Wow I am amazed at the people who play this game not realizing its NOT EVERY MMO style (mainly directed at the video)
This combat you have to move out of the targets attack there isn't a ability queue because abilities are attacks meant to be used as you need them not queue everything stand and take dmg and lastly about not being able to interrupt abilities it due to using a big ability is suppose to have consequences if you fail to executed it at the right time. Man wish people would realize the game isn't meant to be played stand and take dmg while queuing abilities. Its very move move move do dmg move move move do dmg and if play the way the game is meant to be played a ACTION combat system then you wouldn't find the game so difficult.
And don't believe me here is me solo'n the 1st 5man boss
The combat is interesting at best, but it's no revolution. There have been action RPGs and action MMOs out for years. They appeal to a specific type of player but not the majority.
Tera has been super hyped, like most new games these past few years, it has nothing to do with how innovative it actually is, but just with how much media attention it got. I don't need to get into details as there have been reviews already explaining why the combat system isn't that good for pvp.
If I want to show my mad aiming skillz I'll just play my FPS games, I pvp in mmo's for other reasons.
You should try playing the game before talking about it. The thing is that its about a lot more then aiming. I think its more about movement / timeing and skill selection. Just because you are a FPS god means nonthing in TERA.
Also the combat in TERA is what combat should be. Sure there are ways to improve it but there is not one mmo on the market that has better combat. Instanced / Lobby based games like Vindictus and Dragon Nest are not what I call mmos.
Funny how so many people come into new MMORPGs and always expect Raid content at level cap. Games like TERA and Guild Wars 2 will have a hard time converting such people, to their own forms of Endgame.
Tera does have endgame raid content and KTera is getting a huge update in about a month that adds 1 or 2 20 man dungeons. They're also getting another huge patch shortly after the other containing even more content. Basically its an expansion but unlike WoW you dont have to dish out another $60. I think Tera will have to wait before putting it out though as the warrior class is being completely changed in to more of a WoW-Rogue type class (combo points and stuff). You can find a summary of what the first part of the expansion will include in the link below.
Pokket is really cute in the "look at me I'm an online gamer girl" kind of way. However, she's not really that interesting to listen to when it comes to something like this. I mean, I get it.... Women palying vidja games is cool and everything but if we're going to get a beta impressions video rolling let's get somebody else.
I could have sworn I just saw a SWTOR player critique a game for lack of variety in quest mechanic. Lmfao
Swear all you want but despite how unoriginal Star Wars: The Old Republic might be it does have greater quest variety than TERA. ;-)
Uh, no. First, I said nothing about its originality.
At best TOR can claim a draw in the area of quest mechanic variety. They both have extremely limited quest types, although I saw TERA use more escorts (which a lot of people hate) mixed in with the others, so I'd give it an edge if I were scoring them.
My point isn't to bash TOR, but to point out that as a TOR player, Pokket should be used to that quest mechanic variety.
Most importantly though, lets use the Enter key more between sentences. Minimum of 10 times... wtf?
As for the game. It looks more like a MMOAG, mmo action game. I forsee people running around in circles and jumping all over the place in battle, like a bunch of idiots. Huge immersion breaker. Very unrealistic. Graphics engine looks like it is good but the art is terrible. Certainly geared towards undersexed teens. With that in mind I can only imagine how putrid the community is going to end up being.
I hope it can become home for all you action-a-holics out there. Maybe now you can stop trying to persuade developers into converting every single upcoming MMORPG into a console style hack and slasher. There are an awful lot of us who adore slower paced, tab targeting, character driven combat.

