I love how people complain about quests " collect 10 *** " " Kill 15 *** " yet i dont see them come up with any new and exciting quests themselfs.. Explain to me what a better quest would be? go kill 1 *** ? or go look at this tree? tell me what you would do? no matter what you say a quest will always have kill this or get that or protect this or destroy that... That is what these games are about killing and looting .... if you can come up with something better please let me know.
Well, if you ask: Shire quests (LotrO), minigame quests (WoW), Investigation Missions (TSW), sabotage missions (TSW), Dynamic Events (GW2), to name some examples out of the top of my head. Even TOR and AoC VO/cinematic quests with dialogue options and LotrO book quests can offer a welcome diversion of the very traditional bare bones 'kill ten X' or 'move your ass to there and/or get me this trivial stuff' kinda quests.
It's all in how you're required to do stuff, a different delivery or presentation of your missions can make it feel fresh or different - or less same old - same for different combat while doing it. Whatever floats your boat I guess.
Using ridicuously oversized weapons. Not being able to move on instant cast abilities. Feeling like a pedo when you see the ridiculous little-girl races running around. Furry panda-looking races. Insanely boring and unimaginative quest. World bosses that one player can solo.
Ahhh yes, it brings a smile to my face too. Or more like a chuckle.

Tera players bitching about how bad SWTOR is really golden. lol
lol, see what they say a month after release will be priceless when the game is tera-bad and they really feel it out.
if the Pve Is terra bad its okey by mee I spend most of my time just hacking Mobbs.. goes faster to level that way.. Quest are really just in the way of my playstyle.
You do Know why we play Tera? its because of the promise of NO FRACTION... PvP.. and it has this far proven they will stick to it.
And Most theampark players Post 2004 that have grown up in these world were they were protected by the developers wont like Tera. Those that have some balls and want to fight other players and challenge themselfs will like it though..
Its just that there is something special about being better and Knowing that you can take it. I mean people Hate on EvE also.. you know why.. They just cant hack it...
Ps.. if you look at Teras forums there is a post about a little lost kidd who thought he was a PvPer becaue he used to pvp In WoW. But when he was going to get his mount a hole guild of people Face stompt him.. He cried like the little tab target Bitch that he is... Facts are though that soon after those same pvpers got chased across the world and wiped by better Pvpers... But the litte kiddy had allready left the server in Tears crying for E-sport games and fair gameplay....
FACT: If you have never played a real pvp game (EvE, Lineage2 for example) You are just kidding yourself if you say you like PvP.. The theampark Light PvP.. fraction game you have played have nothing to do with what REAL Men consider PvP...
HAHA, whaaat?
As for EvE, I don't play it because it bores me to tears.
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!

