Honestly I was a little bit dissapointed with the PvE side of things, however PvP seems to be a different story altogether. Granted the only thing i've experienced so far are duels, but nonetheless they were very very fun, far more so than when dueling somebody when playing an mmo with a traditional combat system.
Firstly, despite the naysayers, the game is much more skill based than your traditional mmo. When level 2, playing warrior for the first time, a level 4 playing the same class challenged me. And guess what, I won, and for once it wasn't down to a difference in level or stats, I can say it was down to my own playing, and my opponents mistakes. Granted this was still a low level fight, but I sure do hope the "skill" factor continues to play a part all the way up to and throughout endgame.
Similar experience when I was playing a mage, my opponents was a warrior of the same level, I had him down to the last part of his HP when he skillfully weaved in & out of my fireballs, hitting me with a flurry of blades and winning the duel for himself in the last moment.
What are your thoughts on Tera's PvP so far?
Comments
I dueled few players at low levels, was fun.
There was something I didnt like though.
Tera has collision detection ala AoC so you cant run through players which is awesome BUT... Warrior's and Slayer's dodge skill bypasses it and that makes them somewhat of a one trick pony I must say, at least at low levels with no CC yet I guess.
They come close in melee range and then start diving through your char behind you, hit you and dive back, it's kinda lame and I'm saying this even though I plan on playing a Slayer as main.
It's worse when you face a Warrior because dodge needs MP and Wars seems to start with full MP bar while Slayer needs to power it up by meleeing few hits first.
Maybe with CCs and other skills later on Slayers and Wars will change tactics but so far all players of these classes that I dueled played exactly the same way.
Maybe devs had a good reason to let dodge bypass collision detection but I don't see it atm.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.
if the doge skills didnt bypass the detection then it would be useless when in the face of big mobs or surounded. you would jsut bounce off the target.
The skill is just that, a dodge, increase your look speed and its n longer an issue.
PvP is always great on lowbies no matter the game. The inevatable imbalance, bugs etc don't play a part when it's just a lowbie undergeared toon with no skills or talents vs one of the same.
I'm not saying the PvP in the game is going to be bad, just saying please dont base it off of a couple of low characters having fisticuffs.
Only when surrounded you wont be able to dodge properly but how many times are you going to find yourself in that situation?
Besides, it's easy to keep it for PVE but leave the detection alone for PVP.
There really isn't a good reason for the dodge mechanics imo.
It actually feels like cheating as blocking opponents in PVP is a valid strategy as it was in AoC.

...And so the "buff!" and "nurf!" debate begins!
It is weird that certain melee can dodge through a player, but I think it will be awhile before we can assess the pvp for TERA, but at this point it is at least different enough, and a lot of people like duelling, which makes a change. I’ve played an archer against berserker and berserker against archer at the same levels, and there really was a difference in both fights, depending on the reflexes and skill of the players. We all spend a lot of time talking around fire about the strategies. I just wish our health came back after a duel.
Well, as a berserker you prolly wont be able to scratch a good War or Slayer only because of the dodge mechanics.
For example, all of your special hits needs a power up, the stun included.
Your Axe is getting red while you wait on the power up bar and I can see it so I dodge through you, you fire your skill and lose control of your char while the animation runs so you cant turn back to block, I hit you with my best attack and rince/repeat, you dead, me at 100%...
Player skills my ass...

First,
dont never look ar PVP as 1:1 , it can never be balanced
Second
Berzerker hits for 5xdamage Warrior does , and has 5X armor.
Third
Mobile classes > static classes , in PVP
Fourth
Wait until both get pwned by archers
They won`t both get pwned by archers. all classes can have equal outcomes against eachother at 58 because skill is a partial factor here. Also Zerkers have an AOE stun and warriors have a shadowstep followed by stuns.

this scenario is doomed since you can't move through characters.
Looking forward to uhh.....
playing: Civ 5, Tony Hawk Pro Skater HD
Except that Warrior and Slayer CAN, dodge bypasses colision detection.
That's the whole point of my posts in this thread...
So in the case of a Berserker vs. War or Slayer, Zerk being sluggish with few seconds long power ups for skills and longish animations where you lose character control... I can see it being facerolled by rest of the melee classes and against good players will prolly only be able to land AEs and the main defence skill which is block seems totally useless against them.
All because devs decided to let 2 classes ignore collision detection.
It might or might not be a problem at 58 but it sure looks like it is at low levels.

Benjola the poster in this thread is correct, Dodge has to cancel collision for pve and that will carry over to pvp. Berserker is the hardest class to pvp and I feel your pain, the class is the weakest in 1v1 but it totally rapes in group pvp.
Hang in there your skill speed will increase at higher levels and will get somewhat better but zerker will never be top tier at 1v1 pvp.
If you don't think dodge should cancel collision then all I can say is roll a warrior or slayer and go fight a bam or one of the bosses in the lvl20 instance, you will soon understand why the mechanic works like it does.
