the main difference would be a different type of combat. theres also a political system that's sounds awesome. where players get elected into power and can change the zone the rule in by adjusting tax rates, allowing open pvp, changing spawn timers, turing on or off teleporters, etc.
From the wow/aion/rift/swtor type game? Or is it just another bleh game?
In the beginning you won't notice much difference. aside from the combat. The quests are lackluster but I guess the combat makes up for it, the scenery/graphics are impeccable though.
Once you get to level 20 you start seeing elite mobs called BAMs, they are just big ass monsters with many mechanics and are quite tough to kill. This is something interesting I guess.
Then once you max I believe the political system comes into play, guild can control single or multiple provinces(there are 18 right now). They can aquire them through guild v guild pvp, battleground success or popularity votes. They can change NPCs, open specialty shops, change taxes and profit from taxes. Also the Vanarch(leader of the guild) has to do difficult quests/boss fight to earn points to make changes, he will obviously need other guild members help.
That's about all I know, besides political system and combat it's quite themepark, but they have some cool updates coming like Rifts and server vs server content, hopefully they implement that shortly after release.
Depends on what you are looking to be different. Personally I have gotten tired of the "typical" MMO and found TERA enjoyable because of the combat alone. It will make PvP and PvE a lot more fun, at least for me. Actual skill past skill rotation and gear. This, an open landscape and wandering BAMs have me really excited. There is no NDA anymore so you can find many, many videos to get a good look.
There will be an open beta from April 19th-22nd that is more of a free trial since they will not be deleting characters until a while after launch if inactive.
The questing and the overall world feels a lot like Aion (you have your main story quests + optional side quests and the progression/map is very similar)
The graphics are much better though and the chars look amazing
Combat feels like a PS3 action hack and slash, so if you're into that, you'll enjoy it.
Political system is somewhat similar to Aika, although it hasn't been fully implemented yet
PVP is ...lackluster at best, but it's there.
Fighting/battles are satisfactory, but the story/questing is same old, same old.
Overall, it's worth trying as it's definitely a lot more fun killing mobs in real time, but I personally wouldn't pay subscription for it. Hopefully it goes F2p like Aion

This ^^
It is like playing up graded version of Aion. I couldn't shake off the deja vu feeling while playing Tera. IMO Tera will end up F2P like AION.

The combat system is a little different and more action based than usual (which isn´t that much).
The game is very pretty, the quests are maybe slightly dumber than Wows, about Rift in quality.I just played it for a few hour, but so far it was actually pretty fiun which is more than I expected.
I havn´t had so fun in a Korean game since I beta tested Lineage ten years ago. I think the game at least is worth to bother to get a beta key and downloading it. If it will be fun still after the weekend or not is anybodys guess though.

I've got the straight edge.

Sigh....sounds like more of the same. Lame.

Just not worth my time anymore.

TERA should go with B2P & CS - it's really not worth the sub IMO.

lolis, furry lolis, all they lacking is them riding ponies, and got all 4chan usebase covered
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."
Ah... this is that game... the one that's probably made by the FBI to target pedophiles...
Got any other complaints or is the art direction the only thing haters can seem to grab hold of furiously?
Man.
not hating, just stating a fact.
The game seems alright so far, but they really went overboard with that
"I am not a robot. I am a unicorn."
Oh, my bad then
Some people do go overboard hammering the same QQ. It gets tiring. Worse if they haven't even left Isle of Dawn.