Balls?! LMAO! TERA is not a true PvP game. For someone who has played UO and EVE, PvP in TERA is carebear. LOL @ these smug "PvPers."
TERA is not a real PvP game unless it has full loot.
Since when does full loot entitle it to real PvP? I've played Darkfall, UO, and Eve for 10+ years collectively. I still consider TERA to be a better PvP game than anything else that has come out recently. Eve PvP would rank below TERA as well, as it really wasn't that fun.
All full loot means in a game is that you're a masochist, it has nothing to do with the PvP mechanics or how great of a PvP game it is. Some of us(me included) prefer full loot, but it doesn't make the PvP any better.
Full Loot does make absolutly any PVP Better.
Back on topic, while i am also a veteran of EVE, DF and other sandbox games, TERA's combat is quite interesting for a theme park mmo, the problem is that i dont see sieges, or territoty PVP at high end like it was in Lineage 2. So will see, still a good direction compared to the other moronic tab target combat games, but the rest beside the graphics, still needs work.
full loot doesnt mean good ppv. Best pvp hands down have daoc and Lineage 2 and neither have or lets say l2 had loot. TERA is in a good direction definaetly something different then this wow,swtor,rift,gw2 and other bs pvp.
CBT has no NDA.. so I can speak freely about things
First off we in Europe got to test out the new PvP system this last weekend. The Tears are Epic on the forums from all the Themepark people who think PvP is about E-sport, fair gamplay and a load of other crap. I hope the whiners dont win out on this because the new Outlaw system (you can go outlaw at lvl 11) no debuffs etc. WAS FUN!!!
I dont understand those that whine though , they dont get delveled they dont lose itmes when they die. But I think it just goes to show what the last 8 years have done to the genre.. People cant even take getting zerged anymore. Its just sad.
Here is to hoping the PvP system stay as it was this weekend. You amerikans get to test it out this comming weekend I think. Hope you dont have as much whiners as we had on the EU side...
FFXI was the last asian MMO i liked and enjoyed for a very long time.
Yeah combat is cool but need more in MMO than comabt to keep playing for a long time.
I whole heartedly agree with these 2 statements.
I am just hoping this one will be good enough for me to stay busy for awhile and be happy.
I can't stand any of the MMORPGs out right now...
Agreed.
TERA excites me but what I really long for is XI. I wish the game was more like XI.
Many of us can say this sentence about a particular game but for me: "I wish WoW hadn't come along and people had given more appreciation to [Final Fantasy XI]."
Utsusemi tanking. XP Parties. No game has ever made zones feel dangerous like XI did. I remember, when my friend got me to play, and I was hugging a wall in dunes and didn't understand why until one of the mobs did get ahold of us and we barely survived.
These weren't world bosses, zone bosses, or even elites. These were just mobs. You did get to a point in XI where you felt powerful (hello Ninja, PLD/nin, anything/dnc, I never was an RDM type) but you earned it.
Damn I miss that game.
I miss compliments in Auto-Translate. I have a screenshot somewhere that says 3 Heraldic Imp {Incredibly Tough} 70PLD {Impossible to Gauge.} from a jp party. It's strange how much that meant.
I miss how we made auto-translate work and always wondered if JP had any idea what the heck {May} {bee} meant when people insisted on using it.

I've dealt with both, TERA is much better in many aspects that are not debatable.
Graphics, textures and engine hands down and fully customizable UI is an auto-win in that category.
Also, If abysmal means still in the P2P model and releasing content, than I guess it's doing abysmal.

I hate to see negativity like this.
This is a game FINALLY DOING SOMETHING DIFFERENT--the combat, the most important aspect of the game for the majority of players, and people want to hate it because a completely different type of gaming community didn't like it.
If Tera fails, we may well be spamming our tab key til 2020. If it succeeds reasonably, we might see companies doing something unbelievable--not alt tabbing to wow for a templateon how to build a game.

Its also a game trying to do only one thing different and settling for generic in every other facet of the game (graphics excluded).
When you look at a game like SWG, it was more than just its class system. It was its focus on the social aspects with the entertainer abilities. Its amazing, deep craft system. Its HAM system.
GW2 is trying (I havent played so i dont know if its suceeding) to have an improved combatsystem that synergizes with other classes, turning the questing model upside down, bringing personal story to your character, and bringing meaningful exploration back to the genre, getting rid of the trinity system, bringing a new mechanic into death....
All around innovation.
TERAs combat isnt even innovative, its just the first time its been in a p2p MMORPG.
I dont think people are hating TERA, its the fact that people are blowing it entirely out of proportion. And making it seem like this is some big change that everyone wanted. People havent been begging for tab targeting to go away, its the linear questing, gear treadmill model people are sick of. Guess what TERA seems to be?

I can play GW2 and sub to TERA at the same time dont worry. But If TERA keeps its PvP system like it is.. have guild vs guild combat etc.. I will play it. Its really fun not having to tab target shit... I like anime style MMOS also, like that you dont have to watch loading screens all the time (GW will have Loading screens) so If I play TERA I will get the things that GW2 cant give me and vice versa..

Im keeping my fingers corssed that both GW2 and TERA will do really well in the West, this will open up the market. And finaly we might see more innovation in future games. Maybe that's MMORPG's elitist game reviewers but the general public wants a gear treadmill.
Without anything to do at end-game or anything to strive for, which may be the case with GW2 having no endgame raiding and gear having no purpose at end game people will just leave, as shocking as it is the PvE community is much bigger than the PvP one. Nevermind GW2 having no open world PvP, which is a big chunk of the PvP community.

