TERA will compete with big MMO's, but the big MMO's will retain subscription because people will go back to them at some point to see updates. It's that simple. The reason why you can't "KILL WOW" is because you've been playing it for 6 years. It's like being lonely and trying to contact one of your ex-girlfriends for pity sex.
TERA is a new standard for combat in MMO's. This is for certain.
As for beating something that has drained and ruined the MMO market, no, TERA cannot remove WoW subscriptions that you're going to willingly renew because you're a slave to the money you've already wasted over the years.
EDIT:
And not to mention that Blizzard has been attempting to SECURE an annual subscription under the benefit of receiving Diablo 3 for "free".
These business models work very well when you've already made millions of dollars. And having a year to think about what your next move will be to make even More money is an overabundance of time...
A combination of games will 'kill' WoW, starting with Guild Wars 2. Surrounding the old dog, frantically sticking the knife in like Brutus and his pals.

I have a bad feeling about GW2.. tho we will ahve to wait and see..

Not sure why people say GW2 will kill anything. I haven t met one person saying they ll leave the game they re playing for GW2. They ll play both. GW2 is just that a great second game. If it takes all my time, and I log into the game I m playing only 4-5 times a month, thats still cheap entertainment.
from what information we have had your gonna be at a big disadvantage if you start PKing people all over the place..
Yea its similar to Lineage2. kill people and you become red = lame = reroll.
But apparently they will also add a system like they had in Star wars galaxies. You can turn on pvp (On Duty) and kill or be killed by other players who are ''on duty''.
Even though I love darkfall and the pvp ruleset they have, I can see myself enjoying this aswell. (It worked pretty decent in SWG atleast)
again I will say this, no game can kill what is already death, if wow and his fanboys still want to play undead let then alone, no one would want then to annoy us in our real games, imagine I playing GW2 and we get that ammount of wow noobs wanting raids saying they are top raiders and all that crap, like do a raid in wow was difficult, most of then would cry on a raid boss on L2, posssible most of then already rage quit from L2 because of it.
This is the first time I heard that this game is gona be a wow killer, seriously. This game serve a niche market with its non-tab targeting combat.
This right here. People are freaking out like it was made to mass appeal to everyone. This is not TOR where peopel waited for it for years and now it is here.
The people who wanted to paly this game have been playing it on bought account from Korea. It is made a for a very specific audience. Just turn the hype machine down to a 5 or 4 from the 11 it is at.
This game will never kill WoW because. Those that play WoW cant hack it in a Korean game period. Its way to hard for them. The PvP in this game with the outlaw system lets people freely gank annyone (low levels etc) a carebear WoW player cant take this and will hit Uninstall faster then the tears rolling down his cheeks.
The PvP guild system also means your guild might be in Constant war with others and lets face it a player who is Used to Sitting in Town Queing for the next Sport Event.. wont be happy when he is out and about and he suddenly gets jumped by superior numbers..
Or in Bas Ruttens words they are babies playing baby games...

Conversely, I don't know many people who play multiple mmos at once. But I do know a lot of people who resent playing subscriptions.
'Kill' is obviously a relative term, I just think GW2 will evolve the genre, and have enough superior content and gameplay mechanics to make WoW take a considerable hit.
Take my word most of you keyboard turning clickers do not even remotely stand a chance against some of the pvp'rs this game has already attracted. There ae legions/guilds here who will zerg you then laugh at you on the forums as you throw a pity party. They will camp you until you quit and not care. It was made for a very specific audience and not for the carebear crowd.
And people like this is why the game will fail. Yes, it will attract those people you claim its aimed at, but no one else will play it BECAUSE of those people. Might end up with maybe 100k subs max?

It will not fail. It will attract a different community. One that laughs at any other carebear/themepark game.

You have to ask yourself do you want to evolve? do you want to challenge yourself, do you want to take yourself out of your Comfert zone?
Bottom line if you cant hack it stay away.. You either bite down in your pillow when you get asraped in prison and think about the shank you are going to make of that screwdriver you found. And then Stab all those mofos to death when you get the chans. Or you surrender and start dressing like a girl and become their permenant BITCH. the choise is yours... Most theampark goers would probably OPT for option number 2....
Point.. This game is hardcore.. so step up like a man and challenge yourself to play it.. dont be a pussy and hide in the corner...whining about How those players made it so. You did nothing to change it but complain... Get in the game and smack the F.uck out of them yourself instead of hiding away in some theampark....

Tera aint hardcore at all LOL.. it is more skill based than other themepark gaems yes but its not waht i would call hardcore LOL
Still its a change for the better lets hope more AAA titles pick up on this style
Tera is NOT ''hardcore'' lol.. And Tera IS a themepark.
What have you been smoking? lol
Lets' just stop labeling any other mmos as WOW killers. Just let WOW run its amazingly long course and let it die with the respect it deserves. Meanwhile I'll be playing other stuff because it did die for me.
As far as TERA goes....nothing I've seen seems to impress me. That could change.
Its a Korean game that lets you fight in an OPEN world setting. Declare wars on other guilds (yes they can escape). You can become an outlaw last I looked.. and pew pew others
There will be lots of griefing...
Okey no death penelties to speak about and you dont drop gear but for the General theampark goears these days, who wernt with us in the Old or nothing days. This is as hardcore as it gets these days.. The level grind alone will send them crying home to mommy.. mark my words. Even if its a breez compare to the old days of Linage2 etc
Haha gamer nerds talking tough prison talk lol this thread is getting better and better by the minute
Zlayer, you didn't play Tera this weekend did you...
It's as hardcore as Hello Kitty Online.
Even if it's easy to level I can bet money on there being little wankers who wont be able to hack it. And getting Stomped on by griefers on the PvP servers will make many a Brave theampark Hero cry in outrage on the offical/mmorgp forums. Saying this and that about how awfull it all is... just wait and see...
I highly doubt that it will be a WoW killer. I even doubt that it will that popular in the west.
This. I think the game is going to be a dwindling success and settle somewhere between a handful of servers that are moderately populated, probably around L2's current numbers. That's actually still profitable and doing well, but all the people screaming "PvP!" are jumping on a bandwagon they don't really want to be on. They're going to get zerged, the political system is going to crush their spirits, and then they're all going to come running to the forum qq'ing about how the game isn't fair. Same exact crap that happened with Aion, and TERA is far more intense pvp-wise.
Now, when ArchAge comes out, that's a bit different. They're somewhat different styles of combat, but I'm honestly not sure TERA will survive ArchAge. At least until then, I think it will do alright.

Don't need a wow killer anymore wow is on it's last leg now anyway.

I wasn't aware this game was ever awarded any wow killer badges by anyone (other then perhaps a few extremely rabid fanboys)

This is what many thought and wished (me included) after AoC launch, it didn't work out.
Tera is the first bigger MMO after AoC ( 4 years time) with no tab targeting with a shitload of WoW clones in between.
Shame.
I care about your gaming 'problems' and teenage anxieties, just not today.

Have fun at endgame hardmode dungeons or PvP, in Korea the good PvP'ers will turn you into a mass of death in seconds.

1. I have not seen a single person all this a 'wow killer'. Your post is the first linking them even as far as I have seen.
2. I don't personally give a crap if people call games 'wow killers' or not. It has no effect on me whatsoever.
3. Comparisons with SWTOR as a contemporary product in the same space are valid and justified.
