EnMasse blocks entire regions because we are all cybercriminals ?

PyromanixPyromanix Member UncommonPosts: 5

Hi,

I just pre-ordered this game, and was hoping to get into next closed beta event, but then was left scratching my head as of why their website just don't want to accept my preorder code (I can't do / change anything with my EnMasse account too).

Only to be told by their support, the reason is because my regions is IP blocked.

All of Asia, Africa and Middle East.

Oh well...this is NA release after all, maybe they want to give best experiences at launch, or they not ready to handle traffic from these regions yet. Fine. Until I read the links given in my ticket.

http://tera-support.enmasse.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/153

Apparently, if we are in these regions, automatically we are the hackers, the gold farmers, the account thieves. Nice.

Obviously they don't want my money. Scratch off one future customer then.

To all others who are following this game, and from the regions above. Don't even bother.

And.....I hope the game got hacked and botted to death after launch XD

P/S : Yes, I am bitter :D

More than one company seems to have the attitude that only people in the US counts, and possibly if they feel nice, Canadians.

I agree, IP blocking is just wrong, as long as you pay and follow the NDA you should be allowed to play just like everyone else.

Some reasons they do IP blocking is that they may have plans to release the game on those regions. Like me, I wanted to play a game Pristontales 2 in EU but I can't 'cause US is IP blocked on that game but I later found out that some company is releasing the game here. So, its basically hit or miss on IP Blocking sometimes.

Whether people feel that it's wrong or not, companies and some coutries do have a right to refuse service.  I don't agree with it because I think the iNet should be free to access but there you have it.

I totally agree with Loke, IP blocking is bad. I've read from the official forums some players say it's also due to distribution rights.

hopefully eme will.change their mind soon and at least allocate a server for English speaking players here in Asia. Not all of us speaks Koreans, Japan or Chinese.

after following thus game for close to 2 years, it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth, however I do hope their able to do well and have a healthy sub base. At least this game try to do something different.

They could have just said they block the regions because of legal reasons, or licensing.

Instead, they use hacking and gold farming as excuses.

I am just hoping GW2 or TSW won't do the same mistake.....

Yes, companies have their right to do whatever they want to do with their products. But they are also eliminating player base here. This is the first time I can't play a mmo I want XD. Also if the gold farmers deem that Tera is a good market to go in, nothing can stop them.

and this begs the question, wats the purpose of.the chronoscoll now?

liscensing and publication agreements can be a total pain in the arse. So many korean games I wanna play right now and can't. I use to buy accounts from korean residents, but they got too damn greedy the last year or two.

    {mod edit}

In order to maintain a stable community in the video game they have decided to do this, and I support it.  The last thing I want is another Aion or Lineage 2.

Also if you really want to play you could always proxy.

Wow, their statement is just horrible... Sounds a bit racist, don't you think? Can't believe they just blocked all Russia, Asia and Middle East onlhy becaus we are hackers by definition (Israeli citizen here).

I had the same problem with SWTOR, since Bioware decided to block my country from the Origin store and blocked any other way of preordering the game while at it. I was forced to preorder the game digitally through my friend from Netherlands. Little did I know, it was 80$ well thrown away, because I didn't like the game :)

Moral of the story, OP: Don't bother with their game, if that's the way they roll, the chances are, you aren't going to like it anyway (at least not in the long way).

This is how korean game company operates. Vindictus, mabinogi, ragnarok and all nexon games to name some. Like others have said its for distribution rights.

What they failed to realise is that Asia is just too big. The best thing we could have is a Chinese version, but even then not all of us asians are chinese. I'm from SEA, and i dont know jack about chinese language.

Edit: Even after all these years I failed to see an "Asian" version of mabinogi or vindictus. Go figure.

Very often these companies have a publishing deal with a company in those regions so they IP block users from those countries so that their publishing partners get the users.

Is it messed up? Absolutely but if say TERA devs are working on a deal with a Russian publisher, allowing Russian players to log into the US servers will counter productive to their deal with the Russian publisher.

Other than that, you can probably get around the IP block with a proxy server.

First, by using.proxy we have to pay more, 2nd , proxy may not last, as eme have said of they found that gold farmers using proxy, they will ban proxy too. Imagine you're leveling half way and this happens.

if eme wants, they can just block china IP, since they play on Chinese servers anyway, and do what other companies do, be vigilance and ban gold sellers!

for aion is the failure of the dev to properly patrol their game, which ncsoft kinda have this issue.

You don't get it, w/ a game that involves any sort of twitch element ping is a factor.  I have ZERO interest playing w/ people from areas that have over 150 ping and those who understand latency generally agree.  I don't play games that are hosted in south korea for example because I don't want to be the guy screwing up others experience because I just have to play in a region that I'm not part of.  Sorry but the reality is I prefer when companies restrict the player base(especially in fps's and hybrids) to America, Canada and Great Britain, outside of those countries you end up with crappy latency language barries and in the case of some countries far to much hacking and thats just the way it is.

Let me brings back the chronoscroll again, if eme implement it to battle gold sellers, by giving players a legit way to buy gold, now with this region block, it just shows me that they wana sell the golds themselves.

They have Korean servers Why play with less Ping.. more lag when you can play closer to home and not experince this?

I think IP blocking is a good thing.. I really dont want to play with people not from my region...  and as they say If you block 100 legit players and 10 farmers its worth the sacrifice.. you got your own servers go play there...

I would like if they block east europeans also.. Leage of legends became much better when we got ridd of them and split europe up into West and East. The quality was just much better, dident like to play with people who couldent comunicate in English..

I personaly dont like the Russians/east euros In EvE either... would be nice to get ridd of them there also...

If you don't know yet, let me tell you. K-Tera is only meant for Korean, and you need Korean ID card to register. And Korea is not the only country in Asia.

Plus not all Asians can speak and read  Korean / Japanese.

And from what I know, in MMO, whatever my ping is, it doesn't affect yours right ? Don't like people who lag, don't play with them

To block them from game just because of your preferences is just..I am out of words