Lol the point is that there are already too many of them, some more games with exciting combat wouldn't hurt.
As for Pokket, certainly would not enjoy grouping with her, she does not seem to be a very good player, although the game is new to her.
Like the wise men say ..."look as cute and adorable as you can, it wont make you a good player"
i think Pokket has been a bit over hyped by horny fat nerds who have nothing better to do than watch chicks stream MMo's
Aw come on guys, no need to attack her personally. She is here doing her job, and she just so happens to be good looking, no harm in that.
As it comes, every game has it's various players. Players always vary in skill, race, sex, sexual orientation, what they define as fun, what they are in the mmo for, and so on.
So when you encounter people that perhaps are new or lack skill, regardless of anything, how about you help em out and help make the game a more positive place to be instead of being detrimental to the game's community. (sorry about the mini-rant but people who put others down based on their skill severly annoy me.)
So cut her some slack, she is doing her job and giving the site the videos.
----
On the other hand, Tera looks interesting, but I am not sure if it will be the game for me. If you can level so quickly and not have much to do at the end, I duno..but we will see!
I am entitled to my opinions, misspellings, and grammatical errors.
I love all the people who claim to have high lvl chars on Ktera that failed to point out to everyone that you CAN break out of those long moves. For warriors, Pokket, it is your evasive roll. For Lancers you can simply shield block to break a long skill. I am not sure about other non-tank classes. I found the combat to be very fun and had a blast with my friends. By Sunday evening I had amassed around 500K and checked out the crafting, which was horrible. I spent 400k just getting armor and weapon crafting to 100, so I could craft lvl 20 gear and found that it took an immense amount of materials and money and gave items that dropped off basic overland mobs.
This game is still far too Korean and personally I only consider it an English port. I am sure there are more changes in the pipeline, but it really is not much different than any other crappy Korean MMO out there, yet they are trying to claim they are westernizing it.
Holy Crap, Batman! That vid looked flippin' horrible! Unless of course you enjoy bright shiny colors and lil'fluffy characters, with bright huge eyes and seizure inducing effects and graphics... ...But hey, to each their own.
Oh and can the reviewer perhaps refrain from using the adverbs "basically" and "definitely" in almost every other sentence?
Otherwise the "review" is about what every other reviewer/blogger does these days...
I also felt a little upset when she said "despite all the monsters having complicated AI's it felt like the same thing, dodge this, dodge that"...
Yes because instead, standing still looking at your global cooldown timers is better and not reptitive...
Atleast you have to watch for monsters tells, and then react and then strike when the opportunity knocks or you'll end up dead more often than not.
Its always funny to hear that. I mean look at SWTOR. Its generic as possible with the same exactly mmo formula cut and dry in a way that makes it seem more generic then any other game ever launched.
Yes because if you stand there and just stare at GCDs you'll survive the Soa fight. You'll survive all the fights really. Not moving. Just standing there and pressing buttons. I wish you luck with that tactic ~.^
To be honest, movement and raid awareness are nothing new to dungeons and raids. I've been raiding long enough to tell that this is nothing short of same stuff, different combat style... and that is where the key difference comes in... different combat style. It'll be a combat system that some like, while others don't.
I won't deny that I am not the best at the game. I've only played in one beta and briefly played at conventions. I also played Vindictus an Dragon Nest. But this isn't a guide to my expertise in a game. It's my first impressions as a noob going into unfamiliar territory.
While I have been corrected on some fronts, I feel as though I achieved my goal in giving a fair and unbiased review of a soon-to-launch MMO.
I do not like the combat in TERA, the inability to cancel a move is ridiculous.
uh, what games outside of mmos do you play where you can just cancel in the middle of an animation, and what sense could that POSSIBLY make? In any action game you have to do moves with long animation times when you know you won't get attacked/interrupted. Any mmo with animation cancelling is not doing it right.
stop thinking in terms of a stacic deck. THIS AINT MTG!! we all know each other skills, the ability to sacrafice resource to fake your opponent out and making the use an interupt, whilst saving you a cooldown adds another layer on top of combat. instead of you press X I press Y, I interupt you. Its did I actually hit with that rupt or did he esc trick me? wtb a game made by GW propecies vets only.
Did anyone else find it disturbing that during the female character creation, the character's um... bosoms, kept heaving and she seemed to panting like crazy?
No.
Also, did she say there was no pvp in the game besides deuling? I hope she just meant in that beta, cause that's juts plain incorrect. No factions, and full pvp servers are the only reason I'm going to play... oh, and I do like the combat, lol, so I spose that too.
Of course I know there is no PvP simply because it is beta. That's why I said (towards the end?) That I await trying out the PvP in future betas. If I didn't state that, I meant to.
hey pokket. i thought i had read something about there being a system in tera that players could be put in jail or something? or have bounties put on their heads by other players?
was there anything like that in your beta expereince?

Comments
This is the exact reason why Pokket is a bad analysist IMO.
1. SHE MAKES NO COMMENTS ON THE UI
wth, thats a pretty basic reviewer commentary.
2. DIDNT COMMENT ON THE CLASS ABILITIES/DIFFERENCES
duh? give us a break
3. SHE DOESNT COMMENT ON THE MODS, IF MACROS ARE INGAME
I could go on and on but dont want to give her a lesson in reviewing a game. This is standard basic 101 stuff....
Cmon MMORPG, please get reviewers who KNOW HOW to review games, and not because theyre a rarity in games.'
1/10
Horrible review IMO.
[Mod Edit]
Whatever happened to the IN BIOWARE WE TRUST signatures?

Tera is a very good game. The only think i dont like is the PVP...Will be very hard for class like rangers/mage ...

Make your own videos and/or don't watch.

Yeah, no reason for personal attacks...

Graphics are amazing engine is amazing and it plays amazing, however there are a lot of question marks still as we have only seen 1-22
Can't wait to see the side to side screens with Tera VS Swtor and see the Swtor fanbois in full out denial mode.
Very, very very, good point.
Get someone else for that kind of stuff.