Ironic isn't it? Everyone knows it but SWG, XI, EQ, etc, are all old games and the most beloved. Perhaps it's because we were new(er) to MMOs or maybe it really is a reduction in quality (I think that's mostly the case.).
Before I continue, I do have to point out by different, I mean "deviation from the standard" because everyone seems to do it just like WoW did it.
TERA hasn't changed "only one thing", they've changed a few, some for better or for worse (Combat, Politics, Interaction with the UI in general, their enchanting system). And maybe we know different groups but the tab1234 snoozefest is a major complaint that I see about modern MMOs. RIFT's gameplay, for instance, felt identical to WoW.
I'd agree people are overzealously defending TERA, but others have been begging begging for different, and when different comes along, it gets lampooned in the areas that are the same. "Sure, this car flies, but you still sit inside it like practically every other car. Boring."

And Devleopers need to be tought a lesson to stop this copy Cat CRAP...
Rift is a WoW clone with 'dynamic events' and interchangeable class skills
SWToR is a WoW clone with VO and story and companions
How is TERA not a WoW clone with no tab targeting? What makes the game so different?
I just fail to see how TERA isnt copy cat crap too...Yeah, combat is different, but its not THAT different. Its hypocritical to hate games because they are copy cats and praise TERA, it just so happens you like the spin TERA put on the formula more than the spin Rift put on the formula. But its still the same basic game.

Sorry but that is your opinion. A lot of people also spend considerable amount of time in activities like crafting... for some combat is just means to an end.

By the time someone gets to max level I wonder who would have actually spent more time crafting than using combat.
Edit: And at max level who is going to spend more time crafting than doing PvE and PvP, nevermind this, I'm talking to teakbois not you.

Only because you agree with the overall view of the person making it..
I can say its like one is a car with manual transmission and the other is one with automatic transmission. Some people like the extra control of the manual transmission, but its only one part of the driving process and the overall experience isnt that different once you use one or the other for a short length of time.

Crafting in TERA looks to be alot more complicated. And going by the Devs that make this game, they were part of the lineage2 dev team. Crafting will not be something you just do as a side thing in this game. I just had a little time looking at it druing this past weekend but for the next CBT. I will delve more deeply into it. But my guild mates who tried it said it was alot more complicated then they were used to. So dont brush off TERAS crafting. Plust you can mod your gear, dye your gear.. Buy little helpers who can stand In a square selling stuff for you. The market and the crafting isent something that was an afterthought in this game. No korean game in History has released without a good crafting mechanic..
For example it looks like crafting will play a huge roll at max level...
He's defending GW2, how innovative is GW2's crafting?
I never once defended gw2. Learn to actually follow logic and read posts before posting again.
I used it as an example of a game that has innovation in a wide scope.
Pardon my choice of terminology, by defending I meant you're using GW2 as a staple for innovation.
Regardless he was saying people care about crafting when I was defending TERAs change in combat as being a very important feature so I stated that to basically say "were not talking about crafting here" because neither game shows huge innovation in terms of crafting.

You only disagree with it because you don't agree with the overall view of the person making it.
You always state that the only thing TERA changes is the combat. Well for me it changes a few things from my typical Rift, SW:TOR and WoW experience.
First off TERA has no factions, instantly much different than Rift, SW:TOR or WoW.
It adds in the combat(the most important aspect of the game imo), adds in certain sandbox elements with the control of territories through guilds and allowing them to make changes and lastly gives a reason for guilds to form and adds a competitive element between them, especially with Guild vs Guild battles.
This also may be more personal, but it strays away from the typical western looking graphics you see with WoW, SW:TOR, GW2 and adds a nice blend of Western and Eastern.
Super smooth powerless attacks like in WoW, Rift, SW:TOR and GW2 are not seen in TERA, the combat is beefy and it feels like you are damaging things when you hit them.
I guess innovation really depends on which features the people looking for innovation are looking for innovation in. GW2s combat and animations are the biggest turn off for me, the moves lack power like the norm, the effects look very similar to Rift/WoWs and the combat overall I expect to be quite similar.

He's defending GW2, how innovative is GW2's crafting?
