I can have the best of both worlds BECAUSE GW2 is buy to play. I'll sub to TERA and purchase GW2.

But TERA manages to bring very traditional EQ2 MMO gameplay and merge it with action combat.

I can see it strongly appealing to people that will find GW2 too innovative and different - and there will be many like that

So by my prediction. TERA will be one of rare MMOs around not to be completely stomped and eliminated by GW2

You know DCUO does that as well but look where that landed.

    This is not a game.

And people stop ditching twitch combat.  There is a lot more 2 it then click click click.  The same timing,  combos,  and power builds up excist in twitch as they do in traditional MMOs.  The only difference is you actually have to aim to accomplish your goal.

This mindset bothers me, i dont see how people can have it both ways.  If a korean games does well in korea everyone says that it might not do well in the west because of Grind, art style or whatever.. Then a korean game doesnt do well in korea and people say "It didnt even do well in korea"

Oh you mean DCUO's "soft target" system? And then tab. Tab. Tab. Tab? Infuriating at worst. Did they change that?

Yes, I agree with you here.  I will plan to do the same.  I initially wasn't too interested in TERA and didn't think anything of it.  However, I was quite jaded after the nightmare rip-off SWTOR that I left and decided to install the beta client for TERA. I pre-ordered for 5 bucks from Gamestop and got a code (cheap way!).

Anyways, I played it on the 10th and I'm guessing that when I finally looked around nearly 3 days went by, my PC room was a mess with shit all over it, empty water bottles all over, etc.  It  was almost like I rewinded back to my college days of playing DAOC PVP hardcore.  I was absolutely GLUED to the screen it was that fun.  The gameplay, art, classes, and pvp is just phenomenal.  I am so looking forward to it.

I will also love playing GW2 as a F2P mmo, but I won't even think twice about $15 a month for TERA.  It's definitely worth it from what I've seen thus far.  Best thing is it's not an Asian GRINDER like I expected it to be!

yeah dcuo required you to have a single target and you did splash damage tera allows you to do full damage to anything your sword or spells hit . tottally diffrent imo

Nah they haven't change it yet. The targetting system is different but the combat itself is quite similar.

free vs pay to play hmm very hard to decide huh?  consider the pay to play not even doing too good in their own country.  ppl always get too excited for playing level 1-10, its t he end game thats going to make ppl stick around.

It's not particularly splash damage because that would suggest that the main target still takes full damage instead it's just their way of making it so that one guy will not wipe out a big group of people just as fast as that person could wipe out one person. The calculations may be different but the actions involved like I said earlier; active dodging, blocking and positional awareness makes both games quite similar in that respect.

    This is not a game.

Nope it's not doing bad but it isn't reaching killer numbers either.

    This is not a game.

Not a lot of people can really dedicate their time to more than one MMO. They are designed to be time consuming. So yes, while GW2 will not have a monthly fee, it is still very much an MMO and will require a certain time dedication. Looking at the whole thing realistically, those of us with jobs, families and/or other obligations will not be able play GW2 and another game and remain competitive with the players who will concentrate one only one game. So eventually most people are going to have to choose.

Hmmm...by year 2013, a lot of interesting things shold have occured.

Any way Tera will give Aion a run for it's money.

I might get banned for this. - Rizel Star.

I'm not afraid to tell trolls what they [need] to hear, even if that means for me to have an forced absence afterwards.

P2P LOGIC = If it's P2P it means longevity, overall better game, and THE BEST SUPPORT EVER!!!!!(Which has been rinsed and repeated about a thousand times)

Common Sense Logic = P2P logic is no better than F2P Logic.

GW2 is WAY better than Tera.

  • omidusomidus Member UncommonPosts: 99

I played the CBT and the KR version and tbh the game is very unfinished; while what is there is wonderful and fun. However, the game is unfinished; the next KR content update is a change to the warrior class and it's mechanic, I forgot what else is there. They're also introducing a reputation system into the game, alot more tweaks to the component.

In terms of being polished, TERA is nowhere near the level of SWTOR right out of the box.

I enjoy the game, but I won't be touching it at launch. TERA in general feels like a rush job.

  • XasapisXasapis Member RarePosts: 6,337

Really now, SW:TOR and polish don't belong to the same sentence. That game has so many bugs and broken things, you could easily take it for a Bethesda game. The only saving grace is that nothing was gamebreaking, well, except for the end of one the classes (which was fixed post launch).

Comparing the engine of those two games is even a bigger joke. Tera has miles better better graphics compared to the muddy SW:TOR graphics, an open world instead of zones and all these with a much better performance.

Really, you can argue that the story of Tera is boring and that the game is a generic quest based MMO, but the polish and responsiveness of the game engine is miles ahead of SW:TOR.

  • ShadowdawnzShadowdawnz Member UncommonPosts: 201

Ya love Tera but it lacks story. For me. It seems GW2 has better storytelling then Tera. If i'm not mistaken, those matter to us North Americans and maybe Europeans also. Along with game play and some of the other finer details. GW2 is doing alot of new things different. Tera, very few things are new.. I dont see Tera being much competition for GW2. Only for the combat machanics and graphics/artstyle maybe.

    Just my 2 cents..

Yeah with the whole neither is fully out yet...definately easy to make this decision.

I can't really take your post seriously when you end it with something like this...besides voice acting, especially compared to SW:TOR not much in TERA seems like a rush job. SW:TORs engine was poorly optimized, bugs like no tommorow, it lacked good music/ambient sound almost entirely and the graphics were meh. It also doesn't have very much content, probably less than TERA. Yet it has three times the budget.

I see Tera being another Rift and doing as well as Rift, I dont see it competing with Guild Wars 2 however.

  • SnoepieSnoepie Member UncommonPosts: 485

i don't think you can compare GW2 with tera tho..

    Tera is pve based..

    GW2 is heavily pvp based

Its the same comparison between wow and doac..

The core elements of GW2 is pvp which tera shows a story line pve quest( with some minor pvp elements)

I do think that gw2 will be more succesfull tho.. Altho i really like the pve in tera.. the combat is not boring @ all.

  • HeretiqueHeretique Member RarePosts: 1,536

After playing both games, I like TERA's combat much better.

Both games are good and will do well, GW2 is obviously going to do well due to hype and b2p.
