    IMO, it's complete crap.

sounds just like how I felt when playing SWTOR but yes rift is themepark clone through and through

For a guy who is so good being "able to tell certain aspects of a game" you are not very good at articulating your argument or for that matter even making an argument.

But since you are unwilling or unable to make an argument let me try to make the  argument for you.  Rift is made in the traditional style of EQ1/ EQ2/ WoW and is basically the sequal to EQ2 with Hartsman running the show.  While Rifts offers activities for many different playstyles at endgame it is designed mainly as a raiding gear based game.  Many people will say they do not like theis game play as it requires them to grind gear.  But I do not understand what else they expect?  Gear to be given to people simply because they show up?  A  FPS style game where there is no gear differences?  Both are pretty unrealistic if a game wants people to keep players playing.

The second argument against Rift is its narrow design.  The 1-50 design is very narrow and limited.  WIth 2 leveling paths, fast leveling and somewhat limited content.  Hartsman addressed this many times pre-release when he said a game develeper has 2 choices to go "big" or go "small."  One can go big like in Vanguard and have lots of horizintal content 1-50 but content will be not be polished and the quality will be poor because there simply is not the time or the money for any game to go big and offer polish and quality.  Unless you have a budget the size of ToR and we can see how that turned out.  Trion decided to focus their game on endgame not the journey. They spent their resources on developing a polished, tested and finished endgame at release.  Which they did quite well releasing 10 level 50 dungeons one raid along with 2 other raids to be released a month after release.   The endgame was tested for 6 months prior to release.

The problem with wanting more is a designer is limited in time and money they can only offer so much at release.  To make a bigger game one would have sacrifice a lot.

The Third argument against Rift is its not a sandbox.  Its a valid argument.  Freedom is limited.  There is no construction. no building no open world elements.  While I do not think a AAA Sandbox can be made and be released with quality and polish I do believe there is a strong demand for one.  The problem is people do not have the patience or understanding to wait around for a compnay to finish one. Essentially a sandbox game will be released half finished and people will leave and it will never get finished.  Which is why we only see independent cheap sanbox games.  Who do you blame?  I blame the players.  I certainly do not blame Trion.  Why invest $50 million into a game they may like but that will likely lose them money.

There is not reason anyone has to like Rift.  Its a fine game for what it is a raiding game.  It is one of 3 supported raiding games on the market with EQ2 and WoW being the other two.  Tor will likely be a 4th but at this point it does not seem to be a serious raiding game.  Rift has a very loyal, stable  and happy player base.  If one does not like to raid then I can see Rift losing a lot of its appeal.   Thats fine.  But for what it is its a fine game and very well made.

Rift was fun for about 3 weeks.

After reading this thread I went back and tried it out for a few days.  I just couldn't get into it.  To me not much changed at all.  Sometimes I will give it a better chance. . but I didn't see any MASSIVE changes.   If you liked the game before the changes might be a bonus. . but that is all.  Just my opinion.

I feel the same about Rift.

I played from the headstart to a couple months after release, but lost interest due to being burnt out on themeparks. But I don't fault Rift for that, it's otherwise a very solidly built game for what it aims to be. It also had the most complete state and stability at release of any MMO I've ever played, which is quite impressive. Had I not played WoW for six years prior to trying Rift, I'd probably still be playing Rift.

Same here.  It is not a "bad" game at all.

very true core gameplay in these games almost never changes... they just end up adding small features and content here and there.. anyone expecting to come to a differn't game is going to be dissapointed.. if all you wanted was more content then you will be more or less happy.. but at least in rift you can actual be unique with your soul/skill combos if you really work on it.. unlike most of these themeparks it is nice having so many combinations to work with... yes you get cookie cutters but other builds can work just as well if played well... unlike some other games where if someone else is your same class 90% of everyone else playing that class uses the same exact skill/talent setup(yawn)....

I played Rift for about 2 weeks after it launched. It just wasnt fun for me, I guess because the game is too much build around grinding only and nothing else. The lore feels like a quick after thought, and the game world feels very small only build for leveling purpose, almost as if the maps are just "stages" to chug XP on your way to max level.

Technically the game works like a dream, for me at least. It's not really an issue, but only complaint tech wise for me is that the effects on many spells are very bland and the sounds are often just muffled poofs.

Rift is a very good attempt from Trion in my eyes and I can only hope that the next mmorpg they release will be bigger and does not feel so "arcade" on story and leveling department.

RIFT just feels like they chickened out... they have the very cool spawning tool - but instead of really taking advantage of it and making it the centerpiece of the game... they seem scared to take it to the next level.

They started to bring the world to life... then stopped.

Yeah, Rift was awesome to me too for a few weeks.  Then I couldn't bring myself to log in anymore.  This was at release, I am sure things have changed, but it's just not my type of game.

It's a solid game though, and if you looking for quest/raid/battlegrounds type of game I recommend it.

The terrible instances and disconnect on combat killed it for me, I wouldn't say it's a bad game - what it does it does to an acceptable level of quality, it's just not enough to be entertaining.

What TRION has done is amazing.....Just flat out awesome. THIS IS HOW YOU DO MMOS. TAKE A NOTE BIO. If you like mmos, check it out. You have nothing to lose.

And no, im not a paid advertiser haha. Look at my posting history.....

No thank you, i like what Bioware did. If they did MMO the way Rift did we would have small maps with mobs sprinkled like salt and two starter areas. I am not saying SWTOR is exapnsive in nature but Rift is even more limited and has worse end game gear grind since days of WOW.

    No thank you.

Obviously the 4 starting zones in SWTOr are completely groundbreaking.

And my house is bigger than the planet Korriban, go figure.

I'm not keen on themeparks but every mmo now is a themepark so i'm forced to play themeparks. Can you point me in the direction of a sandboxx mmo thesedays?
