if anyone wanted to swap some credits for WoW gold.

He was permanently banned

Just thought it was an interesting find.

trading credits for other game credits is still a form of gold farming. i am glad they are taking the strict approach.

And someone probably reported him for doing so....so i wouldnt trust his friends hehehehehehe

    Duh?

It'd be the same as buying gold off a website. Using one currency out of game to buy currency in game= ban.

EDIT- he didn't even get a perma ban, which he should have, just a week ban. Also, you should rename your thread title to 'Player Banned for asking guild members to trade gold across games'

I kinda thought gold farming involved selling it for real money and causing economy inflation.... if the guy had paid someone to run him through a low level flashpoint it would have had the same effect. I don't see where this desrved a ban especially not a permanent one

You may not understand why it is a bannable offence, but thats ok, you dont need to. This isnt a democracy, its a game company with rules. Break them, be prepared to pay the forfeit.

credit swapping is the same thing as gold farming. If say i offer to pay you 10000 TOR credits if you farm WoW for me for 2 days, you are exchanging services outside of the TOR Terms of Use for the game with another currency. Doesnt matter if its virtual currency or not, currency is still changing hands outside of the games currency.

If you paid someone in cash or wow gold to run you through a low level flashpoint. the same applies. now if you offer to help him in say a mission for a return of running you through a flashpoint, thats ok---cause all currency is TOR currency and staying within the game itself.

Doesn't matter what the trade consists of. If it's NOT IN THE GAME, it's not allowed. common knowledge. Sorry it took this long for you to learn that. hopefully this will protect you in future mmo's when an offer like this comes up. That way you won't get banned =P

Thats cool... i just thought I would bring it to everyone's attention what EA/BW considers an offense worth a perma ban... that way people are more informed before they choose to involve themselves with this particular game company.

So if you have a guild that is multi game (like the one im in) you have a better understanding of how you can and can't help each other across those multiple games while playing this one. And if you choose to talk to each other about swapping assets across various games... best to keep it out of in game chat, even private channels. As offering to swap someone some power crystals in SWTOR for some Minerals in WoW will get you permanently banned

coming from a multi game guild, we dont usually swap "services" openly. We have a guild forum for that. And yes, if i were to mention it publicly in game, i would be reported on...and if you have ever played an mmo...this form of currency and services exchange has never been prohibited.

Granted none of us would report the other for asking for help in in another game, hence why i wouldnt trust your...i mean "his" friend image

But yes this would be a bannable offence in any mmo.

Why is it interesting? They have/do the same thing in 99% other online games if you do not believe me go into WoW and advertise you wanna trade your WoW gold for swtor credits and see if your not banned if you get reported.

Not just EA/bioware, alllll TOS's state that you CANNOT do anything that involves something from an outside source, be it cash, game credits, items, resources from other games, whatever you want to call it.

You seem to not realize that someone REPORTED him for this. Bioware isn't hunting through 1 million players messages to find this. someone ratted on him. Shitty Guild is Shitty. Or should i say shitty member is shitty. The guild did the right thing and said what needed to be said.

Looks like the perma ban was a mistake, he updated it stating they changed it to a 1-week suspension and is now playing the game again. Maybe Bioware is losing more customers than we thought.

Ok couple of points I'd like to make.

First off this guy isnt me... most of the people posting in this thread probably viewed the one directly before this about the guy who quite and made a 30 min video about it...

Guess what the very first video in the related videos is?

Secondly, i understand that this is "technically" against the rules. However, do you really think this is what that rule was desinged for... to bust someone balls for swapping crap with their guildies across games.... really?

What really shocks me is that all of you think that he actually deserved a PERMA BAN. Like really...?

I guess this is probably the same crowd that saw the logic in the guy that got perma banned for the "I am 12 years old and what is this" post as well.

    .......

Actually why am I even bothering to try to make a point here...  This comes to mind http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W2Rdf0n_Lsg

Im trying to argue the morality of the issue and everyone wants to grab there technicality package and flip me the TOS bird.

Should have just left the video so that way folks would know about it and bounced out.

    My appologies

    "I quit, but I resubbed...I'm so disappoint.

All I did was make a 30 min vid of how I quit this game, but it wasn't enough, so I had to spam about it it to the players ingame before my time ran out :("

Admit it, you tried to throw dirt on something hoping noone else would see past it. THIS IS A BANNABLE OFFENCE IN ANY MMORPG. It is clear cut, and you wont get any apathy for it.

Secondly, rules are rules...and if his guild has someone who didnt agree with what was going on, thats a guild matter. BUT HE HAD EVERY RIGHT TO REPORT IT. It might suck a little, but hey, so is circumventing the rules. It would be like me riding in a car, and my friend blows through a stop sign. It may be a douche move on my part for reporting it, but it wouldnt be wrong to do.

YEs, it was intended to stop people from using influences outside the game(Re: Things they can't control). There's no grey area here, it's either black or white. You don't break the rules or you do.

Yes, gold traders and any of their ilk should be banned. permanently. else they stand the chance of doing it again and disrupting the economy the rest of us have to play fair and deal with.

Still, he DIDN'T get a perma-ban, so it isn't as extreme as you make it out to be.

So, the player was suspended for a week for suspicion of gold farming?  That is a far cry from being "perma banned for asking for help."  Way to stay objective, OP.

Ahh the old MMO car analogy.... Ahh the old "i see what you did there so that makes me smarter than you" move

And you only prove my point... once again I am arguing the morality of permanently banning a player or even banning a player at all for this and you are still smacking me over the head with the TOS wiffle ball bat.

I have made this joke in WoW actually... and didn't get banned for it... and in General chat to boot. Back when people where leaving to play aion I used to say... "I got a toon in aion... give your stuff and you can have all of it". No one ever took me up on the offer... but i certainly didnt get banned for it... cause that would have been stupid.

Even if someone did report it... what exactly was the person thinking who read it... "Holy shit this could break the game PERMA BAN" Cmon really?

i shall counter with two points

    1) i did not use the mmo car analogy...i used a driver analogy

    2) he wasnt perma banned

    3) i have no argument. I am not presenting a troll post to argue. Thats the responsibility of the original poster.

Ok that was 3 points but who is counting.
