Imagine what the genre would look like today if SWG pre-cu launched relatively bug free and reached WoW sub numbers....
What instead of arrogant WoW fans running around claiming they are 100% right there would be Star Wars fans proclaiming they are 100% right all the time? Substitute one form of evil for another. Both games are run by coorperations who can give two shits about their playerbases and use them as cash cows.
We would be no better off now in my view. Now imagine if ArenaNET had put any effort into Guild Wars over the cash shop and made a game that was designed to compete in the mmorpg genre in a B2P model 5 years ago.
My dream mmo is Rift if Trion stops worrying about pissing off the WoW playerbase and starts throwing more sandbox elements into the game with ideas taken from Archage which is shaping up to be a game changer.

Well, human nature is one thing. I was talking about the games themselves.
I sit on a man's back, choking him and making him carry me, and yet assure myself and others that I am very sorry for him and wish to ease his lot by all possible means - except by getting off his back.

the combat feel of MO.
the open world maps size, and naval combat of DF.
the terraforming and structure building of Wurm,
the economy, crafting and world "high sec/low sec" division of EvE.
the technical preformance of WoW.
the story and questing (totally optional) of Skyrim.
